  1. A friend I fly with has over 125 models. Its an amazing collection!
  2. I just bought a brand new APCe 12x6 today at my LHS. It seemed perfectly ok and up to the usual excellent quality from APC. The center core did seem a little thincker but only by about 1mm so i didnt mind.
  3. I used to use just Thumbs but the 3D stuff needed a bit more control so i switched to Finger and Thumb! It feels so much nicer in my opinion. Any one who uses the Finger and Thumb method should try the thumb method for one flight as it feels so weird!
  4. Hey its not a bad magazine i dont think. I will admit that it has some bad reviews and features but occasionally it may have a good part. However i do feel that RCM&E has consistiently been producing enthrawling and insightful articals ever since i have been buying it and thats why i always tend to buy that magazine.
  5. Yeah Futaba have (in my mind) lost it completely. It was stupid to pay for such over charged receivers and the FHSS vs FASST and thats why i dislike futaba now.   I did the right thing and bought a DX8 and havent regretted any of it!! @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  6. YUK!!!! I love the look of the DX8 but they just went the wrong way with this one!!@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  7. Hi there,   Great work, this spitfire is looking great.   One word of advice: you seem to be using a propeller designed for an internal combustion engine. I would replace that for an APCe prop designed for electrics, its lighter and better balanced. Trying to use the IC prop is just going to wear the motor out slightly faster.   Thanks Will @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  8. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css); well TXs are not too hard to fathom overall, I would say that there are three big brands that i would consider they are:   Futaba - Very good quality and excellent TX - RX link, i think you would struggle to find a fault with a futaba TX or RX however the receivers are very expensive and quite large. I used to use Futaba   Spektrum - They produce excellent radios at a very good price and the receivers are also very nicely priced, generally the radio links are fault free although some are not so lucky and have lost models due to a dodgy radio link. Spekrum produce cheap beginner stuff right up to the DX8 which is the most complex model (I use a DX8 and absolutely love it!)   JR - Jr begin where Spektrum leave, JR produce radios that are more advanced then the Spektrum DX8 but they use the same receivers (i think!!!!)   For you I would probably get one of these:   http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=35082    Edited By Will F on 09/01/2012 18:02:56
  9. Ahh well the little 42" spitfire is identical to the 63" spitfire as the bigger one was just a scaled up version. I didnt think that the 42" had retracts shown on the plan but it may be worth adding them as they are a nice touch. Yes the servoless retracts from Hobbyking are very good as you dont need to link up servos its just plug and retract!   Try and keep it light as the construction method can yield a heavy model. I would cut all the parts my self as that way you can use very light wood. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  10. Hello David,   I have built the 63" Mk9 spitfire and it is really nice to build and equally nice to fly. In fact i have just got back from flying it this morning. I built mine electric which i think is worth it. I didnt post any build photos im afraid but there i can help with what ever you need.   Below are some useful links to other builds,   http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=55710   http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=33864   http://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=9948   Hope this is of help to you!   Regards, Will
  11. Why does this always clash with Wings n' Wheels? @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  12. Look at the Brian Taylor range of kits here:   http://shop.traplet.com/browse.aspx?c=53   There is a 61" F model and a 68" E model.   I am building the E model and its not too challenging, also it is a quick build. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  13. The tail rotor on a Trex 450 makes 4 rotations for every 1 rotation of the main head so just times the head RPM by 4 @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  14. yeah they have a bigger premises this year. I hope its a sign that they are expanding!@import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  15. B&Q sell some insulation:   One kind is pink/orange and is exactly like blue foam but easier to sand and is lighter   The second one that is useful to us modelers is called Jablite and is a very light EPS foam. While it is not that strong it works well for hot wire cut wing cores and scale details that ave to be kept light. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  16. Hi,   I would highly recommend getting all your wood from The Balsa Cabin located in Maldon in Essex. They mainly do mail order but you can visit them to buy wood which is what i do. They wrap their packages very well and have never had a costumer complain about broken wood (something i found was a problem with SLEC!!!!!)   They have an amazing selection of wood ranging from really light stuff to the more dense wood and if you actually go there to buy your wood then they hand you the whole wood stock so you can select your own wood so you get it right. That is brilliant in my opinion! They also have a huge range of other stuff like spinners, model kits, foam wing cores, etc. And they can Laser cut your kits (I think)   They are well worth it and I wouldn't recommend going anywhere else. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css);
  17. was that a custom AXi motor in the Extra?
  18. he was probally thinking about snap rolling but didnt want to show off too much
  19. I for one am excited about the new parkzone spit. It is very scale for an RTF sort of plane and is the only prebuilt spitfire i would ever own. I cannot wait to see one, however it has been shifted down my list of "models I must have" in favour of some 3D capable aircraft. Edited By David Ashby - RCME Admin on 05/11/2011 19:40:10
