  1. Hi Caveman, I have another question about W66 the wing leading edge strips. I am just about to glue these into position but I am not sure about the fitting of both ends of W66 which touch the wing dowl W61. Does each W66 have to shaped and cut at the end so that it goes around W61 the wing dowel, or does each W66 just butt up against the edge of W61. Also does the W66 part hidden under the 'canopy' also have to be shaped to the profile of the wing sheeting or is this left as is. Pic 30/31 don't quite show the front part of the wing. Many thanks for your help. TDP
  2. Hi Tony - did you pre-positioned everything dry first and then glue everything with cyano, or glue each part separately as you go along. Great choice of model kit - another electric sporting option over an Acrowot or Wot4 electric conversion.
  3. Well done Tony - keep going, looking forward to the drive train bit.
  4. Hi Danny, on the subject of the 6S A123 pack, was it something you purchased as a pack or have you constructed the 6S out of individual cells.
  5. Hi all, have a question about parts W44 and W45. Are they supposed to be the same, on my kit W45 is larger and one end of the curvature ends in a point. W44 is smaller and the curvature ends in a 'thicker' point , therefore they have a different curvature. If that makes sense !!
  6. For the electric FunFly version, does anybody know if any side/down thrust needs to be added, or it it just assumed that the electric motor mount kit when attached to the fuselage, takes care of whatever, if any, thrust required. There seems to be no specific mention of this in the build instructions.
  7. Thanks Caveman I'll give it a go. Hi Dean, Yes it is the specific electric funfly, I think the hatch system looks OK, although I have not started it yet, it was just the mounting of the actual LiPo within the fuselage I am not to sure about.
  8. Hi Caveman many thanks for the pictures - can I just ask did you glue F23 to the fuselage and then shape it to fit, or did you shape F23 first and then glue to fuselage. I agree, from your pictures removing the wing to change LiPo is a non starter.
  9. OK, so taken the plunge with my beginner building skills and started on the Electric FunFly version. Not to bad so far, the kit had some bits missing, but SLEC sorted very quickly. However I have reached the rear of the fuselage and part F23 which is a huge block of balsa that needs to be drastically cut and shaped to fit. Are there any tips for shaping F23 or is it just a case of attacking with a saw and tidy up with sandpaper. Not much info on how to mount the battery, I assume that the wings have to be removed - I didn't really want to go down that road but try to use the tank hatch somehow - perhaps trying something like that used in the CF Wot4 balsa kit electric conversion, where the LiPo is mounted in a sloping position. Also, does anybody have experience of motors beyond what SLEC recommend - the AXI is certainly much to expensive. I intend to use a 4S3200
  10. Hi Martin, good to know that they seem OK in a an EDF, as mine are destined for a Dynam ME 262.
  11. So I just got some Dynamic 4S 4500's and I can't believe the weight of 349gms including connector for a 4500, and the price of these. I just hope their performance and charge cycle life matches !!
  12. I like my G.T.Power wattmeter - stores the peak readings too, so I don't need to be near the model when on static test.
  13. Hi Graham, just wondering what sort of flight times you were getting - was it easy to put together, quite interested in one myself.
  14. Glow or Electric, the E-Pioneer is still one of the best to start with.
  15. Hi Danny, Many thanks for you response - sorry should have searched first, but a great build log and with the suggestion of A123 usage, which also interests me.
  16. Hi Danny, I know that this is an old thread, but I too am interested in an electric BH Chippy - so just wondered if you can recall what your power train setup was and roughly any flight times. Many Thanks.
  17. Is anybody able to weigh their LiPos - just wondered if peoples experience of the the weight is as advertised by some dealers.
  18. Thanks all for the update - I have a Dynam ME262 and I was looking to use 2 * 4S 3200 Dynamic LiPo's in parrallel.
  19. Hi Eifion/Caveman - have you been able to use the Dynamic LiPo's yet or any views on performance flight times etc. I am interested in the 4S 4500 they seem a great price over what I am paying and the weight for the capacity seems very light too.
  20. Hi Danny, can you say roughly what flight times you have been getting with your Wot 4 using the A123 6S pack. Many Thanks
  21. For the steerable nosewheel, I took a lead from another RCME plan the Sky 40 Trainer similar size, which advised roughly 20 degrees in either direction on the plan. Although my instructor advised to dispense with a steerable nosewheel in favour of a rigid nosewheel, which I did - seems to work OK. Without a nosewheel servo I use a 60a EMAX ESC which is Velcroed in the battery compartment next to a 4S still has some room for CofG adjustment too, mounted here its easy to get at the ESC and its connections should the need arise. I added a plastic cover for the batt compartment with some suitable air flow holes cut in, which also protects from water/mud spray off our grass strip
  22. Have to say that my E-Pio fuse tube and wing tube although not a very tight fit are not to sloppy, but I guess as these are built to a budget variances will occur, although of course it should be sold fit for purpose. I notice also that on the JP web site prices of some spares like wings and fuse have increased considerably. Mine is still going strong way after my 'A' and I now tend to use full rates for fun and low rates for more relaxed flying.
  23. Hi Bob, and good luck with the maiden flight - and that the weather is good for the flight. My E-Pio weighs in a bit heavier than yours and I use a 12*6 APC-E, will get around to trying a 13*6.5 one day. My E-Pio although a little tatty now, still gives lots of fun with about 7-8mins of varied flying on a 4S 3900 Overlander.
  24. Nice looking model, it would be great if you would post a video of the maiden or any subsequent flights. What sort of flight times are you expecting from that power train.
  25. If you want to go the electric route then how about the E-Pioneer. Mine took me from a novice to 'A' test and now beyond and still going strong, even my instructor liked it and he's an ic type. Very easy to fly giving lots of 'thinking time' very valuable when starting out. Handles reasonable windy conditions ok and spares are available.
