  1. One could argue that a 4 stroke requires to be turned over quicker than a 2 stroke as a 4 stroke fires every other revolution. One could also argue that a 4 stroke engine that hasn't received basic maintenance is going to be a pig to start anyway. I'd set the engine up to manufacturers specs first and then try diagnosing any electric starter issues.
  2. I recall a computing course that I went on in the early 90s. The subject turned to the internet and the idea that it was developed as a free-to-all medium that, upon censorship would have failed in its primary objective...to be free-for-all. One could argue that, if lawyers, rule makers or "Angry from Rotherham" wanted to look for ammunition against any hobby/pastime they could easily access this forum or any other to see what was 'going on' and, formulate a set of rules based on individual posts, or, by selecting those that suited their 'purpose'...it works both ways!
  3. I've had three orders from HK-UK and all have come within three working days.
  4. Posted by Nigel Hawes on 12/02/2013 14:16:49: The error was well documented at the time, and has been on this thread, so short of having the original CAD file altered for the next batch of plans printed off, I think we're pretty much stuck with this one! Nige. A note in with the plans?
  5. I used to have a 110 Land Rover with a 100watt rear work lamp over the rear door...oddly enough, judicious use of that was effective in making chavman turn his spots/fogs/main beam off when he was 18" off my tow bar.....A total of 400 watts on the front was equally effective if his mate was coming in the opposite direction! 6. Posted by Tim Mackey on 09/02/2013 10:41:39: Welcome back....has anyone mentioned insurance yet? Yes, you have I was considering BMFA membership at £32. Is that the standard?
  7. Posted by Yassa on 09/02/2013 10:38:11: Why oh Why are you looking to build. Get a RTF Foam for £100 and go and enjoy your self today. If it crashes, then the 3/4 peices it breakes into will be back to gether in no time and off you go again. Balsa is for people who have no interest in flying. They just like building. Come back to the hobby and fly. That is what it is all about. I'm looking to build because I like building! if you read my first post all of the way through you'll see that I've bought a foam cub to smash up first....I'm just looking for advice on specific models suitable as low wing trainers, i.e. controlability, vices etc. I can assure you I have an interest in both flying and building, and am not averse to trying any modelling materials. "Balsa is for people who have no interest in flying." ...To be polite, what a peculiarly naive statement...then again, I suppose most people drive cars but haven't got a clue about how they work....I spent a lot of my life in engineering....it's also my hobby and, as I've seen in so many of the threads here...it would seem I'm not alone!
  8. Thanks for all of the positive input......I'm starting to feel the need to get my Chippie plan enlarged...or a 94?....and a 94?..oh dear, I think I know where this is going to end up!
  9. DH 71 is very nice but the more staid DH 94 might be more suitable for me to start with...Hmmmm, lots of time to think about it....Tucano, DH 94 and Chippie are all in the frame then. If this wind ever drops I might get out to try the foam Cub and see if it's worth me carrying on!...Still, I love making the models anyway, when time permits and my other hobbies don't get in the way of work! Speaking of which.....
  10. Thanks for the welcome, I hope you're right Greybeard...Tx is a bit more complex than the last one I tried....but arguably much more helpful as regards trimming, aileron diff etc! A Tucano Tangental? I was hoping to build a load of De Havilland's finest...bit of a fan!
  11. Hello all, It's many years since I have flown models (apart from gliders and rubber powered freeflighters with the kids), I started in the 70s on rubber, then IC free flight, then control line and then RC. Early last year a KK Tigermoth came up on ebay so I bought it and decided to RC it with a PAW 55 and four channel control....the airframe is coming on nicely...then I had a thought! 30+ years without flying, I'm not going to risk this as a maiden. So I bought an ARTF balsa/film, 47" span 4ch Piper Cub. I set that up as I wanted to, altered a few bits, looks lovely, too lovely to crash...just yet!.....So then I went and bought a dirt cheap foam ARTF 37" span 3ch Cub that I've now got to flying condition! Oh well, I've got loads of places to fly locally with some nice soft long grass to pancake on (hopefully) and not risk lots of cash and hours of build time until I've got my confidence/skill levels back up to flying something a little more realistic! A few questions If I may, assuming I regain my mastery of the skies (!) with a highwing monoplane I'd like to go onto a low wing trainer as well. I notched up a few hours in DH Chipmunks as an air cadet and would love to build one for low wing experience. I have a plan I can adapt and was thinking of somewhere near 40"-48" span with an electric motor (forgot to mention, both Cubs are brushless and I might try brushless in the Tiggie as well). Which would be the better bet, 33" span Tiggie or 40"+ Chippie as the next bird after the Cubs? I was also thinking about modding the foam Cub eventually as a highwing twin, anybody tried it? I've got a Hitec Optic 6 2.4 Tx, an Overlander RC-6S balance charger for the Lipos......and loads of glue, balsa, tissue, and odds and ends for repair work...oh, and the one thing I didn't have when I was 17....patience! Regards, Nick.
