I remember my first flight with a powered FF model as clearly as if it was yesterday (it was actually 60+ years ago). I had built a Keil Kraft Halo and installed a DC Merlin in it. I was testing the motor in the garden and decided to see if the model would taxi on the lawn. I let go and to my horror it ran a short distance, took off and circled out over the main road and continued back over the house when the motor stopped. It then glided down into the garden and hit the fence and fell undamaged into the flower bed.

Thanks everyone for the responses to my question

I've been getting a lot of phone calls recently which when answered are completely silent. Each call seems to come from a different number. Anybody know what they are trying to achieve?

I would be very surprised if there is anything wrong with the replacement antenna from Ripmax. Remember that the active bit is only around one inch long (look at a receiver aerial eg a 617 Rx). All that is likely to be different with your replacement is that there is a bit less feeder in the antenna housing.

Banggood Delivery Times
Alan H replied to Tosh McCaber's topic in R/C Retailers / Distributors / Manufacturers
Ordered a brushless inrunner on 1 July and it arrived 8 days later, fastest delivery I've ever had from Banggood. -
Posted by Ace on 15/07/2020 08:51:17: Longshot, but have you tried moving further away 3-5m? which worked with my DX 9 when I experienced a binding issue with a Lemon RX. I tried going into another room but that would not be as far as 3-5m. When I get a chance I will try it down the length of the garden. I am not very hopeful this will make a difference as it had no trouble binding to a DSMX Tx but I will give it a go.

Yes the DX7 has a good Eneloop pack currently showing 10.3V on the Tx and the RF output shows a healthy reading on my 2.4GHz field strength meter. Ideally I would like to find someone with the same V3 Rx and a DSM2 only Tx, might not be a long wait! I suppose I could contact Hobbyking but I wouldn't hold out much hope of getting useful advice. I don't think the Rx is actually faulty as it works fine with DSMX transmitters. I might end up selling to a club member who uses Spektrum (plenty of them).

I've just taken a look at the Rx and it says CPPM on the back. It just occurred to me that I do actually have a DSMX Tx as I have a RTF Blade 70S heli. It bound with no problems to the Blade Tx and the 4 main channels worked servos as expected. Tried to bind with two different DSM2 Tx's and no joy. The question is whether there is a special binding technique for use with DSM2 (nothing mentioned in instructions) or is the statement on the Rx itself and in the instructions that it works with both DSM2 and DSMX incorrect.

Most of my flying is with Futaba gear but I have an original Spektrum DX7 Tx which is of course DSM2. I use this Tx with my indoor models equipped with Orange and Lemon Rx's. I have an outdoor foamie which I wanted to use with the DX7 and I bought an Orange R620X V3 Rx for it. Problem is it won't bind to it. Going through the bind procedure and standing well away from the Rx, the Rx LED flashes rapidly with the bind plug in and when you power up the Tx in bind mode the light goes out and that is it, nothing else happens. I tried binding it to a friend's DSMX Tx and it bound normally. The Rx says DSM2 and DSMX on it and this is also stated in the instructions. Has anyone else had this problem? is it really only a DSMX Rx?

That's the same size as the one that fits my old FF6.

The connector on the back of your Sanwa connector looks identical to the one on my old Futaba FF6 (which I use with Phoenix). That might help you find a suitable cable

Very fast delivery from Banggood China

Posted by Barryorbik on 11/07/2020 10:37:55: I have seen and increase in their delivery speed of late too, which seems to be linked to them charging postage now. Barry I don't mind paying the small delivery charge if it gives this sort of delivery speed. BTW no sooner had I started this thread than the postie delivered the HK stuff. -
I just did a job with brushed on Solarlac, like Stu I used cellulose thinners with no problems. Needed to be thinned quite a bit to brush smoothly.

Out of interest I used the update on the RCThoughts website to take my Phoenix sim from 5.5l to 6.0i - can't see any difference - anyone know what has changed?
-
I have been using Phoenix for several years but some of the updates made towards the end of support made it worse! Some of the flight dynamics are unrealistic and slope soaring is now silly with lift everywhere, even behind the slope. On the other hand Picasim has excellent flight dynamics and the slope soaring is very realistic. As already stated it seems to focus mainly on gliders but there are a few power models as well. I use it on a PC with a USB adapter plugged into a Tx that came with a ready to fly heli many years ago. Although it is free I made a Paypal donation in recognition of the work has been put into the project by (I assume) one guy.

Great fun, you put a smile on my face at this difficult time.

As others have said, the engine with the cropped prop is a Bunch Mighty Midget dating from around 1938 and designed by Dan Bunch in the USA. The other engine is a complete mystery to me, I suspect it is home made possibly from a published design and probably British. I've been collecting sparkies for a long time and a few of my collection can be seen on my website: vintagemodelengines.c1.biz Your Bunch is among those illustrated.

Very nice job, looking forward to your reports on the maiden. I'm sure it will fly well

I finally got around to watching this, best advert for model flying I've seen on TV, far better than the Battle of Britain program reenactment using models (Channel 4?). Well done to all concerned.
