  1. Yep, I've got one of those too, and that's a much better prospect.  I plan on using a brushed geared motor - the Robbe Planeta sp700 - and a 4s1p lipo pack, which should provide ample power and mean not adding too much lead up front, I've added the dummy ribs to the sheeted leading edge of all wings and am replacing the solid balsa sheet tail surfaces with built-up versions. Not going to try for the folding wings though- or at least not intentionally....
  2. Posted by David Ashby - RCME Administrator on 29/08/2010 09:23:47: Yes it seemed obvious that JR would be coming up with a new low-end 2.4GHz radio as their agreement with Horizon (where Horizon release low-end DSM2 radios and JR do the high-end stuff) had expired hence the recent appearance of the Spektrum DX8.    Any thoughts on the switch to frequency hopping? I guess in the long term JR DSM2 users won't have much choice but to buy Spektrum receivers.               Edited By David Ashby - RCME Administrator on 29/08/2010 09:28:01  In the long term surely  there's a chance that nobody will be buying Spektrum DSM-2 receivers, if the protocol is found to be breaching the new reglations when they come into force next year. How long will DSM-2 continue to be supported. It seems that JR have said they will support their DSM-2 users for a couple of years, in the statement referenced above. They also confirm that there is no viable upgrade path from DSM-2 to their new system, other than presumably completely new modules and receivers.
  3. Mac Man is to be commended for making the statement that was made, unpalatable as it will be to many JR-DSM2 users, it'd be nice to see Horizon clear up their plans should the negotiations on the regulations for 2.4ghz go against the DSM2 system.
  4. Rob I bought one of these from a chap as part of a job lot, several years ago. Stripped it back to bare balsa for an electric conversion and concluded that she was just too heavy for a successful electric conversion with retracts. The model uses a lot of heavy, thick, balsa sheet and would need quite a bit of modification to lighten her and with the short nose would be a divil to balance. If you can find a Pilot Hurricane that makes a better option - built up stringered rear fuselage - or, alternatively the DB Hurricane Mk 1 1990 RCSA free plan works better in terms of the numbers as that also has a stringered rear fuselage. Pictures of the Prototype of that Freeplan Build here, I guess the plan is still available. Cambrian Bf109 E-conversion, Pilot Hurricane Mk1 and Bowman Models Hurricane, part way through e-conversion. I abandoned the Bowman as just too heavy and gave it to a clubmate to refurbish and fly I/C. The Pilot Hurricane will work - I've done the similar Zero - and is designed with the option of fitting retracts. Hope the above is of some use
  5. You can always tell an engineer,.............. but you can't tell him much.......
  6. Mine sits straight and level. There's an extra bit of foam at the tail end to support the rear fuselage.  I hold a bit of up elevator in and then gun it, and for most of my funfighters they are up and away in well under 10m. Zagis are a bit more tricky, but can be done. No need for a rudder, if the dolly swings too much just set the tailwheel to the appropriate angle to offset the curve.
  7. Heyyyyyy! I got one of those -they work great.  No more dodgy hand launches. One thing I might not have mentioned, remember to undo that rear joint when you put it in storage, if they are left under strain for any length of time the nylon fractures. Happened twice to mine before I realised what was happening.
  8. Gonzo - tests done in the US need to be treated with care, since the UK spec transmitters have a lower power output of 100mw versus >200mw for the US-spec versions.
  9. I've taken to installing these with the long aerial in a piece of heatshrink CA'd to the fuselage side, ensuring that the aerial is retained in the correct orientation, perpendicular to the short one, but without directly taping it down. The received itself is velcroed or servo taped to the fuselage internals.  That comes from having torn both aerials off a Frsky RX when the fuselage sides, to which they were taped, parted company in a crash in which damage was limited to the entire fuselage.
  10. Posted by Lee Smalley on 27/07/2010 11:19:38: who goes around saying they are indoor only !!! People who don't get out much?  Despite my misgivings about the long term future of DSM2 I bought yet another AR500 yesterday - that'll be my fifth one. I do tend to fly a long way off  with my BVR Tucano and the link looked rock-solid to me.  The same goes for the ones in use in my Mini Edge 3D and my boy's Ripmax Spitfire which are both flying well out of what I'd deem to be typical parkflyer ranges and have beencompletely rock solid so far.
  11. BB I've had a flick through the pictures that I've got here and unfortunately there don't seem to be any of your Decathlon. Tim was not there yesterday, so there are none of the superb Hurricane flight either. If I had thought I'd have brought the camera and taken some myself on Sunday.
  12. Will do Danny. I was gobsmacked to learn that the field is used for football in the winter. The groundstaff must do a superb job of maintaining their pitches, because the quality of the turf there is excellent.  By May most municipal football pitches are either a quagmire  <giggetty>  or a desert of bone hard, rutted earth, with a thin veneer of tortured grass. Authentic for some of the luvverly WWI biplanes (and monoplanes and triplanes) but less forgiving to the rest.  We really couldn't have wished for a better surface than that which was in evidence over the weekend,
  13. Prop I think that the Greenacres electric meet was a bit earlier this year than usual - in previous years it's been an August event, usually a week or so before the BMFA Nationals.
  14. No Lipo user should be without a Lipo Guard ... It was a brilliant weekend and if anyone's making the trek to Colerne on Sunday we may well meet again soon. It's a long way but somewhere I've always wanted to attend.  Edited By leccyflyer on 26/07/2010 08:07:22
