  1. Just thought I would add a flying shot to finish this blog. The sharp eyed amongst you may notice that she lost a spinner during this flight but I did manage to find it in the grass on the edge of the field. Also she was flying with the gear down as I forgot to take my air pump with me!
  2. Shaun, That is what I did with mine, I went the brushless route but then to get the cg right I ended up with two 3s 2200 lipos right in the very nose of the model. As I got the model already built it meant some careful keyhole surgery inside the nose to make enough space. As Leccyflyer says the model was designed for heavy brushed motors and nicads. Also the cg seems to need to be quite well forwards on the wing. Having said all that it does seem to be quite a nice model to fly.
  3. Yes it is Warbouys, a credit to our maintenance team. I was simply making a comment and not trying to stir up the lone flyer debate again. For my money too many people want to impose rules on others. Because of my work shifts I often fly alone and I accept the risks and act accordingly. Lets leave it there please chaps.
  4. The models by the way are, a Great Planes Tiger Moth, A SF Piper Cub, a Taft Hobbies Cessna and a home built Blohm and Voss BV212
  5. I went to my club today a arriving at 10.30 and was very surprised to find only one car already there and that member packed up shortly after. From then on I was alone with my thoughts until I left about 3 ish. I kept expecting someone to arrive on such a lovely day. In some ways it was good to be alone and I could practice some low flying without worry, but it would have been nice to have someone to chat too!
  6. Well its been a long time what with lockdown, redundancy and weather but the York has finally flown! How did it go? well a total none event to be honest. A nice straight run out and a nice climb out with plenty of power. It was a pussy cat to be honest, nice and stable and responds nicely to the controls. Two clicks of right aileron trim and that was all. Really impressed with it all round to be honest. Nice one Tony.
  7. That is not a bad idea Denis and had actually crossed my mind but unlike the earlier style cranks that seem to have a seperate pin, on mine it appears to have all been machined in one piece. It is snapped flush with the face of the crankshaft. I suspect it is hardened so it might be difficult to drill the old bit out. Cheers Cliff.
  8. Thanks for the advice chaps. Normally guys I would agree with you but as I have already stated the engine is in good condition. It was not running when I broke the crank pin anyway. I just want to know if anybody can help with parts. I am a multiskilled engineer with over 40 years experience so I know what I am doing. Thanks again Cliff.
  9. These are the two Sc style crankshafts. The one on the right is the type I need. Thanks Cliff.
  10. Really hoping someone can help, otherwise I am a bit stuck.
  11. I have already tried the just engines route and they do not have any stock for any of these makes. Martin the engine you sent details of has the wrong crank. It is more like the early mk1 SC engines. The later s type engines had a front bearing with a smaller inner bore so the crank is thicker in this area and it also has two flats milled in to match the slots in the prop driver so I need a later sc engine with the square head. These were know as the s type engines. I believe the cranks were also the same on a 51 but not certain of that.
  12. I am hoping someone on here can help please! I have managed to snap the pin from the crankshaft on one of my Sc46 engines. Do not ask how please! The engine is otherwise in good condition so I would like to get it running again. The problem is they seem unobtainable now. I am hoping someone one here might have one to sell or an non running engine I can break for parts. It is a late model s type and the part no is S40210. hopefully. Cliff
  13. As it has been nice weather today I thought I would assemble the York and take some pics now she is finished. Just waiting for boris to let us go flying now so I can get the maiden done.
  14. I found this yesterday on Outerzone. It was designed for control line but I think adding ailerons should be easy enough. It is definately edging ahead in the interest stakes.
  15. I am hoping a new project will get my mojo going again. Trouble is nothing is really grabbing me at the moment. Even my shortlist is not really doing it for me. I don't really know what is going on with me. Never really got the drive back since my redundancy last year even though it worked out well in the end. Maybe I should do something a bit simpler, single engine maybe?
  16. I still cannot really decide on my next project after the York is finished. On the shortlist are, Westland Whirlwind, Handley Paige Halifax, Bristol Freighter, Boulton Paul Defiant.
  17. I can sympathise with the original post. I am really struggling to get any enthusiasm to get my York finished. Just a bit of paint and decals needed but somehow can't be bothered. I sit watching any old thing on tv and keep thinking of going into my workshop but it just doesn't happen and I do not really know why. I am also giving some thought to my next project. For once I have some spare cash to hand but despite much online research I just cannot seem to fine either an ARTF or kit that grabs me! Hopefully my enntusiasm will return at some point. 18. I believe there is now an airworthy two seat Hurricane and that would be my first choice if funds allowed. Of course I would not turn down a Spit flight if it was offered. I have been lucky enough to have had a flight in the BBMF Lancaster.
