  1. Andrew dont use CA on foam it wil melt the foam, unless it is labelled foam friendly. I prefer to use slow setting epoxy especially for structural parts such as wings, tailplanes, and especially any centre section carbon stiffening tubes Dave Edited By sticky fingers on 07/04/2013 20:51:14
  2. I,m fortunate I have 2 spare bedrooms of which 1 is a workshop, the other is where all my models timber , kitsand all and sundry go, all centrally heated .No probs with damp or cold. Dave Edited By sticky fingers on 18/01/2013 10:14:04
  3. Much like BEB, I hate commercial flying and all the associated bullshine, all of it, however I have been fortunate to have done a lot of flying in militaryaircraft at least I had a bang seat under my bum or access to a parachute just in case, and then there is the crash axe.my top flying experience was in a microlight, absolutely brilliant, totally exposed to the elements and a brilliant view. 4. Ian, The CAC Winjeel was the ab initio trainer for the RAAF back in the seventies, based at Point Cook , Victoria, built like the proverbial brick outhouse, and similar in style to the british Percival Provost. It was replaced by the CT4 which was a variant of the Aussie Victa Airtourer design, sold to the Kiwis and then bought back as the CT4 ,very astute the Kiwis ( New Zealanders) Dave
  5. Kiwi g, why not email Brian Winch( WOO) pound to a pinch of parrot poo he would have some good info. dave
  6. Ace, just a quick few comments,or questions , if this company doesn,t use polyester resins, or epoxy resin ,what do they use? Facts: Polyester resin is perfectly ok for GRP products, Epoxy resin is perfectly ok for GRP products Epoxy resin is excellent for CFRP products Polyester Resin is not a good resin to use with Carbon cloth If a mixture of fibres e.g.cabon fibre and glass fibre are used in a laminate then epoxy must be used to ensure a good bond , choice of fibre orientation must also be taken into account,to ensure that stress points are suitably reinforced in the correct fibre orientation. The strength in carbon is along the warp in undirectional materialat at 0 degrees, and in a woven cloth at 0 and 90 degrees Epoxy wil bond polyester GRP products but, polyester will not bond to CFRP well. This only a small portion of info with regard to composites. Without wanting to be nasty ,I take exception to mis information being published on this forum with regard to any subject but particularly this, as I make my living having to know this subject Dave
  7. could have been polyester you used , deadly on polystyrene foam. Dave
  8. WD DO NOT USE CA on white foam unless as stated earlier, epoxy will always be the best option if there is any doubt .A little tip is to warm up slow setting epoxy on a radiator to temporarily thin it, this l wil aid flow quite well into the crack. PVA relies on evaporation of the solvent and can be a bit unreliable when sticking foams Dave
  9. hi there widget , i,m sure a call to PAW would quickly establish availability and suitability for your engine . regards, Dave
  10. Greybeard, You hit the nail right on the head when you mention,' now, not tommorrow' I deal with my LMS regularly ( Formby Models)Chris, Steve and Phil give a great service IMHO and if they haven.t got what I want, its ordered and with me in a short time, I am a patient person though and plan my activities well, could be a lesson for the now generation, forward plan, patience and not last minute.com. Dave
  11. Hi Paul I am by no means an expert on this electric stuff but I,m learning myself.I am not familiar with that type of charger but it sounds to me that those sockets are for balance charging LiPo cells. What you have there is a fairly standard Nimh battery pack which normally comes with a radio set ,and you should have the standard charger depending on which set you have. You may have some adaptors with your Imax to accomodate charging of the 4.8 Nimh, what you are looking for is a flat 3 pin plug which is plugged into the output socket of your charger .With regard to charging amperage, I was always taught that 10% of the battery rating ,in your case 2100 Mah, which equates to 210 Mah is always a safe charge rate.Sorry can't help you more would need to see your set up . Have a good read of the instruction sheets and rather than do any damage to your gear visit your local model shop for advice ,or pop down to your nearest club. 12. Indeed a sad loss, please convey my condolences to his family my prayers are with them at this tragic time. Dave
  13. Mike ,welcome to the site, and to model aeroplaning. I assume that you are completing the closed loop for the rudder. Assuming you can get the ferrules off the wire ok, you can use ferrules used for making up traces for pike fishing rigs but if I may be so bold as to advise you to get a club member to guide through your attempts at the job.Dont get disheartened by small setbacks, its part of the game. Dave
  14. It was a great pleasure to meet up with other forumites, particularly Tim Hooper ,Danny Fenton and BEB,I can now put a face to a name which is important to me,computers are a great tool but IMHO you cant beat face to face coms.A great day for my good mate and myself, a brilliant facility run by a friendly crew. Sad to say I managed to choose a day which was unsuitable to fly the super 60,unfortunately unable to do the whole weekend, next year I,ll get something together which will be suitable for our summer conditions such as the Tornado or Chevron. Most enjoyable day, thanks to all involved, might well see you at Old Warden Tim, I,ve sown the seeds. Dave

  17. Nigel, are you referring to the fun fighters, if so i have built three of them, Spitfire, ME 109 and the Hurricane all flew very well in fact they went like stink, althougth I did tend to overpower the spit and me109 with a merco 29, back in the early eighties,I built the hurricane about 6 years ago with an os 25la a20 might calm it down a bit, definately not for beginners Dave
  18. Richard, your query as to cleaning dirty engines , I find that 50/50 meths and ammonia with a few drops of washing up liquid an excellent cleaning solution. It really gets the gunk off and a swill through with hot water, followed by a good dose of after run or gun oil. An old toothbrush gets into those hard to get at places, hope this is helpful Dave
  19. Good morning Gents, I am a little concerned about John Walton at Motorvation in Leicester.I have tried to contact him via the only method he employs, to chase up an order I placed with him, and all I,m getting is the voicemail. On trying again this morning I got a message to say that his voicemail box is full.I have left messages in the previous attempts to contact him but no joy at all ,no replies, Has anyone else out there had or having any difficulties? In a conversation I had with him prior to me placing my order he informed me he had been found collapsed in his workshop and was out of commission in hospital for ten days. My concerns are twofold, is he in a healthy state ( seemed to be a very genuine chap) or is he a fly by night . Does anyone have any information. Help!! Thanks Dave. 20. Hello Djay, It sounds, like you have a bad batch of paint there, personally, I woudnt go down the poy C route as you have two entirely different products, one air cures and the other cures by chemical action. Try not to go down the route of messing about and ruin all your hard work, when an email to the Aerokote manufacturers could quickly come up with an acceptable solution. I might add that in a lot of instances ,two part products can have a definitive shelf life, and what you describe seems to be classic signs e.g stickiness and not curing Regards Dave Edited By sticky fingers on 07/03/2012 10:04:18
