  1. Wonder who remembers all those years ago when you could build your own TX and then fly!! Does cheap mean naff? Is big brand the only 'safe' route.....hmm ask spectrum!! (and yes personal experience and NOT brand bashing) I also wonder how many blame the equipment after having dumb thumbs or battery charging forgetfullness.... The Devo is a good radio and so is the TH9X, and they are cheap. And if the Far East stuff is naff/not well made, ermm why does HK and others do so well selling those naff/lousy made aircraft that are subsequently controlled by top brands only for that cheap made aircraft to crash, is that dumb thumbs/radio problems/lousy build quality?   Ernie....just a thought, but if you bought top range stuff etc, does that preclude you from having dumb thumbs and losing control of the lethal missile? Just a thought.   Mark Edited By Mark R on 16/12/2012 19:59:12
  2. Alas folks, the 'good' guys at Ropmix have discontinued the Irvine 53 as it was in direct competition with their OS engine. Really hope its as good if not better, coz i have 5 Irvine 53s and i cannot fault them in anyway. Ian...i do have engine case plus other bits for an Irvine 53, but its the mark 2 varient, i dint find out til i bought them. Any use? Cheers Mark
  3. Really like the way he has copied description from ahem 'another source' wink wink......who said Hobbyking!!!
  4. Hi David and FF, emailed Myhobby and they are sending the triangualr balsa and new CNC ply parts, which is good. Dont let it put u off FF, i am looking forward to the very slow build of mine, between work and family. The price aint too bad so it is worth going for FF.
  5. Well this is quality control on the wing brace.......hmmm has China been asked to make these parts? Probably not as their quality control is better.....
  6. I have to agree with CJ....as i think has been said in other threads on the pro's n con's of ARTF RTF etc versus the plan n bashing side, it all boils down to time. I have started the Tucano build and i know its going to take me months to complete as i really do not have the time between working 16 hour shifts and my family. ARTFs have given me a chance to get something built and in the air quicker than balsa bashing. I wouldnt of restarted the hobby if they werent available. Its the same with the choices of elec or IC, in the end its each to their own and i dont see one being more of a 'modeller' than the other.
  7. Well got my plan on Friday, so started 'bashing' today. Bit miffed that the balsa pack doesnt have 12mm triangular balsa and as for the 2 joiners for the wings, absolutely useless, who ever cut them really needs to stop drinking, a coiled up length of hosepipe is straighter than the ones they have 'cut'. Will post a pic later today if i can. However the fuz is going together ok, but wont be able to do anymore til just before xmas if lucky
  8. I remember using fishing weights when i was a kid. First glider i built needed ballast and the instructions actually said to use fishing weights. That was some 30 odd years ago....and you know what i never remembered it till you mentioned it BeB...its an excellent weigh (hehehe) to ballast a model and yep its cheap! PS thanks for making me feel old BeB lol
  9. Hi Ren, I am also building the Tucano, but wont be joining in the mass build due work commitments. I got the canopy and 3 days later the CNC pack etc, but was dismayed not to have the plan with it, called MyHobby and the nice lass said it is being sent separately. So looks like another week or so before I can start. Tad frustrated, surely they can get all the bits to arrive within a day or so of each other and not weeks. Ho humm
  10. Hi Gavin, just looking at the 'kits' in Traplet, how good is the wood/cnc cutting etc. Some of the prices seem very cheap, reckon they are good value? And a defo to build blog, love A10's Mark
  11. Ahh he was only going to 'high speed taxy' it...well according to the announcer, thats how i describe all my take offs, high speed taxy followed by sheer panic.
  12. Yeh it appears that Irvine have been bought out by ermm cant remember who it was...but you cant buy new 46/53's anymore.....i am stocking up 53s...got 5 now plus spare parts.....Just Engines still do spares which is good news.
  13. Phew...alan yer scared me starting the reply with Mark....thought me mum had found out i had been a bad boy lol
  14. All manufacturers are in the market to make money.....how long before DSMX2 S-FHSS et al are all 'obsolete'? I know quite a few people who fly DSM/FAAST/FrSky with no problems...have good customer service with spares available.... Feel sometimes people 'just have to have the newest stuff' because its new and look what i can afford, 'oh you still using obsolete brand x,y and z huh'.......... they said 35mhz is obsolete...hmmm lots and lots still using it....i would say at least a quarter of my club is still using it.. In the end its all about what you can afford.... i can afford £££s on a new system...but i wont buy one coz the system i am using has been rock solid and totally reliable....its a so called 'fly-by-night' cheap system.....hmmm no brown outs/system failures/glitches etc....unfortunately not like a few in the club who have 'top of range' stuff.. Unfortunately all this means in the end is that 'newbies' are in a world of confusion....everyone has their opinion on what is good bad or ugly...I know i was when i switched to 2.4ghz....the only thing i did was research and i did a lot before i went with my system....tried the 'top of range' stuff....failed totally in my opinion....the cheap 'fly-by-night' system works and works well....improvements have been made BUT not to the determent of the system i am using...even tho they have upgraded the system it is FULLY compatible with what i am using. Ask Apple or Harley Davidson how they are so succesful.....sometimes people just buy into the name.
  15. Wow not sure you got a big enough brush to make such wide sweeping statements...i trust these are all from personal experience?
  16. Couple of clubs i have been a member of did not require you to have an A cert....only show competency and above all being safe either in the air or on the ground. I have an A cert, needed it for club in reading as we flew in a public area.
  17. Using FrSky 2.4ghz in the FF9....BUT it was used as 35mhz when i first got it...not comparing 2.4ghz system per se...more comparing the radio units as a working device. Edited By Mark R on 21/08/2012 23:46:30
  18. Think you will find it is a fair comparison. Futaba radios and speccy ones have been comapred on here many a time and you said that newer radios are better than older ones? So therefore i expected a DX7 to be better than a FF9...nope it wasnt...
  19. LOL they must be stupid as they have pic of the FAKE S3003...durr....reported here...alas FF Ebay very very rarely do anything..reported dozens in the space of 2 days and they still appear....Ebay dont seem to care aslong as they get a cut of the money.
  20. Had my FF9 for 3 years now...cost me £110....had a Spekky DX7 for 4 months (brand new!!) no end of problems..sent back several times and had 'cant find anything wrong but replaced this this and this' scenario...so new isnt always better..Audi or no Audi
  21. Agree totally Alan...shame others think as its 'old'....its obviously not as goood or have the gimmicks of the new ones.....hmmmm
  22. Erm i have a FF9 or 9CP etc etc as its known.....its been changed to FrSky 2.4 and its certainly not like 06 reg or 02 reg car!! Its 2nd hand does everything for planks, helis and gliders....new is good if you got the cash....nothing wrong with 2nd hand at all....
  23. Can second and third DBs suggestion......hassle free for 2 years...unlike some systems! Not gonna open a can of worms!!!
