Might be a tad fragile so try and do your best landings. Having a non slope airfoil can effect a model's performance a bit, but in good lift I have found it's not really that noticeable. I have been flying a HK Durafly Spitty for five years and it is a lot of fun in anything above 10kts.   Edited By KiwiKid on 08/06/2016 10:33:22 Nice pic Kid. I also have flown several ARTF Spittys on the slope over the years, but none quite as big as this SA version. Have had a couple of the Ripmax and Hobbyking ones, and both fly very well on the slope, although I confess I left the powertrain in ...... just in case! No such luxury with this one My landings are usually one of my better features..... oh bummer, thats blown it ;-( Incidentally, someone suggested that it may be better to have the COG a fair bit forward of the norm due to a lack of propwash etc? Can't see how that would affect things myself, as the lift wind will surely be replacing that, and after all, having flown several ep  models on the slope both power on and off, I saw little difference in their pitchability on /off. I have now finished the model and its a tad nose heavier anyway. Thoughts ?   Edited By Tim Mackey on 08/06/2016 18:07:40

  4. Great write up on the Bwlch meet Phil

  8. Well almosty finished, just the cowl and spinner to sort. Its still in a rough and ready state, and the pilot is AWOL, but not bothered about that for the maiden. The garish blue underside covering is original but along with other alterations all this will be remedied after the test flights. Quite pleased with the final AUW - just on 5.5lbs, which is as near as dammit 2lbs under the IC weight. By my reckoning the wing loading is around 18oz per sq foot - very reasonable for a scale sloper - given the right conditions of course! All those little mods I did to strip out any unneccasary weight seems to have paid off, as they say, every little helps. Wind forecast seems a lot better today, with 10-12 MPH SW ( should equal at least 15 and likely more up top ) Heres hoping for a great weekend, I've still a bit to do on other models such as the Vampire which needs a different battery etc, but all should be ready for Saturday
  9. Ive almost finished converting a 91fs IC Spitfire to slope - kindly "donated" by Mr Foam Mark Kettle, and hope to try it this weekend. Very nicely built by its previous owner, but never flown. I actually have the excact same model already, but it has been flown quite a lot at our power site - a Jamara / Sportsman Aviation ARTF. I have lightened it wherever possible by stripping out the full size heavy servos, the engine and tank obviously, retracts and retract mounts, rudder servo and snakes, tailwheel etc etc. Ive repositioned the elevator servo right up the nose on the original engine mount, together with the battery, and around 1.5 lbs of lead. I've replaced the aileron servos with strong minis. Its gonna need a decent wind I think, and the wing section is hardly perfect for a glider, but hey ho, we'll see what happens! Heres my own 91 for stroke version from a few years back **LINK**
  10. Lovely job John - and great text to accompany the picsl. I do enjoy a witty blog and yours tickles my spot mate 😊
  11. OK on the gear Just need to hope the wind gods get it right this time. As before, if folk will bring whatever food they want cooking, I - or someone else - will do our best to not burn it to within an inch of its death, or undercook it to within an inch of yours. A quid or two here and there will help pay for the gas, and if any campers amongst us could supply a decent folding table for the day, we're sorted. Best to post here if said table is arriving, in case we get enough to fill the albert hall - its already full of holes dont ya know. T.
  12. I've spoken with Phil, and am in the process of securing said grill and fuel etc. I'll post here as soon as I have confirmation
  13. Cliff drop me a pm if u want any more help or a flyng partner for your trip. Great name btw 😃
  14. Great shots again Phil and co, really captures the atmosphere of a meet - great models, scenery, flying, and banter. V Pleased you all managed to make a success of the weekend, well done to Steve too for making it happen. Really must try to schedule things better next time as Im looking forward to flying the Bwlch. Andy - the BUFF is looking really nice in those shots - ah that reminds me, the workshop beckons See you guys and gals on the big rock soon.
  15. Nah not today mate stuck in work until late. May be up tomorrow
  16. Sad to hear that. Cracking 17 mph wind here in Llandudno ( 30+ on the big rock i expect ) with only one short shower about 2 hrs ago and dry for rest of day! If u all leave now u should get the last hour in 😂Edited By Tim Mackey on 21/05/2016 14:07:48

  19. Which of the trainer settings in the master tx are you using ? Have you tried using programmable master / p-link and other variants ? What happens when the slave is disconnected etc. I would be going right back to nil and starting again IE: start with a new model memory in the master and rebind after trimming etc, get the master working exactly as you want it on the model first. Then select a fresh model memory in your slave tx, dont apply any trim or reverses etc. Now select P Link trainer system in the master and check all still responds as before. Connect your buddy lead ( mono plug each end right ? ) to the slave, switch on your master tx ( NOT the slave ) and see what happens........
  20. Hi Allan - dont forget to call me next time if you want company / help I think we exchanged numbers /sms some time back ?
  21. Posted by onetenor on 13/05/2016 04:37:58: Growing up in Liverpool we were very lucky with LMS I had two which sold kits and odd bits a 10 min walk away .A 10 min bus ride took me to town where there was a hobbies and precisionModel engineering There senior guy opened it as Stan Catch;pole's Model world then moved to bigger premises .If Stan didn't have it it couldn't be got Hobbie closed and it was mainly to Stan despite there being A MODEL SHOP in the St John's Market but that was really a glorified Model shop. Stan has passed away and another Model World rose from the ashes so to speak but nothing on the scale of Stan's place Still in businessI I belivee I now live near Prestatynbut the nearest REAL model shop is in Holywell Rhyl has a trains shop or two atrains shop in Rhuddlan and a cars shop too. Colwyn bay is next place for proper LMS x2 One in Rhos has closedrecently. So it is possible to get to a model shop by car .Or even by bus but it takes some time and is an hourly service Sevice in these shops is good though Colwyn Bay ?.....last model shop I ever saw or used in the Bay was in Greenfield road and that closed down about 15+ years ago ? I've lived here for the last 16 years and despite the odd ( usually fruitless ) trip to model exchange in Holywell / Greenfield havent used any "local" LMS for all that time. Steve Webbs is nearest and thats almost 2 hour round trip, and at petrol costs the way they are - no chance As someone said earlier POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS PARTLY TO BLAME FOR THEIR DEMISE.
  22. Hi Phil. Getting lights ( LED or filament style ) bright enough to be seen in daylight is challenging, and usually requires a bit of relaxation on scale size. "Power" leds are the way to go, but despite them being cooler than filament lamps, they still generate a lot of concentrated heat, so bear that in mind too. Powering them is fairly easy as long as bear in mind the two main things. 1) Unlike filament lamps, LEDs are polarity concious so must be connected correctly. 2) Excess current is baaaaad - as with many electronic devices, its not the voltage that killes them its the current. Current limiting resistors are used in series with the diodes to limit the maximum current and this will vary with voltage. You can run them off almost any voltage above 1.5, but limiting resistors MUST be used. I normally run mine off a 2 or 3s Li-Po fitting resistors as required. Ultra bright LEDs will use a fair bit of power, so dont run them off your main flight pack, unless you intend them to be on for only very brief periods. Braincube and others supply complete solutions if you dont fancy building up your own looms etc. Several palces now also sell rc switches which can be used on a spare channel to switch the lights on and off Edited By Tim Mackey on 12/05/2016 11:11:46
