  1. Ours is just about to be installed. Its concealed in a small nest box and the plan is to power it from a truck battery supported by a solar panel. It takes a picture at a predefined interval, currently ten minutes, and uploads it to a website. It also displays the current voltage, temperature and humidity.
  2. There's not much wrong with your eyesight Peter! I should have taken the picture from the other end. The problem was that I forgot R1a and then removed a piece of the top sheet to slot it in. The patch will be invisible in the air I hope.
  3. Theres quite a bit of work in these wings but I suppose I'll have to build another one now!
  4. It probbably would have been easier if I had given the LE a basic shaping before attaching it but some brain cells must have had a day off so I didn't think of it. Now on to the spar webs.
  5. The dreaded leading edge is at last in place and the lower sheet attached.

Champher the lower edge to match the ribs. glue in place. Plane the top down to match the top of the ribs. Piece of cake!! Easy for you to say Peter! TRust me! I spend a lot of time developing the quickest and easiest way of doing things because I am lazy and like to build fast. Henry Ford is reputed to have said that lazy people made the best employees because they would always find the quickest and easiest way to do thing!
  7. Geoff, you'll find the clock experts and lots of advice in the clock section here: Clocks

  9. Posted by John Wagg on 15/11/2019 19:39:36: I have all the wood, canopy and even the ribs cut out for it (been in the wardrobe since 87 just never got round tuit. FunFlyers postings have spurred me into having thoughts of actually building it. Watching the progress and thankyou. Still have the magazine. If you have all the bits then you're half way there John. Start building and you might be flying before me. I warned you that mine could be a slow build. +1 for 4-Max.
  10. Thanks for that Peter. However my post was misleading, what I meant was the 1/8th. LE, not the capstrip. Coincidently, "Pilot" magazine have been running a series of articles about the restoration of a full size RF4 and what's very noticeable is the resemblence that the stripped airframe has to the photos in your build thread. The writer has problems with iron on covering that will be familiar to most modellers! He also flys a Turbulent so his credentials are good. You can read it all here: RF4 Restoration
  11. Warning, this will not be a quick build so don't expect daily updates! In fact I've been just a bit under the weather recently and have hardly set foot in the workshop for nearly three weeks. Hopefully things will start moving forwards now, albeit slowly. All comments and advice will be welcome. This is the set of parts prepared some time ago. The fuz assembled. The top decking put up a bit of a fight but we got there in the end. Although I know a four-stroke would sound terrific I'm going the electric route. Since this picture was taken I've installed all the ribs and the top spar. I suspect that shaping the LE cap strip after its been installed may be a bit of a challenge.
  12. Posted by Mike Blandford on 21/10/2019 00:09:51: Did Biggles ever fly a BE2, maybe he did very early on? As I remember, he flew FE2s when first posted to the front. Was that first book "Biggles learns to fly"? Mike I still have my hardback copy "somewhere". I read it so often I almost knew it off by heart.
  13. Posted by Cuban8 on 20/10/2019 14:58:43: Tried to watch the recent Catch 22 series on TV, gave up after two episodes. Same thing with the book, very hard going. Not my cup of tea, I'm afraid. +1
  14. kc just beat me to it. I've always used an ordinary domestic iron. Just protect the sole with a thin cloth to prevent Solarfilm colour being transferred to her best dress, blouse etc. Don't ask how I know this!
  15. Is there something going on at RCM&E? I still haven't received my September issue and an email to the Subscriptios Dept just results in an automated acknowlegement.
  16. Posted by Tony Nijhuis on 20/07/2019 00:05:36: .. Here's the final offering and yet another indulgence for me.... What happened to the Learjet that was mentioned in the other thread?
  17. I've always found good quality white wood glue works very well with balsa. It must be indicative of the age profile on the forum that no one asked, "what's Britfix?"
