  1. i cover my moving surfaces with Solartex, then hinge them, then before covering the rest of the model/wing etc I remove them, then just like an ARF you put them and the hinges back in when ready.

Craig it will probably be ok, but the plans do show the scarf join on the three side sheets in staggered positions (as it should be so the stress is not in one point)   In his build article TN states Start by making up fuselage sides from sheets of 4.5mm (3/16” balsa You will have to splice sheets of 900mm (36” balsa to make these sides. Note the ‘cut’ outline is slightly larger than the fuselage profile. This takes into account the curvature of the fuselage and the trimming required to level the triangle flush with the tops of the fuselage formers. I'm sure a butt joint with a doubler should be ok Edited By Grahamd on 16/07/2010 21:27:51
  5. Poly-C Polycyclic (water based) covering solution used as a friendly alternative to Epoxy (with F-glass cloth, tissue etc), also known in the trade as "Ronseal Floorseal XL".

"Apparantly poly C and ronseal diamond are exactly the same stuff."   Sorry but NOPE   Poly-C is manufactured by Ronseal for sealing and hardening wood used on Gyms & Shopping Mall wooden floors (tested with heavy fork lift trucks carry weights), it's trade name is Floorseal XL.   Ronseal Diamond is NOT the same, Floorseal XL bonds and laminates at molecular level, Diamond does not, it just seals, and is sold to joe public as it contains none of the ingrediants (apart from the H2o portion) of Floorseal XL due to what can be sold in shops in the EEC.   A simple way to cover foam (blue or white) is to use tissue (ask any shoe shop for freebies), and apply just like paint with a brush. The first coat will hold te tissue down and in place, the second coat will make it very tough, apply a 3rd coat and its a job done.

  9. After the Cold shutdown, if it still happens pres F8 and start it in safe mode. Some updates can cause this problem, so worse case doa  system restore to a point a few days back, or select "last known good"  
  10. Do a COLD shutdown   Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds and the computer will shut off. Wait about 15 seconds, then turn the computer back on.

  14. Jim I feel your pain with the cowl, spats and canopy. The cowl and spats are by far the worse moldings I've ever come across, no markings, either scale or cutting. I've just cut my canopy, I built the cockpit sides, and then put the canopy over and then you can see where it needs to be cut, but cut 1/4" oversize, easier to cut more than have to put it back  
  15. No matter how good the kit, (or plan) builders (US) are a very small minority in this day and age. No matter how good the kits are (Skyshark in the USA is an excellent example of great cad drawn plans, excellent laser cut parts, and top quality parts, with impressive written (and downloadable) manuals with pictures) that the number of people purchasing them is dwindling. Skyshark have stopped making kits, why ? the numbers were just not there, plus the cost of quality parts in the box (laser cut, manuals etc) made the price higher than a chinese ARFs..... Sad as it is, this is now the future

  18. Must admit the build article in the mag sucks, ok if you've done lots of building but for a new comer to building, Nope. You have to study, study, study then study the plans again and again, and then look to this thread (and others) to grasp the details. Not the worse though, have seen much worse!!! As for the lanc, good luck, if you need any scale info (articles,  mag reprints, books etc) on the lanc let me know. I did pm Supermario about the Halifax as again I have lots and lots of info (mostly in .pdf) and most are now out of print.  But anyway back to the Topic. Moldings arrived today (URGH), looks like a lot of work ahead. Started inner panels today  
  19. Bent and formed my ally undercart today  ps. my Halifax plans arrived today , spent some time to day figuring things out and searching the net for retract units, but thats another thread.

  21. Taken a few years ago at RAF Basingbourne when the LMA were requested to perform a "Mass" fly past and poppy drop.
