  1. Has anyone out there built/flown a Hangar 9 Valiant 10cc? If yes what power plant have you used? Being an almost dedicated IC flyer I am actually considering what to power mine with. Should I go IC or electric?? If glow I am thinking OS95V or Laser 80. Would the 95 be overpowering. If electric an E Flight Power 46 is suggested with 4S. Has anyone tried a similar set up. Thanks in advance Peter
  2. Just to add my 2p worth. I have been running Windows 7 since 2011 or so on an Acer laptop. Had no issues so avoided the free Window 10 upgrade from Microsoft. Now I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as a free lunch. However security is important to me, so on hearing about the demise of W7 I had some soul searching to do. Upgrade or go for a new set up. My old laptop was running ok so an upgrade seemed a simple way to go...….Finally bought a new HP laptop with SSD and an I5 processor but less storage than I had in my old laptop (which I never used fully anyway). Yes I have spent money. However I was having battery life issues with the old set up. BIG gain is speed. Switch on and hardly any wait at all. Boot up speed is great, and so much of an improvement. New laptop is lighter, but it remains to be seen if it lasts as long as the Acer. No Phaff and now I am using the laptop so much more, simply because it is quick. Not quite a fast as using my Phone but you can do a lot more on a laptop especially if you need to use Excell which I do. All the best Peter
  3. Just been reading this whole Blog with interest. Also have looked at the Hobbyplastic site as well. They actually quote a Saito 82 not a 62. I have a Hangar 9 50in Corsair and that had a Saito 82 which was ok but now fly's better on an OS70. Looking at the specs for the VQ Hurricane 60 I would personally put nothing less than a 91 4 stroke and think an OS95V or a Laser100 would be much the best choice of IC engines that are available to buy new today. Now way wouId a Saito 82 fly this model well. I have a H9 Thunderbolt 63in that has an OS 95V upfront and that is a good match. Richard's comments seem very informative and helpful. Sorry I cannot help on electrics but as you probably gathered I'm not into electric so far and all this makes me think twice especially for a warbird. Good Luck and best regards Peter
  4. Give Pyramid Models a ring. They could be able to help. https://www.pyramidmodels.com/ Cheers Peter

  9. Thanks David did not known that the thread was there.
  10. Hi all I was at the most enjoyable Fly-in this year on the Saturday. Graham Ashby was taking a great number of Photos some of which were 3 Chipmunks which included my own. My Mass Build Renaissance made it into the RCM&E report of the weekend and I would love to be able to have some of these for my collection plus some of my Chippy. Has anyone else got photos that they would like to share. Cheers Peter Three of my Mass Build Models (Ballerina 2016, Skywriter 2017 and Renaissance 2019)
  11. Have you tried ringing Solarfilm direct. I have been able to order a roll of Silver Solartex from them a couple of days ago.   Worth a phone call at least. Edited By Low pass Pete on 15/12/2019 05:26:10
  12. Hi all. Now the election is over we can all concentrate on MB 2020 I am finally finishing off a 58in Tiger Moth so another biplane would be a no for me. However I do like to fly a variety of types and the TN Hunter looks a contender for me. Not too expensive to put in the air and a ducted fan is something I have not tried before. Like the idea that electric set up is available via 4 Max. Bonus is that I have some suitable 3S batteries as well!. So for me. 1.TN Hunter or 2. DB Excellence Cheers Peter
  13. Best to get things decided asap in my view. How about a snap election in line with what is happening Thursday I have built Ballerina, Skywriter and Renaissance. All are great models and my Renaissance made it to Buckminster for the RCM and E Fly-in this year and also was in last months mag report. Well pleased. Looking to go electric for the first time however as 4 strokes are not to easy to get these days. Cheers Peter Edited By Low pass Pete on 11/12/2019 06:09:14
  14. Posted by Piers Bowlan on 31/10/2019 17:23:17: Funny enough Pete, I have just had my Excellence free plan copied and enlarged by 15% at my local copy shop, as I thought what a nice design it is for either a 30 4ST or maybe an electric conversion. (indecision!) I also think Peter Miller's forth-coming Moon Dancer 2 could be a good Mass Build choice as well, as we may have the plan for that as well before very long. (next month?) Edited By Piers Bowlan on 31/10/2019 17:26:04 Moon Dancer 2 looks a contender to me alongside Excellance Peter
  15. Hi all I am looking for a new C of G machine. Has anyone some good recommendations on these. Need on that is suitable for models up to 8 - 10 Kg as well a smaller ones. Thanks Peter

  17. Have just recieved my copy of RCM&E Nov 19 issue. There is a very nice free plan of an old David Boddington model. Excellence which was designed for a 20 four stroke. Looking at the plan it would take a small 2 stroke and electic conversion looks to be simple. I think this could be a good contender for a mass build. 18. Hi. Is there any restriction on using 35Mhz at the Fly-In? If no do I assume that peg on system would be in place. Thanks Peter
  19. Posted by Chris Walby on 07/09/2019 20:24:15: Pete, Looks really good and glad you have finished it off in time for next week. If it flies anything like mine and I am sure it will be as its better built you will be impressed. PS - at least your pilot isn't looking as ruff-alo as mine!
  20. Posted by Low pass Pete on 16/03/2019 09:26:13: I think he is 1/8. He came from DB Sport and Scale (unpainted) and I added a bit more lower body so he is taller than supplied. He is destined for a DB Sport and Scale 58in Tiger Moth (if I ever finish it) so I may well source another pilot for Renaissance. Cheers Peter The pilot decided he liked the plane and refused to move so I glued him in. For those with very sharp eyes you might be able to see a red triangle on his upper arm with a white XV on it. Apparently he used to be a member of 15(XV) Squadron (RAF). Mind you I don't recall seeing him when I was on the squadron back in the Buccaneer days at Laarbruch in Germany
  21. Thanks Piers. I really dragged my heals on this build, but got there in the end. I am pleased with the final look but some of my covering is not brilliant Details - - Engine OS62V 4 stroke. - Dubro tank with a double clunk which is helpful when defuelling - Wings and tail - Silver Solartex - Fus Blue Profilm which I had left over from my Ballerina 2016 Mass build - Flash on Fus is silver Solartrim - Diamonds on Wing and rudder stripes White Solartrim and blue Profilm - Lettering supplied by Inwoods Models (thanks Nick) - Weight no idea as not checked it but it has come out light. cheers Peter
  22. Finally completed her. I should be able to test fly before the Fly-In next weekend. Planning to be there on Saturday perhaps Sunday as well . But not staying over at present.
