    Stand or sit

I usually stand but that makes my back ache sometimes. I made a workstand thing that goes in my bench vice to allow small items to be worked on with a straight back. Got the idea from a utube video of a high end watchmaker factory in Switzerland. It doubles as a fretsaw bench and a flat cutting board. The black cutting board is a discarded chopping board from SWMBO. It works very well for me and also has the advantage of moving small items nearer my aged eyes. Maxg

  4. Posted by Chris Walby on 21/04/2020 15:19:22: Best use MPX or similar, don't forget you can always use a male and female on each wing with a couple of coloured heat shrink bands to denote port/starboard. Where I have done this I had a male Mpx on one panel and a female Mpx on the other panel. In this way you cannot connect the wrong wing to the Rx harness if you see what I mean. Maxg
  5. Have you tried **LINK** or **LINK** . Alternatively 4Max do multi way connectors now. Alternatively what about 9 pin D sockets. Maxg
  6. With respect to the tailplane structure, I think that it is a method that was popular in the 80s. The Airtronics Aquila and similar designs in that range of gliders used that style of taiplane. I built one like that for an Aquila last year. Much lighter than sheet and also a lot less expensive balsa used which could have been an issue in those times. Maxg
  7. My very old Ripmax one is the same with 2 long bolts. Have had it to bits in the past to replace the power cable. Back together again without any particular difficulty, just a bit of fiddling. works ok.
  8. If I wire up an ESC which has an SBEC in it and disable the SBEC by removing the red wire at the RX are there any issues if I use a 2S Lipo as the RX battery? The higher voltage of the 2S Lipo will not harm the ESC under these conditions will it? The model has HV servos and the RX is Hv capable. TIA Maxg
  9. I have a tube of wallpaper overlap adhesive left over from some decorating. It looks like very liquid PVA white glue. Is it useable instead of Balsaloc or other similar covering adhesives. Maxg
  10. What about an Edgar Perceval EP9 as something a bit different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6a9g6LOj5c. Maxg

    Sample Pots

I use the pots from the microwave spong puddings. The best ones are those with a smooth domed bottom as they are easy to wipe out. The puddings are good as well!!!! On a related topic of stirrers some places often have small plastic straws a couple of mms id and about 120mm or so long. Great for locating and protecting 2.4 aerials in the correct orientation. 12. 3 things occur to me with your set up. 1) Ideally the servo arm length should be the same as your rudder horn size. In your case 60mm. 2) If you are still using 35Mhz it pays to make sure the two cables are not touching as that can cause glitching. Not sure about 2.4 but to make sure anyway I always use nylon covered fishing trace. Because I have several varieties of trace as long as one is nylon covered all is ok. 3) Have you too much tension in your cables? HTH Maxg
  13. Mine arrived this morning complete with Moon Dancer plan. Excellent. Maxg
  14. Thank you all for your thoughts and help. I have decided to go with a Laser 70 and ordered it after a very helpful chat with Jon. Thank you for that. Bought some HV servos and an electronic switch as well. Getting back into things after a couple of years out moving house and doing the new one up. Got the moto back!!!! Maxg
  15. Posted by Jon - Laser Engines on 04/02/2020 21:13:55: I agree with caveman. Many models of this type are brutally over powered and you can often chop the engine recommendation in half. Many moons ago i had a goldberg cub which is about 2 inches smaller than the husky. It flew just fine using an ancient OS48 surpass. If you have a look around on the forum you will find a thread about the Hangar 9 valiant where this same discussion was had. Ultimately, it comes down to how you want to fly the model. Do you want to fly it using its wings, or fly it using its propeller? Personally i would not fit anything larger than a 70 4 stroke and even then i would use a large diameter/fine pitch prop to give me lots of thrust but not alot of speed. So Jon. Are you suggesting that my Laser 80 may be the best fit for the model of the engines I have? Or would even that be over the top? My intent would be to fly it on a large fine pitch prop as I have no interest in flying it as a pylon racer. In the past I always enjoyed flying my Wot 4 on a 4" pitch prop. I found when people started to suggest bigger diameter 7" pitch props on engines for noise reasons that the damn things would not land as they were still too fast even at idle. This situation is one I wanted to avoid so I don't have to land dead stick every time. This is all in line with what Dennis is saying above. As a sudden out of the blue thought I may be able to lay hands on an OS 56 Alpha. Would that fit the bill do you think Jon? Thank you everybody for your thoughts. Maxg Will think further.
  16. Caveman. Thank you for that. That confirms what I thought when I was thinking about buying the model. I couldn't find anything specific on the Husky but assumed Cubs would be fairly similar and having the two engines mentioned thought they should be OK. Your post confirms this. I also have a Laser 80 that is in another model that I wondered about using. Your post information suggests that may also be suitable. Think I will go with the 91 FS as I can always use the throttle. If this proves to powerful I will need to think again. But at least I can move on in confidence after your info. Thank you again. Maxg
  17. Just received a long desired Christen Husky. The Seagull ARTF. Had looked at the descriptions etc online and previously downloaded the building instructions and they stated 61 two stroke or 91 four stroke. When I got the box it said 91 two stroke or 120 four stroke. It is 203cm span and 4 Kgs. I had intended either an Irvine 61 2stroke or a new ASP 91 4stroke. Has anyone any experience with the model and thoughts about which engine to use? I got it from Airtek Models and delivered by Parcelforce. The Airtek service was good with clear indications of delivery time, very pleased with them. The Parcelforce delivery was similarly quick and with no damage at all to the packaging. Well done to both. Maxg
  18. Is there a laser cut kit for this? I am just feeling a bit idle and also I do like the fit of the laser cut stuff compared to what I usually produce. TIA Maxg

  20. I fly indoor in a small sports hall, just a bit bigger than one basketball court. We fly vapours etc. But there are a couple of us that have visited Bangood and have the small foam fixed wing models. I have a Rare Bear and a couple of us fly the Zero. Also the small eflite spacewalker a nd the Ares WW! model fly OK. We also have small helis. The WLToys V911 is popular and flys very well, also from Bangood. I am struggling with a TRex 150X which I am finding a bit of a handful. The Blade 120 heli also works well in the space. All the above cope well with the walls which I swear move towards my models but most time the models cope with and survive the encounter. A couple of guys cope with the larger EPP 2s models although what you can do is a bit limited. Give it a go, we all enjoy it. An unexpected bonus is that flying the little helis has improved my fixed wing flying because I now use the rudder!!! Maxg

Erfolg Pleased that the information worked for you. Cheers Maxg

    Help needed

Have just taken the one I have to bits to look at it. If you look at the plug from the back Red goes to top left and the black next to it i.e. top centre. I also note that the bottom centre and right are joined by a blob of solder. I guess that if you look at all the pins you will see which ones have had wires soldered to them which will help to confirm whether it is the same as mine. HTH Maxg
  23. I see that on the Nationals Website it says that the Silent Flight Nats are at Buckminster. It only says that there are likely 2 comps per day ongoing. It does not say which classes on which day so I am not sure which day I might wish to go. Can anyone (Andy Symons?) tell me what is on what day. Many Thanks Maxg
  24. Still have my PL6D and also some Rxs plus a few 35MHz rxs that I used until recently when I changed my Multiplex to 2.4.
