  1. Ouch ! I had an incident tuesday night, a fella plugged in his foam-e and buzzed the engine up, he had it on a high table about chest height, facing me & about 6' to my right, I heard it turned to see what it was & promptly moved out of the way, as I didn't fancy having it in my chest or face. What was even more worrying was about 2 mins after he got it in the air the motor came loose & became detached then came out the front !!!!!!!

    Futaba Failsafe

Ok, armed with all your input & info found on t'internet I've sorted it. The white button on the back of the TX module turns the failsafe on & off, it needs to be pressed prior to turning on the TX to switch off the F/S and again to switch on. Then with the TX & RX on & throttle closed press the RX bind button till red light comes on, release button green light on & throttle will now close when TX turned off. Seems to only work on throttle tho, a bit dissapointing but at least the throttle cuts. Thanks fellas.

    Futaba Failsafe

And now this The TM-8 transmitter module and R608FS receiver also provides you with a second safety system, the Battery F/S (failsafe). When the airborne voltage drops below 3.8V, the battery failsafe function moves the throttle to a pre-determined position. If this happens, you should land immediately! If you need to increase the throttle for your landing approach, you may temporarily reset the failsafe function by moving the throttle stick to the predetermined position, after which you'll have about 30 seconds of throttle control before the battery function reactivates. It says provides a second safety system, I'm struggling to find the first ?

    Futaba Failsafe

Just found this on a google search The white button on the transmitter module is the dual purpose "Fail Safe disarming"/"range check" button. To turn off the fail-safe, depress the "F/S Range" (disarming) button then turn on the transmitter. This button also serves a dual purpose for range checking before flight.

It would be possible to rejig the throttle servo. But to be honest if thats what I have to do I will be very, very unimpressed with futaba !!!! There is a button on the back of the module TM-8 that is labeled F/S Range ?
  6. Posted by Steve Hargreaves - Moderator on 14/06/2012 09:50:01: Interestingly in Germany you can have sockets & electrical items installed in bathrooms.... You can here to if installed correctly, with the right protection & in the right zones / areas.

There are no instructions as such with the RX, I'll check the module instructions.

    Futaba Failsafe

I tried a search but didn't come up with anything, so sorry if this has already been covered. I have a Futaba 9Z & have converted it using a Futaba 2.4Ghz module. To run this the 9Z has to be set to PPM mode, now that it is in PPM it appears that I cannot set the F/S, on checking the manual it says that this feature is only available in PCM. On my WOT4 XL if I turn off the tranny the throttle instead of going to idle, goes to full throttle & I have a 26cc Gas engine in it !!! I now feel that this model cannot be flown safely. Am I missing something.
  9. Posted by Erfolg on 13/06/2012 22:52:15: Is the UK alone in apparently restrictive practises, it would seem not. Germany used to or does require a chimney sweep to check all flues and gas type appliances for Carbon Monoxide emissions, if you have any flues or not, on a yearly basis. Apparently a nice little earner, as you are allocated the technician. Plus the government benefits from the VAT and other taxes, yep, we need more regulations, the deficit would be soon wiped out. Correct the UK are not alone. Australia & Canada run the system that I mentioned earlier that WILL be introduced here in the UK, If you are not a registered electrician, you cannot buy electrical materials.
  10. Excellent choice Ken, why do you think it takes a 3 year apprenticeship, lots of exams, more courses on top and lots of money spent to become a qualified electrician, because the work entailed is so regulation ridden and dangerous if not done correctly, it really makes my blood boil when people just think they can just throw an installation together and to hell with the consequences, its the qualified trustworthy electricians that feel the brunt of extra regulations hardest, because we have to do the job correctly and it costs more, google electricians or bodgeit and legit from the pub sort of have an idea of what the job is and they`ll do it the cheapest way just so it works and under cut us everytime and usually they get away it leaving whoever with a potential accident waiting to happen. By the way all the talk of extension cables, 40 metre cables with plugs on run accross the garden etc doesnt come under the 17th edition, its for fixed wiring, what you plug into the intstallation is your responsibility, under the 16th edition any sockets potentially used for outside (usually downstairs) should be RCD protected, under the 17th all sockets for use by uninstructed persons should be RCD protected unless for a specific purpose, such as freezer etc but then theres extra regulations on how the cable is mechanically protected Erfolg when you report a job you dont get asked how much you charged so tax has nothing to do with it, and Part P is a wales and england thing, the EU has nothing to do with it either
  11. Posted by Ken Lighten on 13/06/2012 22:42:53: Bugger!!! I think I will be getting a sparky to do the job then, thanks for all the input - didn't think it was going to be this difficult or regulation ridden, but the last thing I want to do is create a risk or problems later on flogging the house does make you wonder how DIY supply places like QVS manage to sell cable etc to the general public though Edited By Ken Lighten on 13/06/2012 22:46:50 There are changes in the pipeline as we speak/type that will stop anyone who is not a registered electrician from buying electrical goods. None electricians will be able to go to places like B@Q and browse, pick & even pay for electrical wiring & accessories but not take them out of the store, they will then have to instruct a qualified electrician to pick them up & install them. Watch this space !!
  12. I think folk are getting confused here, 17th Edition wiring regs & Part 'P' of the building regs are 2 different things. The wiring regs deal with the actual installation of the wiring & the calculations & measurements needed to do that safely. The building regs deal with the way the wiring & accessories are installed in a domestic property & in particular whats classed as special locations in domestic properties. If a cable is laid in a garden to a workshop, pond, fountain or whatever & it is not installed by a Part 'P' registered installer (said installer has to be qualified to the 17th Edition wiring regs to get Part 'P' registration) then you will not get a part 'P' certificate from the local building control, you cannot then get it part 'P' certified by a different person because they will not have seen how it has been installed & therefore cannot verify if it has been installed correctly. It is the same as building a house & not having it inspected at various stages by the building inspector to be sure that you were building it in accordance with the building regulations. Part 'P' are building regs & those electricians that are Part 'P' registered are allowed by building control to self certify their own work & no body elses, unless they over see it from the start, therefore taking the place of the building inspector. Not having a Part 'P' certificate or 17th Edition Wiring Installation certificates for any notifiable work may affect the sale of the house in the future.
  13. I never win owt but put me down anyway please. I'd rather be flying. Think I'll go to the model shop for a browse
  14. Think I might paint mine red wings & yellow fuselage. Wish I had some old pics of my early model flying years, couldn't afford R/C but had a great time with control line combat & team racing.
  15. Kelvin, Wow, like the pic, what year is that, which is you & what colour is the model (blue wings, yellow fus) ? This one I have is the 63" version, your comment "not being a trad build", I guess this was an early AARTF (almost almost ready to fly). Yes I can see the wing join, does look to be bandage & epoxy/resin joint & feels ok.
  16. A contact through my flying club has given me a Ripmax Dazzler, it was built by his father late '60s early '70s, it has never flown or even had an engine or servo's mounted in it. Generally looks to be in sound condition but has been stored near a window at some point and the yellow painted finish is faded across the wings which are foam veneer. I want to get this model in the air but 1st needs checking over & a re-paint. Any suggestions on what I should check apart from the obvious, what colour scheme, something from the era, what engine etc. I have a few tins of Flair spray paint, would this be ok to use.
  17. Found out this week that Blackhorse are holding back the kits now as they have had a problem with the retract door colour not matching properly, so are waiting for replacements being made. My kit will now not arrive till the 1st week in June.
  18. Hoping that I can buy it with the birthday money everyone IS going to give me Hobby Stores are waiting for them to arrive & one with my name on it is being saved in the rafters.
  19. New Hawker Hurricane released by Blackhorse for 50 - 55cc Petrol. I just ordered mine, any one else got one yet or ordered one or even flown one yet ? I understand that they have beefed up the retracts. Also just donbe a quick search a found what the kit has been based on, has quite a bit of history including this :- Squadron Leader (P/O in 1940) Kenneth N T "Hawkeye" Lee DFC passed away on 15 January 2008 Wounded on the 18th of August 1940 and baled out of his Hurricane I (P3059) at 13:30hrs. He was one of four Hurrcane's from the Squadron shot down over Canterbury by Gerhard Schöpfel of III Gruppe of JG 26 flying a Bf 109. Kenneth Norman Thomson Lee was a Battle of Britain pilot who volunteered for the RAF in 1937. Kenneth Lee joined 111 Squadron at Northolt in March 1939. He was commissioned and went to 43 Squadron at Tangmere. Kenneth Lee flew Hurricanes during the Battles of France and Britain with No.501 Sqn, based at Filton and accumulated 7 victories, the first being when 501 Squadron went to France on May 10th 1940 and Kenneth Lee claimed a Bf 110 destroyed later that day. On the 12th he destroyed a Do 17 and a Bf109. The Squadron flew back from France on June 18th and re-assembled at Croydon on the 21st. On May 27th Kenneth Lee claimed an He111 destroyed and a Do17 on June 6th. While attacking a formation of He111s on June 10th Lee's Hurricane was hit by return fire from one of the He111s and exploded. He took to his parachute and landed at Le Mans. Kenneth Lee damaged a Ju 87 on July 29th and on August 12th destroyed another Ju87. While flying his Hurricane (P3059) Lee was shot down for a second time on the 18th when Oberleutnant Schopfel in an Me109 of JG26 shot him down over Canterbury. Kenneth Lee baled out, with a bullet wound in the leg and landed near Whitstable. In October, Lee rejoined 501 Sqn and on the 22nd October he was awarded the DFC. On November 29th Lee was posted to the Special Duties flight at Stormy Down and later transferred as Flight Commander to 52 OTU, at Crosby-On-Eden. In December 1941 Kenneth Lee became Flight Commander with 112 Squadron when he was posted to the Middle East and on the 18th of September 1942 Lee moved to 260 Squadron. On 10th November he destroyed an Mc202. He took control of 123 Squadron at Abadan, Persia in March 1943. In May, Lee with 123 Squadron went to the Western Desert and on July 27th 1943 Lee was shot down for the third time and captured on a dawn raid on Crete. He was taken prisoner of war to Stalag Luft 111 at Sagan and Belaria. Ken Lee left the RAF in late 1945 as a Squadron Leader.
