  1. Hi BEB, In the photo of the Saturday group taken by David, I'm the one in the blue hat and blue polo shirt back row extreme right. Oh! not forgetting the moustache of course!! David did take anther one, this time with me kneeling on the front row, extreme left. Thanks to everyone for a great show. I didn't really mix too much because I'm quite shy, but I did spot a few guys that I recognised through a long history of reading the RCM&E magazine. John.
  2. Yeah, saw this model just a short while ago. Its just Awesome and looks fantastic in the air too!! All in all a great show at Greenfields. Well done to everyone who made it all possible
  3. Hi everyone, Well, got my shirt today so I'll be there on Saturday. I won't be flying as I'm still in training at my Club. Instead I'm greatly looking forward, very much, to meeting as many forumites as possible and to have a lot of fun!! Oh, I'll be the one with the moustache by the way!! See you all soon. John.
  4. Hi everyone, Well, I'm very nervous about charging Rx batteries. I'm never really convinced that they are fully charged. With Lipo's it's easy as you can get various battery 'checkers' that tell you the % of charge remaining etc etc. I've just bought a Fusion NX 83 charger thinking, from reading the info on it,that this would put my 'fears' to rest. Sadly, this is not the case. I've just connected it to one of my 6v Nimh batteries and although the charging light was showing Red at first, the light went out after about 45secs and then showed no light at all!! So, my question is - what's happening there? It certainly hasn't helped to restore my confidence in charging Rx batteries. What voltage is a fully charged 6v Rx battery and is that voltage 'proof' of a full charge? The Rx battery is a 6v 1200mAh NiMh John.
  5. Hi everyone, Well, Thank you for all your replies. I will certainly be going on one of the days and I will certainly be on the look-out for some of you guy's. So many of you have helped me over the years and it would be really great to meet some of you. John.
  6. Great products and they're British!! I would Love some. Fingers firmly crossed. John.
  7. Hi everyone, I've really heard so much about this great event that i would really like to attend, but just as a very enthusiastic spectator. I have not got my A at the moment but I just love all aspects of model flying, and also of course,, it would be just a great opportunity to meet some of the members of this great forum. Hoping this is possible. John.
  8. Hi everyone, Thank you all so much for your replies. I must apologise though for taking so long in acknowledging all your responses. I'm afraid I've been a bit "under the weather" just lately, but I seem to be getting better now. Yes,I thought Companies such as Staples and Prontaprint could offer an enlargement service, but you have also added some interesting comments regarding structure and method of transferring the files etc. The plan I was thinking of enlarging was actually the RCM&E free plan in the February issue 2011. This is the Blohm & Voss 215 by Glenn Block. This is pretty much an all Depron model so I thought scaling up by 25% would be fairly straightforward with regard to construction. Incidentally, has anyone,or know of anyone, who has successfully built and flown this model - enlarged or otherwise? Thank you all once again. John.
  9. Hi everyone, As I'm something of a dinosaur when it comes to knowing how to go about modern ways of 'doing things', I'm asking the question regarding how to enlarge a model plan by 25%. I'm guessing that there are Companies out there that can offer this service, but I'd like to know who can offer this type of service at a reasonable cost and who can be recommended from your past experiences. I look forward to hearing your suggestions. Many Thanks, John.
  10. Hi everyone, Just been reading through the January issue article/plan feature describing the build of the fun-fly model called the ELLIPSE. The bit that has me stumped though concerns the motor. In the article it says that its a home built "12 pole stator with 7 turns which operates at around the 750Kv mark." So, what I'd like to know is - what commercially available motor would actually suit this application at the higher end of the power range? John. Edited By David Ashby - RCME on 29/01/2014 08:52:44
  11. The Merriest of Merry Christmas's to everyone on this great, and well established, forum. Good Luck to you all. John.
  12. Hi Guy's, Many Thanks to you all for responding with some excellent suggestions. I have been flying the Fun Cub for a while now and initially I did stick the Velcro in with standard cyano. But this eventually 'let go'. I could tell that the self adhesive properties of the Velcro alone would be insufficient to withstand the constant removal of the 2200s. At the field I had some UHU POR in my box so I tried that and that too 'let go' after a couple of removals. After a bit of head scratching,I came to the conclusion that this constant coming away of the fuselage mounted Velcro might be due to the amount of Velcro being used.I say this, because at the moment I'm using a strip of Velcro which is the entire length of the lipo (2200) Another strip the same length is glued to the fuselage. Now this might just be too long and actually be exerting too much 'pull' on the Velcro. Therefore, I'm thinking of keeping the same length attached to the fuselage to allow a range of movement and larger capacity lipo's to be used, but on the lipo itself just have two small squares of say about an inch at each end. Thus on removal less pull will be exerted on the floor mounted strip of Velcro. I will also employ an implement such as a metal 6 inch rule to gently help prise the Velcro claws apart. This should certainly put less 'pull' on said Velcro. Am I correct in thinking that a couple of, say one inch squares, will be sufficient to support the 2200 lipo though through the occasional severe 'training' movement!!!!! I'm quite sure most of you will know what I mean by that.... !!! John. Edited By JohnnyB on 28/11/2013 15:53:06
  13. Hi Guy's, Well, here's my problem...... Everytime I remove my lipo from inside the fuselage of my Multiplex Fun Cub the battery pulls away the Velcro from the floor of the model. The model is made from elapor and although I've tried various foam friendly glues nothing has really worked. This must be a problem for many builders of the Multiplex Fun Cub and I'm wondering how best to solve this recurring problem for the best. Is there another way of securing the battery in place. Hoping someone can help. John.
  14. Thanks for sharing that piece of video Steven. First I've ever seen this Cucumber 2 model actually flying for real!!! Al's models at Wolverton actually had a built up model for free flight in his store window for several months at one time. Tis indeed a very strange model. John.
  15. Hi guy's, Whilst Nigel's Can-Doo is a great looking and easy to build model, has anyone ever seen or heard anything about the Cucumber 2 actually being built or even flown. Its certainly a very interesting looking model. John.
  16. I'm getting really excited about the development of these depron models. These latest models by Depron Daz393 and Electriflier are really pushing forward this relatively new modelling material and method of construction to new levels. Well done Guy's, really enjoying the thread. Any chance of any plans in the near future for us less talented modelling mortals?? John.
  17. Hi David, well, I love these free stuff giveaways so here I am trying my Luck again!! Good Luck everyone. John.
  18. Hi Guys, I'm just about to standardise all my electrical connections to the Deans type. But, before doing so,I was wondering if there is a standard protocol that is normally followed. By this I mean for instance, which plug normally goes on the battery - male/female?? Which plug normally goes on the motor - male / female?? Of course there may not be a recognised 'protocol',but before I fully commit to this soldering programme I would just like to gather some opinions. Looking forward to your comments and any suggestions you may like to make. John.
  19. Thanks CS. I'll see how I get on. Looking good so far though. John.
  20. Thanks guy's. Once again you've helped enormously. I must have been mistaken about having seen a full review article in one of the issues as this just doesn't seem to exist - surprisingly!! Regarding my comment - " I know there is one because I'm sure I've seen it on numerous other occasions." We'll, that'll just be an age thing I'm thinking!! Ummmmm! Now why did I come upstairs...?? John.
  21. Hi Guy's, Just a quickie really. I've just spent ages looking through ALL my copies of RCM&E, well back to 2007, trying to find the review of the Spektrum DX6i radio system. I know there is one because I'm sure I've seen it on numerous other occasions, but despite searching I've failed to find it. Therefore, I'm turning to you all to inform me in which issue this review was published. Unfortunatley I do not have any indexes to check through! Hoping you can help. John.

    Can it be done?

Thanks so much for all your considered replies. I really thought I might be hoping for a bit too much especially as I knew nothing about the theory of the subject! So, to solve the problem in an instant, I have ordered a Spektrum DX6i tranny. This will allow me to "buddy" with quite a few instructors in the Club,if need be. I really do think its essential to learn with the "buddy" system. Having used this system in the past I think it's the ONLY way to go, particularly when flying close to the ground,ie during take- off and landing for instance. Thanks again to all of you for taking the time to help me out. Very much appreciated. John.

    Can it be done?

Hi Guy's, This question came up this afternoon while discussing my future tuition at the Club. I have a Futaba FF9 tranny with a Spektrum plug- in module, converting the tranny to a Spektrum effectively. Now, my potential tutor has a Spektrum DX6i tranny and we were wondering if they could be used together as a buddy set-up. I didn't have my tranny at the field today but we are intending to try the system out on Wednesday afternoon. Does anyone know if this set-up will actually work? My tranny has the square buddy socket, and the Spektrum 6 has a round socket!! I'm hoping a conversion/adapter can be used if indeed the actual set-up will work. I've got my fingers very tightly crossed on this outcome. Hoping someone can help. John.
  24. I think it's quite amazing to think that back in the 1950'/60s when I was growing up , this kind of deep snow was considered to be just a normal winter. It's what we used to expect living out in the countryside on farms in Essex,Herts and Bucks. Indeed, it would last for weeks, not just a couple of days or so. It used to be a challenge to get to school and if "the heating wasn't working" we just wore our coats!! Of course a lot of things were different then. Living in old farm cottages, no central heating/ hot water on tap, draughty doors and windows, tin baths and yes, very basic outside toilets,in my experience, down the bottom of the garden!! Imagine having to use that during the night with only a torch to guide you through the snow. Oh, sitting there was just so cold too!! The winter of 1963 was a bit worse than normal though! Of course, climate change has changed a great deal regarding our weather patterns now. Generally speaking though I usually think that during our winters now, whenever it rains, back then it would be snowing because the temperatures would have been constantly lower. How things have changed, indeed!! John.
  25. Try [email protected]. He makes them. Thank you John for Toms Email address as shown above, but after getting in touch with him he has asked me to inform everyone that due to personal circumstances he no longer produces the throttle units for the Mills engines. He no longer has the time to commit to producing these items and does not want to be inundated with orders and end up disappointing anyone. I have managed to source not one but two Mills .75cc throttles and I would just like to express my sincere Thanks to you guys for your help and advice. Much appreciated. John.
