  1. Posted by Phil B on 06/11/2019 17:09:36: Hi Jon, I need some advice on reassembling my Laser 75 please. I got a new replacement front end with crank and bearings which spin nicely. (thanks to Graham who found one in his spares box). I need to know the timing settings. Do the cam timing dots point to each other at tdc, or point at the cam followers at tdc, or what? Secondly the o rings on the ends of the push rod tubes are hard, so probably need replacing. Are they 7mm diameter or what? Thirdly, the spray bar in the Carb. Does the fuel venturi slot point downwards, upwards, front or back? I know I should have seen these points during dismantling, but hopefully you can put me right please. Thanks Phil I am sure Jon will be along shortly to give you the answers but when I stripped my 90 years ago I asked Neil the same question about the cam timing and he told me the marks did not correspond with anything the timing had to be achieved with a protractor and inlet and exhaust opening in degrees before TDC as with most engines, easy to do if you have the figures, they escape me at the moment but are written down somewhere here!
  2. Hi KC if you do get to scan could I have a copy please? I had the mag but a clear out a few years ago seems to have cleared that one too 😳🥴
  3. Hi Colin Thanks for that, I have used a few AEO motors and they have been very reliable, the ones I am using for the Gannet and Bear are the NTM motors as they were available at the time from HK although the larger two for the Gannet are no longer available but are of the chunkie variety! As the model could do with some weight up front these are not a problem. I did get a set from HK when they did them as I remember at around 375w which I should really use just to get my inspiration kick started. cheers Nige.
  4. Nice one Colin 👍🏻 Do you have details please? Nice to see work in this area.
  5. Why pointless? I enjoy sorting out problems and anyway those systems work for that particular discipline not what I want at all, I know I have a set up, I am also making an adjustable variable pitch prop system to fine tune the set up which can be worked with servo or just used manually. the idea if it works out is to have it run scale 4 blade system if possible, why? Because I can, modelling, for me, is not buying it all off the shelf, I have done that and am bored of it. Edited By Nigel Dell on 25/10/2019 20:40:47
  6. Posted by Martin Fraser on 25/10/2019 14:48:02: Nigel - I like the sound of your contra-rotating power plant, any details published? Cheers, Marty Hi Marty I am back home either Sunday or Monday and I will dig out the motors to give you some details, I think I was working on around 3000 - 3600w of power over the two motors if I remember correctly, I know I was working on turning 18” props but the gearing escapes me at the moment, I know originally I was going to have the motors back to back with the front motor having a hollow shaft but bearings and shafts were not really as reliable I as I liked so was in the process of mounting motors and converting to tooth belt drive but the challenge is getting it to fit but I will publish details on the project if there is interest once I get back on with it. by the way there are wing fold details on the plan. I am also developing a smaller motor contra- rotating motors for a large Tu 95 bear which is easier to develop with the hollow shaft one behind the other but the Gannet is the first one on the board. Cheers Nige.
  7. Martin I got this plan sometime ago and it is a good basis for a really nice model, I was going down the electric route and was in the process of developing the power unit which consists of two motors and was building the gearbox to make it contra-rotating, then life got in the way but once I have my elderly parents moved I will get back to it, it is a cracking aircraft.
  8. You are not alone Jim, I find it a little sad that actually it is taken for granted and somehow it is not of interest but I guess that is an age thing🥴 I well remember my Mum waking me up at 4.30am to watch the BBC and James Burke the presenter then catching it live from the states as a 10 year old I ate, drank and slept the space program and still have 10 year old’s buzz about it now, don’t get me started on the Apollo 13 mission, the stress! 😳🤒
  9. Peter where is the hotliner in the video?😳 that is an Xplorer 3 F5j thermal soarer I guess a 3.8 m model, a hotliner is a completely different animal, I have an Xplorer 2 and at 1.9kg flying weight is just as spritely but the 3 is sub 1.5kgs.
  10. Do you think you maybe mistaking Ulrich for Lanny Lanowski Percy? I had the great pleasure of meeting Lanny on several occasions in the 80’s he used to frequent the Fighter Meet at North Weald and as I recall he did attend a few of the early wings and wheel’s shows, he had with him a rc model of a P47 that had been built for him depicting his aircraft when he flew in the USAAF, a fascinating story he was a great teller of his exploits and he did survive a jet crash/ heavy arrival in the states. 11. I would too embarrassed to even put it in the bin!🤣🤪
  12. Slite V2 Dart RES I have just got the Slite but have had the Dart to build for a while as I have a thing about flying wings should make an interesting back up model, thanks Andy for re- igniting my enthusiasm!! 👍🏻
  13. Well I have got and made up the F3 RES legal bungee, just got to build the models now!🥴👍🏻
  14. I have to admit I was a little surprised by this thread, sorry you are having problems but my experience is they are excellent, I have mainly dealt with Jack and he is most definitely on the ball and very helpful, they are one of my go to retailers.
  15. Posted by paul coleman 1 on 10/06/2019 16:38:45: I was thinking the same myself david,i am wanting a sig model,in which pegasus models have hardly any in stock,i wonder if the market is on a downhill spiral!! In the case of Sig kits, they did have a fire in the saw mill on site which maybe the cause of slow manufacture although I thought it was settling down now.
  16. Hi Andy Seems a real pain getting the battery in there, looking at the plan it is designed around one kind of battery, This Battery I ordered one when I got the kit, I will either use Multiplex or Jeti RX’s in the model as they are ok on 3.2 - 3.5v and keep a good eye on the voltage when flying, I am sure it will be fine, the other way would to make up a pack 2 sticks of 2 This configuration using possibly AAA Eneloop cells. Or do what you did of course! 👍🏻 Edited By Nigel Dell on 11/06/2019 00:29:39
  17. Posted by Andy Sephton 1 on 08/06/2019 12:04:34: That all sounds very positive Nigel, and thanks for the kind words. Lets keep in touch and perhaps meet up for some mutual gliding time. That sounds an excellent idea Andy, I must admit to being in the doldrums lately with my modelling and more importantly flying and this has hit a do it nerve.
  18. That looks great Andy, love the colours, my kit arrived yesterday, my new legal bungee on its way from Seta in Germany as my ‘standard’ bungees were not so standard after all!🥴
  19. Hi Andy, I hope you don’t mind but just a slight (pun intended) correction to the carbon tube sizes. regards Nige. The centre section spar is 12mm od and 11mm id, the LE is 2.5mm and 1.5mm The mid panel spar is 10mm and 9mm, the LE is 2.5mm and 1.5mm The outer panel spar is 6mm and 5mm, the LE is 2.0mm the tailplane spar is 3mm and 2mm Edited By Andy Sephton 1 on 27/05/2019 19:04:58
  20. HI Andy Sounds like a great idea, although I do have some F5j models that languish in the spare room having been playing with slope and power models in recent times, I am sure I can dig something out although if it is 2m then I may have to build something. Nige. P.S. Have just been checking my bungee's funnily enough with the view to use them and happily found them in very good order.
  21. Hi Jon, may I add my best wishes to you and your family, am supporting a family member through similar over the last 5 years, the NHS have been marvellous I have to say, keep positive matey. kind regards Nige.
