Wots Wot more difficult to fly than a Wot 4 ?
Brian Cooper replied to Andy-H's topic in General Electric Flight Chat
Biplanes are not necessarily more difficult to fly but they are certainly different from single-wing aircraft. But that's the beauty of the hobby/sport. Each type of aircraft handle differently and it is fun to explore the envelope. Biplanes soak up power, and they are not renowned for their gliding capabilities, but the aerobatic ones enjoy being tied in knots, plus they have a brilliant characteristic of being able to make landing approaches at slow speed but with a high rate of descent. Build it and have some fun. -
The moving runway thought puzzle
Brian Cooper replied to paul devereux's topic in All Things Model Flying
Forget wheels. An aeroplane doesn't need its wheels to be turning as a pre-requisite to flight. Nor will it stay on the ground if the wheels are turning at a greater speed. -

I must confess to being very amused with this thread. Okay, chaps, imagine this conveyor belt is on an aircraft carrier. It doesn't matter if the belt is running forwards or backwards, the aeroplane will still get airborne in exactly the same time/distance. . . . . Because the aeroplane isn't attached to the runway. -
The moving runway thought puzzle

People seem to assume that the aeroplane is solidly attached to the runway. The runway and the aeroplane are two completely different entities. The aeroplane couldn't care less if the runway happens to be a conveyor belt.... the aeroplane will independently move forward under its own power, it will gain flying speed and it will takeoff regardless of the speed of the conveyor belt. The worst that can happen is the wheels might be turning a bit faster. -
Have you started your flying season?

Indeed. . My flying season began in about 1962. 😉 -
Give a thought to practical colour schemes for trainers
Brian Cooper replied to toto's topic in Beginners
Contrasting colours certainly helps. But anything which breaks up a bland, single colour will help. It is also a good idea to have some bright flashes on the leading edge of the wings to help visibility when the model is flying towards you on landing approaches. You will be amazed at how well it works. The red "meatballs" and the yellow trim stand out really well on my Zero. . . No wonder they got shot down.. lol.
