  1. Thanks I will look among my wood stock for some hard 6mm balsa. I dont really see why a relatively small plane with a deepish airofoil wont be fine with balsa spars. Tony
  2. Guys I am just starting my ballerina here in Johannesburg. Are the wing spars hardwood or balsa? All the pics I have seen seem to indicate balsa but the plan does not call out the material only the size. Tony
  3. I think I have figured out how to do a build blog but how do you upload photos? Can one just do a cut and paste in the limited text /space available per posting? If a few people are onterested I will give it a go. Tony
  4. Thanks Tim This is my first attempt at posting to the forum and so I will be following the good work of others as well. My plan is to lay down 5 ( yes five ) of these little cuties. I have got 5 colour schemes planned based on the original camo layout but in red, green etc. Why 5? Well my real interst is in aircraft mass production I suppose and I want to see what it is like to actually attempt something like this. Don't call me crazy because we are all crazy to persue this hobby instead of doing things like clubbing or pubbing or football or watching TV all day or protesting about something. I have been afflicted by this disease ( no known cure ) for 50 years now since I started single channel when I was 14 years old! My favorite book is " A complete account of all the jigs used in the production of the lancaster bomber Vols 1-7 including drawings of every jig. Trouble is it has not been written yet and probably never will be. I believe that there were of the order of 130 000 purpose made jigs used in the production of that aircraft. I shall be using Autodesk Inventor to design the main wing jig as a means of getting familiar with that program but dont expect too much progress in the short term as I am a busy consulting structural engineer. I have completed the templates for the ten wing ribs so far and I will post these for you good folk when I can figure out how to do this. I have recently purchased a laser cutting machine which would make minemeat of this issue but I have not commisioned it yet as I need to finish my new workshop first Tony Johannesburg
  5. Greetings I see on the plan that the motor mount is 23mm above something but that is not the bottom of the wing profile as you can see if you check it. Any explanation as to this? Many Thanks Tony
  6. Only a pleasure but there is only one teeny weeny snag! I am in Johannesburg not the UK! I will be visiting the UK for the ME exhibition in late Oct - 9 November. I shall visit my son in Derby and my daughter in London. If you are not too far north I could pop in to say hello. my e-mail is tonyATaimer.co.za Tony Aimer
  7. Peter My laser machine will accept DXF files. Have had a discussion with a friend who already has his up and running and I intend to use autocad / sheetcam for nesting / export DXF to machne as my probable workflow. Still new to this stuf though except for Autocad whih I have been using for 25 years. Shock and horror1! started with v2.62 I think. Tony
  8. Thanks for the info peter. Look forward to getting my laser cutter up and running using size zero for the purpose Might take a while though! Tony Aimer
  9. Thanks Peter I carefully measured the plan just now and it looks more like 3314 to me. Tony Aimer
  10. Peter Do you perhaps remember what airfoil section you used for the "size zero" model? I am redrawing some parts in AutoCAD with a view to making them on my new laser machine as the trial cut examples. Something better than TLAB perhaps? Thanks Tony Aimer Johannesburg
