  1. I sat down with a coffee and had an enjoyable read, the articles that dont grab my immediate attention get read later. One thing I would ask for is photos of reviews/builds without the cowl or wing. I'm interested to see how others install their radio and engines. Seeing how others cope with minor problems gives me a hand when I tackle similar problems. The standard of the photography is very good but could we please have a couple less of the completed model and one or two of the insides? I'm really enjoying the focus on a particular model and the story behind the build, very inspiring! Thanks Bucks
  2. My silicone was for sealing gas exhausts on domestic boilers, I thought it would withstand ghe heat ok. It seems to have expanded and broken the seal between the goo and the exhaust so that now the two are seperate. Because it was moulded all the way around the exhaust it still surrounds the exhaust. Ive done this twice with the same results so I think the sealant cannot stand the heat. What have others used successfully? Bucks
  3. Ive got one of the CRRC 26 cc engines and used the red silicone and tape too. Its come straight off despite de greasing the exhaust first. It is still wrapped around hte exhaust but no longer attached. The engine was too noisy and its been retired until i can find a quieter exhaust that will fit. The silicone was suitable for glueing gas exhausts together, i think its the right stuff. BB
  4. We are in the same boat, my son takes his test next week. One company we looked into is called i kube, its another one that fits a box to the car. You cannot use the car between 2300 and 0500, if you do you pay ?60 per night extra. Its all backed up by the fact boys are involved in more crashes late at night, involved in fatal crashes more too. You can move the car about 100 yards which allows you to move the car off drives etc. Other than that, no exceptions. It quoted about ?1000 cheaper which pays for a lot of taxis so he can leave the car at home at night.

    Tx Batteries

I bought the Eneloop battery pack from my local shop, they are the Overlander ones. They are absolutely fantastic, they retain their charge easily. Highly recommended! I paid ?25 for the pack by the way.
  6. Hi all, Well I tried again and it all went badly, my fault again that it did so. I successfully re engined the plane with an Asp 80 4stroke at went flying on Saturday. The engine was started and tuned and she was lined up, all controls were double checked but then she she nosed over. After a re start I lined her up again and off she went. She started a slow drift to the left which I corrected but she failed to respond! She cartwheeled into the long grass and ripped out the fire wall and wing. I think the first failed launch affected the aileron servo connection and I never checked ahead of the second launch. So two lessons, use the connectors to ensure the lead doesn't come apart and check the controls on all flights! Luckily the breaks in the wood were all clean and easy to repair. Epoxy has been used on all joints and she looks good, it was a far easier and quicker repair than I had thought on first seeing her in bits. Two flights, no landings yet, third time lucky I hope! 7. Too late gadyrdal, I had Monday afternoon off and bought a new engine mount for a spare ASP 80 fourstroke that was destined for somewhere else.  It's already bolted in and work on the cowl has commenced.  I wish I'd tried it with the 8 pitch prop now.  Ill let you know how it flies but it wont be for a week or two, work keeps getting in the way! Thanks for the advice
  8. Well, she flew but only just!  She staggered into the air, did a half turn back to the strip and dropped into the brambles.  Luckily damage was limited to the leading edges getting srapes and lumps in it.  It wouldn't/couldn't get the airspeed to fly.  It was an ASP 61 turning a 13 x 6 prop, total weight was 7lb 2oz. The exhaust was bolted on before she flew by the way.  Will the engine turn a bigger prop or do I re engine up to an 80?  The would require a new cowl as it's a but longer and the gap twixt cowl and prop would be noticeable. Oh well she's in a better state than I thought after seeing her go in so work will continue! By the way she's covered in Pro film for the fuselage and tissue and water based varnish for the wings.  Then sprayed from tins and varnished over the top.  I like the tissue as it gives a nice sandable finish.   Bucks
  9. Sorry,  I meant to include a side view too.  She's sporting a new spinner and black painted prop, the tail colours have been painted and the exhausts are on. The letters are a bit too big and bold but I cut them out myself, it shows Ft Lt Nicholsons plane from August 1940, he won the VC in it.  He was shot up and about to bale out when he climbed back in to shoot his attacker down.  He suffered serious burns and wounds, even being shot at by the Home Guard whilst parachuting down to earth!   Bucks
  10. Hugh, I don't know how much it all weighed, the whole plane comes in at 7lbs 2 oz.  (1785g)  I've taken a photo of the engine, the lead is rolled up and hammered flat, it's then glued on using silicone sealant.  Then the whole lot is bolted together and then screwed to the motor mount.  Despite my best efforts I had to add more which is why there is a second lot bolted to the firewall. The second photo is of the air botthe for the retracts, I wanted it all mounted on the wing so that none of the connections are touched when the wing comes off. The note shows that the wing in total weighs 3lb 3oz. I'll get anther flyer to look over it tomorrow first but if all goes well it awaits a flight tomorrow! Bucks
  11. Dear All, Here's a photo of my Hurricane that is nearing completion, it's still got exhausts and small  bits to go on.  The tail is now painted but while he sun was out I couldn't resist a snap.   I bought the Sky RC air retract system for it, this cost £85 for the whole system including two sprung oleo's.  The engine is a SC 61 fourstroke, weather permitting and a good look over irst, I'll try and fly her this Sunday.  It's taken me over a year to finish, several other models have got in the way.  The main delay was over the retract system.  Originally I installed the mechanical system but this it never operated smoothly.  This was when it only had the top skin on too, I knew to finish the wing off would seal it all up forever.  So, it was put on hold and eventually I bought the Sky RC set, this wasn't fault free either.  One of the pistons was faulty but was replaced straight away by Moor Models. It's got a lump of lead in the nose to balance it all out.  I'll let you know how or if it flies!   Bucks

  13. I've got a TT 90 and I've been very pleased with it, it runs like a dream with plenty of power. I've got both OS and TT and will be buying a TT for the next engine, it's a lot cheaper and I can't tell the difference. Hope it helps BB
  14. I bought a set of the new Sky RC air powered retracts the other day.  The set includes air up and down and oleos all for £79.  As is common these days the parts seem identical to Robart fixtures.  I've installed the set following the instructions and I'm having trouble getting them to work.  The valve has two small screws to adjust the rate at which the legs move.  I can't work it out and the legs either move a tiny bit or only one.  I'm pumping up to 100 psi but without much success.   I've even changed the valve to a Robart one without success. The units themselves are not binding on anything, can anyone suggest a set up procedure please?
  15. Phil, It is the aerial wire exit, if you look inside the fusealage there is an empty plastic snake disappearing towards the tail, slide theaerial through that. We've just retired our plane, a fantastic model.  It flew beautifully with the TT46 in it, it's only retired due to age and constant use.   BB
  16. Paul, I'm building a Mossie, where did you get the 3 bladed props from?  Are they handed? I've dug all the bits out of my Twinstar and built them into the Mossie.  It's getting there but still a week or two away from flying. Thanks Bucks
  17. Shaun, I've built his Sunderland model, it went together beautifully.  Would love to build the B 17 but can't help.  I bought all the motors and ESC's from Giant Cod, made it abit cheaper.  Good luck!   BB
  18. When you buy the Sim you specify the brand of radio you use and you get the right lead with it.  Of they did when I bought my Phoenix, excellant sim bt the way.   BB
  19. Sorry but I've posted this in two different threads, here's the Mk 2 coming in to land.   BB
