  1. that has to be the ugliest underpowered propjet i've ever seen...........you know every club has a member just like that guy.......LOLnasa
  2. now timbo i would say that you were self taught the guy who helped you clearly did not instruct you. to instruct by definition;   .to furnish with orders or directions; direct; order; command:  which from what you've said the guy took off and left you to your own devices so by definition he did not instruct as such. so i would in that case say you were self taught steve
  3. i'll tell you this the big R could take a leaf out of horizons book nasa
  4. hi peter   well your colleague to be honest could'nt be in better hands. i am gobsmacked by the way Horizon treat their customers it is truely amazing to find a company in this day and age that bend over backwards to accomodate you, they come highly recommended.    they are to be commended steve
  5. Cheers mate wasn't quite sure how i put a link up so copied and pasted. steve
  6. hi all       just a quick heads up there has been some chat about the DM9 module that fits the JR9XII that the case is loose in the transmitter for those of you that bought a module as part of a set either with the AR7000 or AR9000 please use the link below it is for a limited period so get cracking   link   regards  nasa Edited By David Ashby - RCME Administrator on 26/02/2010 18:43:18

  8.  hi all   FWIW Tim is right here guys the A is easy to get and is required by the host club before you can fly an a fly-in held at their field .as it stands the site is open to the public and the local coulcil require the A certificate as a minimum to fly solo there.     Peter Spurway as already put forward will put you in contact with an examiner local to you we cannot get any fairer than that all you need do is fly safely and answer a few questions and an A certificate you'll have. use the link below and that will take you to the site that tells you what you'll need to do to get an A certificate.  http://www.bmfa.org/achievement/index.html  as it stands i'm not aware of any club's that hold fly-ins that will let you fly solo at their site without an A certificate as a minimum. its not a case of being pedantic its a recognised national standard that show's you are competant with a model aircraft.......much the same as driving a car legally on the road really.nasa
  9. I don't suppose there's a chance of one down south somewhere David much as I'd love to go I'm at Weston park the weekend before and I don't think I'll be able to get another pass steve
  10. Posted by flytilbroke on 21/01/2010 17:18:52:   Posted by Matt Jones on 27/01/2010 10:37:58: Ali, thanks for taking the time to reply and your kind offer. I came in earlier this week to get some bits and you less than half of what I needed but of more concern is something I did get. I wanted some ball joints but you were out of stock. Instead I bought 5 packs of these. I've taken most of this week off to build and one of the first jobs was to set up some linkages using them. Firstly the 2mm rod screws, by hand, all the way in and bottoms out but you can still turn the rod so I have no confidence that it will stay connected with flight loads. Secondly the way it's set up you effectively bolt the ballrace to the horn and the plastic housing/body can simply slide off the race so again I fear they may seperate in flight. IMO they're not fit for purpose so will be bringing them back for a refund.   with all due respect matt you should be having this conversation with Ali's themselves first before making your concerns here. its not good forum or business etiquet to bring your complaint here best take it up with them at the shop.     incidentally ali (jnr)is out of the country at the moment so people looking for a reply here will be waiting a while for specific answers from him personallynasa Edited By nasa_steve on 27/01/2010 20:00:46
  11. Posted by gerald stansfield on 27/01/2010 11:28:10: Is It possible to run 2 HT leads from 1 ignition unit, I'm thinking of converting my Saito 90 twin to petrol, It's a flat twin, Single thro c/shaft, so the timing should be ok, Has anyone tried it? Gerry. id be very surprised if the both cylinders on a twin engine fire at the same time each side i would expect you to need a unit that will run a twin the spark timing would be wrong i'm sure, if you tried to run it on a cdi for a single cylinder engine      to add to the debate on glow verses petrol glow fuel is hygroscopic and thus hi water attraction being plant based fuel it does not have the mineral lubricating properties that petrol has therefore it goes without saying the oil content in glow fuel is much higher than in petrol based engines nasa

  13. hi guys      i would be inclined to be very careful the way these two connectors are in such close proximity to each other on the lower picture as as soon as they flash together there will be problems also if you intend installing them with a small hammer i would insulate the hammer head as not to cause a short when your tap them home these connectors will require great care when assembling to avoid shorting them out and the battery giving off the magic white smoke of lipo death, to me as a qualified sparks they look dodgy unless you know exactly what you are doing.  as it stands at the moment i'm using deans connectors up to 40 class electric and 6mm gold connectors on anything above that. i still have some packs with 4mm golds on but i'm phasing those out steve Edited By nasa_steve on 26/01/2010 19:24:44
  14. Posted by Andy Freeman on 06/01/2010 13:17:25: Posted by Romeo Whisky on 06/01/2010 11:13:41: In SW Scotland we've got about 3 inches of lying snow, but the main problem is ice with night-time temperatures down to -10°C and often still below freezing all day.  Strange how these conditions only become national news when they hit the south. I lived in west Sheffield (within the city boundary) for 25 years and got snowed in most years for varying lengths of time.   Two years running the snow was so heavy it brought the guttering down!  We lived on a bus route and for the first few years we were there the road (a steep hill) was ploughed and gritted and the bus route was kept open.  Then about eight years ago that was stopped and road quickly became impassible after snow.  Also worth remembering is that when the thaw eventually comes, the south will thaw quickly, while the north and high areas will still have lying snow for much longer - yet watch and see how quickly it will disappear from the news!  How true.....Our head office in in Guildford. First few flakes and everyone is at action stations and plans are pulled out of the woodwork. They care not when us up here are thigh deep and even 4wd is not a guarantee of getting up the hill.     But then if you live in Scotland do you not expect to get snow every year?? bit like someone moaning about aircraft noise who lives next to an airfield. or someone moving to Spain and remarking how hot it can be in the summer?LOL        we don't often see snow here in the south these days and the local councils you would have thought have never seen itnasa

  17. how about the new skyworld-rc fans they are showing high thrust output on them not sure how this will relate to in flight but worth a look steve.s
  18. Posted by Slopetrashuk on 22/12/2009 22:29:59:. Most of the 2.4ghz stuff I know of has a failsafe to do just that as well. perhaps the next big problem is just around the corner in our letigious society. Is nobody prepared to try to fix the issue on the model or are we all content to sit on our laurels and let 2.4ghz take the strain? I wonder how that would be viewed if pushed to intensive questioning. Sure 2.4ghz shouldn't be affected by 'noise' from our models, but it will be affected by something. Perhaps we just haven't found out what it is yet.   Andy Ellison hi andy       all very valid points but for those that are using 2.4ghz glitch free how would one know that you are masking a potential glitch???  are you suggesting that we setup a model on 35mhz to make sure that  there is no glitching and then move to 2.4 or are you saying extra care in the setup is what we should be looking at.....i know for a fact the Ali Machincy and Dave Stephens found the 2 Turbo Ravens they had unflyable on 35mhz due to the glitching which was cured when they moved to 2.4 i don't beleive it to be masking the glitch merely moving the radio frequency we use to communicate with the model beyond the glitch frequency range as such. if you are using 35mhz you were always looking for ways to mask the interferance so i don't feel we are masking it with 2.4 just moving the receiving frequency away from the glitches steve
  19. hi all     its funny this debate has come up again given what i've been flying this weekend,eh david??     we've been test flying a model this weekend but for a change we popped it onto a 35mhz set-up oh my what a difference!!  we experienced quite a few hits to say the least which i'm sure i would not have had on a 2.4 set-up it was quite an eye opener to say the least. it goes to show how used to glitch free flying i've become on 2.4 nasa

  22. Interesting answer by the LMA about the commentry at Cosford 2009 so far as I am aware there were quite a few complaints about this very thing and stating that they had not heard any other complaints or critisism about the commentary surprises me. The show as always was good ,but I am at a loss as to why or even how the LMA find it acceptable for four letter explietives to be put out although probably unintentional over the tannoy system. I'm pretty sure this is what the report spoke of . I'd certainly be interested to hear Dave's explanation of this occurance is or is it a case of if we don't mention it hopefully everyone will forget it. Steve
  23. hi dave       the 5000 looks better on paper but it depends how many cycles the 5000 packs will last generally speaking the higher c rated packs seem to have a longer useable life probably because the pack technology is newer i would try to get some info from someone who has operated these cells in the long term to see what they're really capable ofsteve
  24. with a BEC in the system that would explain the motor running if it was opto there should be no chance of the motor turning with just the receiver in the sytem. i missed the comment that it "drove" the motor (CHRIS i am so sorry my humblest apologies for missing a word) i thought danny had JUST said it had armed.     with regards to the power available you cannot directly use full size - model power relation as the air molecules do not get smaller for a model  flight  i wish you luck with the maiden one thing is for sure it won't be overpowered on 2hp it will if anything be scale ish.   as i've said i personally would have gone for  a bigger motor for sure......i would have gone down the route of powering it the same as the 45cc output would be or at least 30cc equivilant steve
  25. hi danny      rx pack is not enough to drive a motor of that size it may arm but i'm pretty sure even a 6v pack would struggle to run it.......that said i think the set-up you have may be a little optimistic to fly that model on what surmounts to 2hp i reserve judgement till you've flown it but i would say be careful and treat it with kid gloves at first. i may and hope for your sake i'm wrong but it all seems a little too under what i would call a safe figure i would be looking personally for 2kw+ steve Edited By nasa_steve on 16/12/2009 19:14:35
