  1. Is that correct . four adults present when there is a youngster present .. Oh come on guys ...REALLY ? thats sad... If a child cannot climb a tree , how will he ever know he is too high ... BMFA is only another political problem ... (that I cannot know anything about being from NZ) The problem of youth into our hobby is world wide not only restricted to the uk.. Its not the club politics that is causing the problem ,is it ? surely its us , all of us .. How can we make this hobby a higher more exciting profile , not only to kids but to dads ect.. Erfolg .. i tend to agree about the solitude of flying alone also... Sorry if Ive highjacked the thread ken ......I didnt mean too
  2. A recent thread I started gave me some excellent answers , Why did we start flying .. Interesting that most started because of dad or grandad. Passed the hobby down the line . I would be the first to agree that flying models and some modelling forums are run by older people . sometimes with narrow minded results.. Kids today are exposed to so many other interests, Their fan bases are usually on TV or the latest trending magazine.. Skate boarding , BMX, Scooters are all trends that keep being reused and re invented ,. Often trends are idiolised on programs such as nitro circus and the latest MTV channels .. Now I put to you all . Is and does Aeromodelling have the profile it deserves . It is usually seen as a bunch of grumpy old men messing around with toy planes .. Sorry but its true i believe.. Is 3d aerobatics and fast slope soarers , inverted helis and jets really seen and admired by young people . or is the exciting side of the hobby only seen at restricted meetings and the odd show.. An interesting little movie was posted at the end of my thread . I am wondering if we need to revamp a movie or a program ,making the aeromodeller more exciting for the youth of today..
  3. Well RCME , and any movie makers , maybe youve all just struck another good idea.. A movie , or a documentary .. Maybe for another thread ... I can see it Now , the modellers revenge , or maybe married to the modeller...
  4. Yahooo , that means we are heading for summer , about time
  5. Thats the key alan , the huge cleanout .. get back to the aspects of modelling we enjoy ...
  6. Hello martin . I have had ARFs with good and bad servos , luck of the draw .. always check they are glued in or fixed in place , and the servo horns have screws in them . then check the connections ,electrical and control horns .. Never take arfs for granted.. In general the servos have been cheap ,but ok .. I would say fly with caution with any cheap servo.
  7. Tony , Ive been following your builds . be careful you will end up with too many models at the speed you build .. some advise tony .. go fly some mate ...
  8. Early this morning I started the power station to charge the batteries for another flying session . I thought about taking a couple of gassers too . but my enthusiasm was lacking .. a couple of hours later I was off with a few old favourites and a couple of new planes .. When I got to the field it was cold and slightly windy . powered up my new greatplanes F20, hand launched and a slight recovery to the right was required just befor it bit the dust .. not much damage .. Not to be put off I got out another unflown plane , HK MX2. powered up , a couple of curcuits , a few rolls a loop , not bad for a test fly , nice plane .. The weather was cold so off home I went .. For some reason when I got home ,the flying session had seemed more like a chore rather than the fun it use to be .. Why .. Thinking about it , I now have too many planes .. too many batteries , too many motors , too many radio sets . Im tripping over planes in my hanger ,yet cant get off the trade sites ,looking at all the latest and greatest. Brings me to my point . why . I use to fly slope and loved every minute of it .. then progressed to power. in the early days it was a challenge just to fly .then as time went by and skills improved , damage was less . I use to build my planes but now buy arfs. TOO EASY. So Im now thinking ,get rid of some of the foamies and arfs , make a bit of room and start building again .. the planes will come along at a slower pace , but thats ok , the money spent will be at a slower pace ,thats ok So im thinking I am going to go back to basics . clean out keep it simple and enjoy the hobby, just like i use too . 9. are they chocolate chip , or just plain ....
  10. Methanol water absorbsion . cant comment .. But containers condensation, possible. oil , nitro separation , possibly . People not shaking their fuel before use.. more than likely. Emptying fuel from a model tank without a filter back into the container , bet thats happened heaps.
  11. I wish you would sell some planes so i could park my car in the garage...
  12. how about a poll on what your partners or friends think of your model habits fine with it think your mad money waster due to be divorced...
  13. tony . need money ... try selling the plans of your aircraft .. Im sure they would sell well as you have a knack for picking unusual aircraft.. Cheers graeme
  14. Posted by Daithi O Buitigh on 04/06/2012 02:16:25: If you check back through the thread you'll find it wasn't actually Tony's choice   I dont think anyone was holding him at gun point Totally agree with the other kiwi... good idea .  Edited By kiwi g on 04/06/2012 10:43:06
  15. Well AA Barry and kiwicanfly , maybe you are asking the wrong person to build it .tonys not the only good designer here . maybe you could convince tim hooper to build one for you , not to mention the other great designers out there. nudge nudge ,wink... come on guys , im getting tired of the aussie chap begging You could ask hoobyking to build one barry
  16. This thread is dissapointing . its not the choice of aircraft its the negativity. a harvard is tonys choice , good on that man . I already have a world models at6 so i too wouldnt build it , but i bet it sells better than the FW190 last year. only because its a good all round plane . The last few years in the voting thread i was always trying to get a theme going for a different style of aircraft.I feel the lysander was popular because of this , its different. Good on tony for his choice this year , remember people . It was tonys choice. his reasons for it are more aimed at commercial rather than popularity i would suspect. Looking forward to seeing finished craft Cheers kiwi g. Edited By kiwi g on 04/06/2012 00:03:53
