  1. As above but don't forget to multiply the current (in amps, not miliamps) that you wish to charge at by the volts you want the resistor to drop (minimum battery volts minus power supply volts. This will give you the Minimum wattage of the resistor. Best pick one at least double that. e.g. current 80mA = 0.08 amps. Volts across resistor (to use Phil's example) 11v 11 x 0.08 = 0.88 Watts Say 1 watt. So your resistor needs to be 150 ohm at 1 watt. If it were me I'd go for a 2 watt resistor at 150 ohms. Apart from the rectifier diodes is the resistor the only component in the charger? Ian
  2. The test says I'm from the Hull area!! Born in the Midlands and lived in Dorset since I wuz 3 i.e. 59 years. Maybe I just like Yorkshire. Ian
  3. I'm not familiar with the DX6 but the images I've seen of one suggest the aerial is fixed - pointing skyward. Is it fixed? If so That would make Pete B's comments very relevant. You'd need to point the transmitter at 90 degrees to your model for best range. This may explain your comment above as the pilot may have been pointing Tx directly at the model. Ian
  4. And it made me wonder why I bothered! But it was just a trial and I wondered about other's experiences. For an extra 6 quid I could get a genuine Minima. Which reminds me I need to order a couple more Rx's. Ian
  5. A few months ago I bought a couple of these to see how good they were. In use they seem to work fine. I'm only trying them in a low value foamie with no non-flyers nearby - just in case, To get a bit of confidence in them, but I'd noticed that on startup the servos jittered somewhat and their travel wasn't smooth. At one point before launch 2 days ago the elevator ceased functioning for 5 seconds. Errrr. Discretion being the order of the day I packed everything up to investigate later. Today I decided to do said investigation. And all the above problems resurfaced but no worse. I thought it might be a binding issue which I re-did with no change. Then I did a range check and the problems all disappeared! Curious. That got me thinking so with receiver energised and Tx (Aurora) in hand I started to back away from the receiver, twiddling the sticks as I went. At about 1/2 metre the problems were ever present with some strange behaviour. At about 1 metre the issues were less. At 2 metres the problems had all but disappeared. At 3 metres - no issues whatsoever with smooth output from the servos. Just to say all the above applies to both receivers. The only conclusion I can come up with is the signal strength from the close proximity of the Tx swamps the receiver causing these problems. My confidence is now restored. I just have to be aware when doing pre-flight checks and launching solo. Your thoughts? Has anyone had issues with these alternative receivers for Hitec or other brands? 6. Forgot to welcome you to the Forum. Feel free to as any questions - there's a great knowledge base here. Tell us a little about yourself. Ian
  7. Hi Brad. Are they compatible to buddy? If not have a look at this. I bought one and it works on the bench. Not tried it in anger. You just need room in the model for it and another receiver. Ian
  8. From a Canadian relative of mine. While stitching a cut on the hand of a 75 year old farmer, whose hand was caught in the squeeze gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to politicians and their role as our leaders. The old farmer said, "Well, as I see it, most politicians are 'Post Tortoises'.' Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post tortoise' was. The old farmer said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a tortoise balanced on top, that's a post tortoise." The old farmer saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain. “You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, he's elevated beyond his ability to function, and you just wonder what kind of dumb person put him up there to begin with." Best explanation of a politician I've ever heard.!!! p { margin-bottom: 0.25cm; line-height: 120%; }
  9. Did my first Air Cadets flights in a T21. But solos we done in a T31 back in 1969 at RAF Old Sarum. Those were the days. Ian
  10. Mine's only covered with the supplied coloured parcel tape. I went with option 3 for a bit of extra strength but didn't bother with the bullet tape (which is also sold at builders merchants as crossweave tape) and, to date, mine has survived. And my zagi was glued together with epoxy. Don't forget to apply tape from the trailing edge first. Its a great model. Tough as old boots and fairly easy to fly. I found the quoted c of g position to be just right. Ian
  11. Victors, If you suspect the sticks try selecting the monitor function from the system menu and watching what happens on screen when you move the stick. If the appropriate channel seems jumpy or doesn't behave and its due to the stick it will show. Did the models roll gently or aggressively? If its a stick problem I'd have thought it would have been a sudden roll, not gentle. Was anything else common to all 4 aircraft? Ian Edited By TheFlyingCrust on 17/02/2015 10:52:12
  12. Redlands Models in Weymouth. Brian does his best to help and I use him for most stuff. For a small independent he carries a diverse lot of parts and models. Ian
  13. Any one that has a parking space outside. Ours has a garden awning they use when its raining. Ours is in a shopping centre. Good service from them for me. Ian
  14. Thou shalt not leave thy transmitter on the roof of thy car when leaving the flying field. (I never did find it! Similar commandment to Dave's but a tad more costly) Ian
  15. Good job I don't live in the village just to the west of Bere Regis in Dorset. Effingham has nothing on this! I hardly ever hear swearing in our club. We've recently had a new member join whose language was - colourful. Nobody said anything but I've noticed his language has moderated considerably. He still slips occasionally though. Ian
  16. I've just got back in the mood after about 9 months of apathy. I think it was my brother who wanted me to help him get into the hobby that helped. I have a couple of projects on the table including a 12 string electric guitar for my son-in-law. but the get up and go just got up and went. Maybe I'm an undiagnosed depressive but the world news over the last year has really got to me. I don't know why, I don't have to keep up with it but there you go (yesterday's news hasn't helped either). But the lethargy seems to be passing. I've been in the workshop a couple of days recently and am progressing with the stalled (err...) projects. Lets hope for some decent flying weather then I can get some sun as well. Ian
  17. Is there across piece, missing from the photo, with numerous holes in it? This is normally screwed to the shaft end of the motor. For front mounting use the shaft collet prop adapter, for rear mounting use the bolt on prop adapter and just lose the shaft inside the fus. Have a look here. Not the same motor but the principal is the same. Ian
  18. On Friday I went out to South Down picnic area near Weymouth. Lovely clear sky. And after a couple of months layoff I still flew well - for me anyway. I gave up 10 minutes later. The wind was too chuffing cold. It must be my age. Ian

  20. Hi John. I've used Solarfilm Litespan in the past and its much tougher than tissue/dope but looks like it. There's no adhesive on the product so you have to use BalsaLoc or similar to bond it. It doesn't shrink quite as much as Solarfilm but provided you get a fairly crease free covering it comes out excellently. Check out Solarfilm's website for more info. Have a look at the Quick Instructions. Ian
  21. Hi Avtur. Exactly the same problem for me. I spent the last 15 years of my working life doing full rotation of a 3 shift system (NHS staff nurse) and my sleep patterns are exactly as you discribe. Gurth is right in what he says. I've recently found out from a sleep expert that establishing a routine is essential to getting back to "normal". The problem is the light emitted by modern LCD devices (phones, flat screen TV's, cellphones) acts as a stimulus delaying normal wind-down to sleep. They emit a lot of blue light. Old TV's and filament lamps don't. Energy saving does have unexpected down sides. Shutting down these devices early certainly helps, I just need to be a bit more strong willed! Ian

  23. Hi John, I'm not acquainted with the model. All I can find on t'internet is this. You'll have to do a Google Translate I'm afraid. Hope its helpful. Ian
  24. Great idea. Is the photo from the North Sea? And a Merry Christmas from me, too. Ian Edited By Pete B - Moderator on 12/12/2014 11:43:34
  25. Surely the company concerned can bill your home address but deliver to a different address? IIRC Last purchases I made from GiantShark allowed this. Redlands Models in Weymouth sell LiPO's. They only open Wednesday to Saturday. Give Brian a call to see if he has what you need. Portland. Now there's an interesting place.
