  1. April 25th I’ve had plenty of flights now with the Elf, still tracking straight and does well in windy conditions. Saito 40 FS is perfect and even with a small 4 oz tank I’m getting 10 minutes with plenty to spare running on half throttle.
  2. What was wrong with all things model flying ?
  3. Maiden flight today 6th March 2024 weather fine a bit blustery. The model tracked well a little bit of toe in on the wheels so no problem. flying on low rates but not low enough so a bit skitty on elevator. Second flight with much reduced rate on elevator it was a different model and turns well on rudder doesn’t need ailerons. The Saito 40 FS is well matched in fact flying at half throttle. looking forward to flying the Elf on calm sunny days this summer. Mike
  4. I started the build on the 14th Dec 23 its not the easiest kit but enjoyable.
  5. I don't mind the nuts and bolts I've got a 1/4 scale SE5 so the Elf is a picnic. I'll report back on the ground looping. It won't be as scary as it was for the free flight aeromodellers in 1938 they were the brave ones
  6. The Elf is finished, maiden flight as soon as the weather improves
  7. Just a bit more sanding and minor jobs before I start putting the Oratex covering on
  8. More work done on the Elf this week, the bottom wing
  9. Not had much time this week on the Elf except doing more shaping on the cowl. Saito 40 fits in nicely. Onto the wings next.
  10. I’ve been working on the cowl, I want it to come off in one piece so plenty of room to get to the engine. I’m still working on the shape so it’s going to take a few more days. As you can see on the pictures I’ve got a ply plate on the back and the rest is done with sheet balsa and triangular strip.
  11. The Goldie low wing scale ish model from the 1920s flys well on my os 30 FS. Not for the prop hangers, it’s available from Sarik hobbies
  12. Bit more done on the Elf, as somebody said it’s built like a tank and I imagine no two are the same. I’ve decided to fit a Saito 40
  13. Looks great I like the colour, good idea joining the undercarriage with spacers I’m doing the 3 channel with all that dihedral and keeps it as it was back in the day
  14. Thanks I will increase the area. I’ve bent up the u/c and sewn onto the sub assembly
  15. No I’m only building one I’m hoping the powers that be take the extra ones down. It’s the 60 inch version.
  16. Just starting a Ben Buckle Elf and shall put a 30 size Four Stroke engine in. I shall put pictures on as I go.
  17. Nearly finished the Gull I’ve done it in the colour scheme of the aero plane Alex Henshaws father bought. They used it to map out the route that Alex used on his record flight to the Cape in his Mew Gull. Model is finished in Oratex white with Tamiya nato green XF67 for the lettering and the stripe. Their plane was in fact a Vega Gull but hey. I’ve some more work to do on the undercarriage but she should be flying in spring.
  18. Thanks for putting this on I’ve been looking for pictures of the cockpit. It looks like they put the passenger seats at a position that suits you when you order the gull I’ve seen bench seats at the back also for two people
