  1. Hi lads, thanks for the guidance here. It has similarities with both, however that plan view of the Bellanca does look favourite right now, there isnt a lot of fuselage between the TE of the wing and LE of the tail, the outline of the fin/rudder is almost spot on, I guess the shape at the front is there but needs the outer cowl for the radial? I was guessing the wingtips needed rounding off, but looking at this they are to be square and the build so far would support this this too. Progress indeed here, thanks for that .. I'll try to find a plan to match these initial thoughts and see if can be pinned down! Thanks a lot chaps.. much appreciated.. really is
  2. Afternoon all, this came to me at a swapmeet recently and I cannot find anything to suggest what it is! The span at present is 80" and fuselage length 46" .. I like a postive ID so I can finish her off and get it flying this spring. Its got engine bearers for IC and is rudder/elevator/aileron etc. Apart from the dust its a nice build, straight and strong. The tail feathers are pretty unique and I feel this is where someone might identify it from, I tried to show this in a close up of the rear end. All ideas/suggestions welcomed, Thanks in advance
  3. Donald, better than any hair conditioner that! I hope you pointed this out, from the shed, wearing a pressure cooker lid for cover!
  4. Agreed John, I reckon its called "character"... not sure what the twitter/tubeface term would be for it nowadays.. I'll stick with our version on here though
  5. Hi there Erf, I agree wholeheartedly. Whilst is lovely to see the resurgence of "brit kits" and the CNC packs... I feel the price point will be the key to success or failure.. an cottage industry is not going to make any of these people rich in todays competative world. All power too them as I would not want dampen their spendid efforts at adding a great service to the hobby; I like the idea mentioned of community craft centres.. If only a few local colleges could get their head around this.. probably add good funds to the campus and maybe get some of todays "yoof" interested in hobbies instead of using their hands to fiddle with mobile phones! I'd say it'd be great to have access to lathes and 3D modelling tools.. would probably get us all into night school in a jiffy to brush/learn new skills.. Cor, just imagine if the college who did all this had a super large sports hall and rolled, flat, mown grass too.. I'd call it Nirvana.. who about you?
  6. Posted by ron evans on 04/01/2016 10:55:48: That's the one. "Will post to U.K."....No pick up at Argos? Shame, we could club together and buy just see who they would have that ready in 30mins
  7. Welcome to a fantastic hobby FR.. in my humble opinion the best you'll find!.. Nice build blog by the way Edited By Area 51 on 04/01/2016 11:01:08
  8. Any updates here then? I have an image of the Sunday roast being delayed whilst this motor is heated, gripped in vice and soundly spanked Sorry that'll be the Rochdale MP thread I'm getting confused with..
  9. Lovely job, thanks PatMc.. I have emailed them for a copy, and - I also take your point on the blue foam around the turtle decks. I have been wanting to try some blue foam on a model, so this if going to be the start of it. The pictures up top are not of my own model, one that sold on ebay that I liked the look of and decided to track down.. Job done.. thanks a lot
  10. I'm having a good chuckle reading these.. Good start to the week thanks all..
  11. I can only agree with the sensible comments offered by the lads on the forum here so far... Tis far better to learn in a group with others, it is fun and faster.. and safer for all concerned. Quick question. Anyone wondering if the media are looking to draw comment here as a result of the latest RC incident or to pad out an article? with that famed euphemism "a knowledgeable source"... Reading the OP again, I got a different meaning to the comments made! "Crash my way to perfection".. oh my!.
  12. I remember as a lad my brothers friend (Steve) used to visit our family home, he had a Ford Anglia 100E, this would around 1970 I guess. Anyway, I was too young really to hang about with them, but I did have a look inside one day and commented the passenger footwell was full of water, the "carpet" was more or less floating. He had a tool kit in the boot did Steve, on hearing my comments I reckon he was a bit embarressed; out came a hammer and LARGE flat headed screw driver.. You can guess the rest, he opened the passenger door, aimed the screwdriver in the middle of the floating carpet and whacked it with the hammer.. water flowed from the new drain hole in the Anglia and down the road.. It was black the Anglia.. hand painted black and yellow! As a lad barely ten, I thought it looked like a giant wasp from my folks garden! Never forgotten that one... There was another friend of my brother who rolled his three wheeler "Clarkson style", most times he went out... Didnt last once his old man caught up with him. and we hear facebook and twitter is "fun"
  13. Thanks ED looks lovely - take this one is yours?, I read the thread where someone was putting an Os20 four stroke in it but it did increase the weight etc. This is the route I am wishing to go as I do like the look of the model, but was wanting so just scale up a touch to carry the engine and possibly fit ailerons and drop the dihedral a touch! Therefore on the search for the Frog 45 Mk1 plan with formers etc.   Thanks in advance for any advice! Edited By Area 51 on 03/01/2016 14:37:03
  14. I have used the replacement sheets on odd bits of angle alloy I have lying about, some handier wood off cuts too.. Made a great selection of sanding tools to suit my needs. B&Q sell angle alloy, often have damaged alloy they throw out - or let you have it for pennies or less.. Its easy to make up your own tools this way.. bespoke to smaller / awkward jobs.. Cant dispute the Permagrits tools though, great to have in..
  15. Posted by Area 51 on 03/01/2016 13:07:27: Hi lads, thanks for this. A Frog 45, ... Does anyone have the MkI plan in a PDF at all..? All the ones I can find are of the MkII and this plan is missing the all important fuselage formers. Thanks in advance. Spotted that thanks, the clue is in the question.. I'm after a PDF copy to get it scaled up. Thanks and here is to hoping!

  17. Hello Ernie, Thanks for this, I will give it a go and see how it affects my results... Cheers.
  18. I have the Kyosho ME109 with an Os46fx up the front, it was all but finished and we moved ( few years back too)! This thread reminded me I saw it in the loft when liberating the festive decs.. when I am there putting them away again next week, it is coming out and going flying this sping with me! Seems pretty odd the trad build is more costly than an ARF shipped half way around the planet.. but I am surprised at the CNC kit costs..
  19. Evening all, Any of you hawk eyed fellow modellers out there know the parentage of this one? Name, kit or plan built etc All help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  20. For the avoidence of doubt, I recently had a need to order some new rocker cap bolts for the Os52 (also fitting the Os70 I noted).. in true Jap style, they were 2.6mm! As with Jap cross head screws, they are "slightly" different to our crossheads; I confirmed this when using a Tamiya set of screwdrivers.. the cross head fit futaba servo screws and Os motors at treat!.. I believe there is something like "Jap Engineer Standard" or JES.. their tools and screws are made too this.. So perhaps some of the issues faced here could be by using the almost but not totally right allen key in the first place! I know the Os52 rocker head bolt I was replacing was a victim of this.. A 2nd hand motor that came in an airframe I bought. I digress, do we know if the OP has sorted out this head bolt yet? In a vice with blow lamp, hammer, mole grips and set of torx screws??
  21. Hi FF, Cheers! I owe you at least two pints and packet of crisps, thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. Resizing worked nicely, but I reckon I can do more.. First print wasnt bad at all, but I reckon I can improve here too and going for some printing on parchment for some off white dials.. Looking good so far.. so thanks again, Happy New Year too.. Brgds.
  22. Hi Alan, I found I have photoshop elements installed but unused, I have found an resize function there and improved the DPI to 300 and asked it to auto improve focus/contrast and so far it appears to do the trick! Well for my basic understanding since I opened! The rest in that programme does seem rather involved for me! I couldnt find anything in paint or picture manager, maybe its the older version I am using? Will press on now and see if my first print gives me close to what I am after ! Thanks again
  23. Hi again, I am saving them as jpeg after snipping. Not found anything to sharpen them in the Paint or Picture Manager though FF.. Cheers.
  24. HI FF, right then, leave it with me, I am snipping away and they are opening nicely in MS paint, I will try them in MS picture manager and see what happens. Many thanks indeed, at least a pint an packet of crisps in your debt for this quick fix
  25. HI FF, I found it in Vista where you point me too.. thanks. Any ideas on preserving or enhancing image quality?
