  1. I have recently had very good service and prices from China Hobby Line. Lipos very good quality too.
  2. Spotted this on the BBC https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-derbyshire-59359263
  3. Found some scrap materials laying in the verge near our house. They are now turned into a carry support/ rigging stand for the Mohawk!
  4. Well today I had 4 decent flights with the Mohawk. It needs a shade less downthrust on the motors. The 9x5 props don't load the motors quite enough so will change up to 9x6 for the next flights. 7 mins from the 3700 4s packs with 60% left at the end. So potentialy 10 mins on this setup. Less with the higher pitch props of course.
  5. I may need to try and introduce some washout into the wing tips. Its an open structure so may be able to use my iron/heat gun to shrink in a couple of degrees at the tips. Still, I'll try it out first. But thanks for the heads up.
  6. Thanks for the info David. Did you fly it on 3s or 4s power?
  7. Anyone got any experience of flying this model? Seems nice and light (2.3kg with 55" wingspan) so shouldn't be too fast and furious.
  8. I recently picked up an unstarted Mohawk kit from someone thinning down a huge stash of ARTF kits. The kit, as supplied, has a steerable nosewheel but no operational rudders . Even though it has 3 fins. So I decided that needed to be remedied. The kit specifies 3s lipo power. I opted for 4s 3700 lipo with lower kv motors. We shall see how that works out. The model is ready to go now, just waiting for better weather. Hopefully Saturday will be test flight day.
  9. Are you doing a de-coke on the head and valves while you have it all to bits?
  10. On the other hand, the very small camshaft bearings in the rear cam box are not at all easy to replace!! Hope they are OK. Just a thought- are the cam gears correctly synchronised with each other and the driving shaft?
  11. Back to the original question. I would try a "scothbrite" flap wheel in a electric drill to get a satin finish on the dural.
  12. Nice job Paul. Where there's a will theres a way! ⁸
  13. I seem to remember, but may be wrong, that the Saito 220 engine used an M15x1 exhaust thread . Maybe some use?
  14. I have M14x1 tap and die (suits Saito 120 -180 exhausts) but can't help with 15mm.
  15. It's an ARTF kit from Bkack Horse (discontinued model for some time now) I picked it up from someone selling up.
  16. Maybe it is really properly seized but I imagine it's just completely gummed up with congealed castor oil
  17. I start with the wing and add up the number of sheets of balsa , strip wood for spars and leading edge and trailing edge wood ( if special section matetial. Make a list onpaper Then I do the same for fuselage and tail. (Plus tail booms in your case) Total up and add a bit extra I case you miss something. For wing ribs you need to estimate how many you can cut from a 36x4 " sheet. Don't forget to tessellate the shapes to minimise waste! So in short, no really easy answer. But it's not that difficult either Tony! It's a nice project for a winter 's evening.
  18. Paul, I have Bolly 14.5 x 8 and 15.5 x 8 Pro Glass props if you want to try them on your 120R. They are quite substantial round the hub and blade roots so may help with flywheel effect to smooth out the idle?
  19. Looks a bit like a diesel version of this Spark ignition model?? Majesco 4.5P (4,5 cc.) (libero.it)
  20. I am putting together a Back Horse Mohawk OV-1 kit. The instructions show longish extensions from the battery to ESC. See photo of manual. I have always read that it was the ESC to motor leads that should be extended. My view is that I'll put the ESCs in the fuselage with the battery and add extension leads to the motors in the nacelles. Thoughts? Anyone got a BH Mohawk and what did you you?
  21. A fiendishly fine fashion to fettle your ferocious four stroke. The heatshrink velocity stack is an very quick way to test out the effectiveness of the idea.
  22. Was up on the roof this morning replacing a broken tile. Didn't hear your engine though!
  23. Paul, your engine's exhaust looks modified. I found these pics of a new engine and exhaust. Or perhaps yours R120 is a newer (or older) version?
