  1. Servo lead trapped underneath the trailing edge of the wing instead of inside the fuse?
  2. Were these; **LINK** what you were thinking about.? Rob
  3. Commendations Rob and I wish you success and would love to see a commercially viable option. Our club files from a remote farming area in Devon. The area is used extensively for military training. We regularly see low fly military aircraft. Although we are some 10 miles from the designated training area, these aircraft can come through very low and below the EASA 120m height ceiling. We have been in contact with the CAA and RAF safety groups to no avail. We would hate to be involved in an incident that involves an accident. Rob Edited By TigerOC on 13/09/2017 22:29:20
  4. And if you use a lot like I do then Everbuild Lumberjack 30 minute adhesive makes it really cheap; **LINK** Rob
  5. Just observation from that picture; unless there was something sitting under the left side of the fuselage that horizontal stabilizer is not true horizontal. The wing seat looks square. Rob
  6. Nice job there Scott. I'm sure that you will enjoy it even more than ARTF because of the love and care you have put into the build. Rob
  7. According to a Telemaster 70" plan I have the dihedral is 50mm at the wing tip. So raising the tip to this height and inserting the rid and insuring it is at right angles to the table surface should resolve this issue. if you can tack or pin  the root ribs of both wings at this angle then check that the dihedral braces matches and then glue permanently. 8. Hi Paul, There are some plans available for the MR3 on aerofred; **LINK** Not recommended as an introduction to RC flying though. You should really try to go through the process of finding and joining a club and then get assistance in learning to fly and you will find builders in the club that will help you through a build process. It would be a waste to spend so much time and effort building a beautiful ship and then reduce it to match wood in a very short flight. Regards, Rob
  9. Just looking at mine the Hextronik HXT900 from HK would fit. Rob
  10. I agree that the reference in this section is aimed at "air worthiness". I agree with your interpretation entirely and it will be interesting to see if they come out with an amendment following your communication. Rob
  11. I use Lumberjack PU to sheet foam core wings with balsa. Once the core is preped and the sheets ready to go on, apply the glue to the balsa sheets with a plastic card and then spray the foam core lightly with water. Apply the sheets to the core, then place them in the bed from which they were cut. Place them into an ordinary domestic vacuum storage bag and pull a vacuum. Leave for an hour. They are unbelievably strong. You will not separate the foam from the sheet. Rob

  13. Posted by Nick Farrow on 11/01/2017 12:52:14: Hi, Many thanks for the advice and help, some really good tips here 1) When applying it, do you overlap the tape runs, or if not how easy is it to carefully 'butt' the edges together? 2) Is there a method of reliably over painting the tape, or are you restricted to the colours available? 3) Do you pretreat the depron surface to ensure the tape does not lift/bubble (other than a quick wipe!)? 4) Are there any tapes that are fully opaque, most of ones I have see are translucent, which is not great if the edges were overlapped.? I think I might peel off the brown paper on the wings and tape them once I know what I'm doing! Gordon - I had found that drying the brown paper produce massive warps on a single 6mm sheet part, so be careful with the airframe! I also sealed it with ronseal 'diamond hard' varnish but I the brown paper just seemed to soak it up without giving a decent finish. This was when it bubbled, so I only gave it a single coat. nick Here is the routine for covering with packing tape; 1. Wipe the area with methylated spirit/isopropyl alcohol. 2. lay the tape and wipe the surface with alcohol to remove release agent. Rub over with a cloth or tissue to ensure smooth adhesion 3. overlap the previous run by about 6mm. When doing wings start at he trailing edge and work forward so the edge is with the flow and not against. All the coloured tapes provide good cover with exception of white. HobbyKing have the cheapest range of tape in the UK but alternative is: **LINK** I have used the above supplier's product extensively and it is good quality. HK tape is comparable but much cheaper. You shouldn't need to paint it with the correct planning. Would be a challenge to find a suitable type of paint as well. If you want to put patterns or shape of one colour over another, make a stencil and apply the colour over the area and then place the stencil over the colour and go around the shape gently with a scalpel and peel off the excess. 14. Personally as a prolific builder in depron I would skip the paper and use packing tape. This is the reason; Depron is closed cell and has a hardened surfaces. Covering in packing tape gives the depron quite a lot of strength. We have a club build that is used for competition and they get a LOT of abuse and are incredibly strong. If you're worried about the impact areas like the nose section line it in some 1/16 balsa on the inside which will re-enforce it. The tape method will make it even lighter and a better 3d machine. 15. I invite you to use Google Earth to visit Tete, Mozambique. **LINK** note one tar road which is the main road from Malawi to Beira. Most of your sheds would be better than the "dwellings" there. The first major super-market opened there just over a year ago. I am sure buying a big drone there is a major aspiration for the locals. The pilot drove the plane into a big object / big object reversed into plane. If he tells his boss what happened he'll get fired. So he hit a drone. If you believe this story you will believe anything.
  16. Pardon my scepticism. "On final approach to Tete it hit something." I was born and brought up in that part of the World and Tete is deep rural Africa and given the economic reality of that region it probably has not progressed much from the time Portugal abandoned it to the locals. Unless some professional group were in the area filming wildlife that was not a drone. The locals are unlikely to be able to buy a drone in that area let alone fly one. They would probably be struggling to feed themselves. This region has one of the highest bird densities in the World and there are some really big raptors and storks that inhabit this region. Plump for a bird strike. Rob
  17. Posted by Robin Colbourne on 06/01/2017 16:30:59: The latest air assets are unmanned drones flying low over the town. They have been operating at night (11pm - 1am) I presume because they do not want the public to actually see them. Typified by their whine as they increase speed. These are operating out of Newquay. Wonder when we will see them during daylight hours. Rob Rob, Maybe they're quadcopter drones smuggling drugs and hacksaw blades into the prison? about 20 miles off course if they are They sound like street sweepers but one of our members was woken by one over his home and saw it.
  18. Thank you for the link ChrisB. The training area is used primarily during the week and we hold our bigger events during weekends. I have recently installed the Drone Assist app and circulated details to members. If the information provided by the app is incorporated into live data this would obviate a great deal of incidents. Our site is about 12 miles NE of the operational training area on Dartmoor. Most low flying aircraft in our vicinity originate from Welsh bases. According to our ex-Fleet Arm Crew member local, very low flying (100 -200 ft) are doing low level navigation training as they leave the operation area. 19. Posted by ChrisB on 05/01/2017 18:36:22: If you get regular visits from military aircraft and are on a regular route you can contact the MOD and notify of your presence. There is a webpage that allows you to notify of your location. I assume your're in uncontrolled airspace? Could you elaborate on this info Chris. We have a field some 10 miles from a military training area on Dartmoor and have regular low level fly-overs. I did seek advice from the BMFA regarding a permanent notification for the summer months which was a no go. A member is ex-Fleet Air Arm and said the heli crews will probably make a note of our location. We are in uncontrolled airspace. We however have a standing rule that lone fliers stay below tree top height and more than one someone is on observation. Rob
  20. To summarise we have big corporate global companies and other assorted parastatals demanding the right to control sub-500ft air space. These are the same companies the MP's periodically jump up and down in Parliament about. You know the ones that have their HQ's in tax havens and pay no tax to the UK treasury. This whole thing is political. This is our country which most of us pay taxes to keep running. Time to take back ownership and like the rest of the subtle revolution occurring its time to make a stand with MP's. Edited By TigerOC on 22/12/2016 22:39:56
  21. Can also be caused by the position of the antenna. Usually does that in a vertical position. Put horizontal on either side it is silent. Rob
  22. There won't be any commercial drone traffic in our area because RAF/ Navy aircraft fly a huge area around us doing training support for army/marines and most of  it is sub-500ft. We have been told to move along on a slope site by marine NCO's a couple of times. Rob Edited By TigerOC on 26/11/2016 22:06:25
