Grrr Like an eejit I am. I bought two 80a esc for my Ju88, all well and good. Ive just come to wire them in and find...no BEC so no servo lead so no throttle control!! I have bought the wrong type, but I dont think I have ever seen ESCs with nor control wire before. What are these for and can I use them? I think the answer to that is "no" but worth asking before I buy new ones WITH a BEC!!

I like the cowls. I have got some foam card and have started work. Ive made the fromts of the cowls from grey foam, intend to add false fronts and cover the outsides with brown paper. Getting there...

Brilliant. Hadnt considered foam board. Thanks. On the real thing the front cowls do look like sleeves pushed on (probably were, essentially)...excellent tip. Thanks.

Motors on. Now the cowl build. More head scratching. Thinkong foam round the motors, 1/32nd skins and maybe foam nacells. Wing is fully skinned. It's coming along!

Not sure itsvreally operational but probably more the now ubiquitous risk aversion. The dear RAF dont even fly their own planes for fear of accident!

I deed SLEC WERE sun lane engineering co., which is what got me thinking. I too had a Fleet system, their posh one but even that was outclassed even when i bought it. The idea of reciprocal marketing hadnt occurred to me so maybe thats what was going on. Makes sense Ta

It does rather beg questions of safety doesnt it, but i suppose five times the density doesnt necessarily mean five time the energy on the bench, just a battery a 5th the size and the same energy. Presumably that would enable them to be better protected and arguably safer. Im never too nervous about my phone or ipad but i keep and charge my lipos outside. Maybe that will change.

One for the older members... Im reading a copy of RM from 1967 and theres an advert from Sun Lane Cycles advertising for sale the then new Fleet System of r/c. Is this THE Sun Lane and did Fleet originate at what became SLEC and then part company or is it all coincidence???

Its the wild birds on Dartmoor that get my goat. They nest willy nilly amd trip.me.up, they screach and caw which scares me, they fly up flapping their feathery wings without warning or heed and frankly its a disgrace. The birds on Dartmoor should be gassed. And the grass and heather...dont get me started on the grass and Heather. A health and safety nightmare. See my cheek bulge? Thats my tongue that is.

Cheers Andy. This is the Ju88 im restoring so theres a.lot of rework and undoing of bad ideas going on. I wont criticise the build because its over twenty years old and a chap learns a lot in 20 years....but he has left me a few challenges. One of which is the glued but undrilled 1/2inch wing bolt plate!!! D

ThNks guys i was being dim. I'll just save these bolts and either buy new or do as suggested and use steel. You know how it is...you want to save tuppence and use old bolts so you spend twenty quid an d three weeks working out how. Too much balsa cement in my youth i think. D

I want to tap a plywood block for wing bolts and assumed (ha ha) its was an M5 bolt. It IS a 5mm bolt of course but M standard it aint... anyone know what these threads are?

Im pondering the covering now. Poly C and nylon gives a light tough finish, but so does PVA and brown paper. I dont know which is lighter though I suspect nylon is stronger overall.

The retracts are coming on. Slow progress but getting there. I can turn my attention to the control surfaces now and then finally sheet the surface of the wing and try to get it true. Having got the retracts working how the heck the nacells will work out is anyones guess!

Despite it's modern usage, it really is "airbrake CUM spoiler"!, But the the idea of low prrssure is intriguing. A long long time ago a friend of mine who was a sign writer was explaining it's the low press that pulls signs off the walls. The wind blows over them, they bow and Bernouil (sp?) takes over! Equally, the same friend told me that if you place a brick on the top surface of the wing of a Cessna 150 it's enough to stop it blowing away in a gale. I know thats wrong but the signs I believe. Odd chap my friend, good bloke tho.

Just read a recent LMA news and the editorial said something like "following last months LMA news edtorial several members have written in saying they wish the LMA to continue". Sound awfully ominous to me...but I just wonder if anyone knows the details? Im not THAT interested, more curtain twitching really, but it seems a shame if the LMA were to go. I dont suppose it will. D

Thanks both. Youve really confirmed that im not alone in my ponderings about over engineering. I think ill glue a plate on and bolt to that, then if it rips out its only the ply plate. Its how I'd attach a fixed leg at the end of the day. Thanks again D
