  1. Hi Glenn. I use my DX9 as a master to a club mates DX6i. It means binding the Dx9 to the models receiver and if he wants to play around at home he rebinds his tx. So far on at least 50 flights it has worked flawlessly. If we don't want to use it this way (wireless) then the buddy lead is used, and his tx is bound to the model and the DX9 is held and used by the pupil. The first option means he uses his tx whilst I maintain control with the DX9, wirelessly. Love it !!!! Hope this helps. 2. Hi. Off to the field at 10am . No-one there but me. Flew my Extreme Flight Yak 54 twice and AcroWot Foam E three times before wind picked up. Two other members arrived and I assisted club member in getting his real Acrowot down on his first flight in gusty winds. Sterling effort by him as he was worried ! Then PM, walking our new re-homed dog Charlie round Longleat`s Heavens Gate I hot a phone call asking for assistance in maidening a Riot for one of my Friday nights heli flying colleagues. So ! Back to field after meeting up and two more flights on new Riot which flew just like my 150 flights knackered one !!! Thanks to SWMBO and Charlie (Cavalier) for waiting patiently ! Good day no crashes ! Colin
  3. Hi Erfolg. So far I find it will fly aerobatics at 55%-60% throttle and once set I can leave it alone at that setting and just fly. I can`t say it flies tail down but can eke out four and half minutes out of a 3300 4S lipo. I also agree about the tip stall but on only 5 flights am still cautious on landing. Tail wheel repaired and hoping for Tuesday being flyable down here in Somerset . My Riot will be used for an A test soon I hope. Don`t look too close as the Tamiya red acrylic comes off when you look at it !!! Colin
  4. Hi. Thought I would add a couple of pics of the Rainbow. Had 20 mins flying now and our grass strip has managed to pull the tail wheel out of the pivot as well as doing the same to my Yak 54 ! Needs a good cut and roll. Very pleased so far. Colin
  5. Hi ! Can`t help with the rx but the undercart will pull out of the foam if you try to stall it on as it did on the only time I havn`t wheeled it on landing. Glued it back with gorilla glue and it has staid together for 90 landings since ! I have sliced through half the screws to make a weak spot but not needed that on wheeler landings. Colin
  6. Hi Erfolg. Yes It`s definitely the same model with a stainless steel spar and different but useless stickers which need tape to hold down . I use Sellotape Diamond clear. I have a similar lump of lead by the motor but think I need some more downthrust as it noses down under power off but thankfully seems to land similiarly to my Riot ! For £47 plus post it seems a bargain to me and will help teach me to perfect aerobatics which is my style of flying.I think the wing retaining system is quite novel and quick to assemble as it just about fits the Merc A class of SWMBO which is now our only car ,unassembled. Got a weeks hols coming up so more testing afterwards. Colin
  7. Hi Erfolg. Hope you don`t mind me posting here but it`s the same model and seemed sensible. Just maidened the HK Rainbow F3A as the afternoon seemed ideal ! What a surprise ! Took off with bags of power vertically and needed just full down trim to level out . Stall was ok but I have kept it light as poss. Got 4 minutes out of a 3300 lipo and landed with no trouble which surprised me after reading up about the airframe. Using a Turnigy 3548 motor and servos and lipo and ESC. Changed one of the steel rods to piano wire as it was too tight in the outer and put on bigger wheels. Using a 11/5.5 prop at the mo as a 12/6 made motor too hot on tests and pulled too many amps for the motor. That's the scary first flight out of the way. More testing to follow! Colin
  8. Hi. I have the marine version in my shed still with box ! It was raced in a Racing Models Hull for three seasons and was unbeatable in the SW and Wales in the 70`s and early 80`s . I loved using it in one hour endurance races and it never ever missed a beat !! Four pint tank .Sprengbrook radio. Eventually it wore out and I went over to helicopters . Best engine I ever owned without question. Must have won 30 trophies. Even the ED carb was ok but it never got used much as racing was full bore 99% of the time. Colin
  9. Please continue Peter ! Watching and trying to take it all in. Colin
  10. Hi ! Swmbo`s friend had a squirrel which bit through the alarm wiring but the techie didn't at first recognise the problem. Then it had a litter and she heard the babies. It then fell down the chimney into her lovely white decorated living room and flew round depositing soot all over the walls, sofas, curtains, etc!!!!!!! Pest controller did the unthinkable to the babies whilst mum was out getting grub and blocked up holes. Friend had to watch her looking for her brood for days but don`t think she was caught. Bill ran into hundreds and a lotta work clearing up !! Bang Bang !! Colin
  11. Hi. Flew a Cherokee late 60`s when school chum passed his flying exam at Biggin Hill and he would let me take over ! Naughty !! Also Tiggie, Thruster, few minutes on a DH Dove,2 flights in a Rapide, then half an hour in Warrior again when I retired at Compton Abbas , Flew it from take off to touch down !! Best was the Thruster even though your life is hanging off a scaffold pole or so it seems !! Colin
  12. Hi Stevo. Had a Riot for 10 months now and approx. 120 flights. No problems with it out of the box at all and never glued wings and not found it necessary. Only one crash after trying inverted too low and airframe stood up well with all repairs made with gorilla glue. The u/c stands up well to rough field use. I hope you enjoy it ! Colin
  13. Hi all . Thought I would post a quick update on my DX9. So far about 60 flights on it including 15 or so wireless trainer flights with DX6i slave. No problems whatsoever !! Got used to the trainer pushbutton but would prefer sprung switch (wait for gtee to expire Eh !!) . So far so good and a happy bunny . Cheers Colin
  14. Hi. Yes I too would be interested. I am trying to fly aerobatics with my Acrowot foam e but can`t manage a nice spin yet as it just dives with large rudder input. Rolls ,loops inverted (very high ! ) easy enough. Nearly finished a Hobbyking Rainbow F3A which I hope will help me improve. More tips please. Colin
  15. Hello Gary and welcome . Best wishes for the maiden ! Colin
  16. Hi Skippy . Had mine for just over 2 weeks now. Range no problem so far on 2 Orange DSM2 receivers. Flew my Electraglide as far as my cataract corrected eyes can see Tuesday , and that's as far as you would want to go at our field. AR400 receiver ok in a Riot as well. Go on ! Buy one ! You know you want to ! Cheers Colin
  17. Hi all and a further little update on new tx. Had about 10 flights now on a mix of Spektrum and Orange (full range) rx`s. So far all ok and no range problems have arisen. Also tried the wireless buddy system which was straightforward to set up and rebinds as advertised when in use. Only slight niggle is you have to release sticks before pressing trainer button when using the Master system or it cylces back to instructor . More practice needed . Cheers Colin
  18. Hi all ! The last radio I bought was my Hitec Eclipse 7 which has been in service since 2000 and converted to 2.4 at Xmas . Despite all the Spektrum worries I have been impressed by the ergonomics of the DX9 as I fly fingers and thumbs so I persuaded SWMBO it was time for me to have a Xmas pressie early and splashed out !! Well, it had its first flights today on my Acrowot Foam E and I felt at home with it at once. Extremely comfortable and all switches fall easily to hand (fingers really !!) . Love the voice alerts and rubber sides which help with sweaty hands . No probs so far apart from getting to grips with the programming but I`m getting there !! Tomorrow going to try wireless binding to clubmates DX6i so we can carry on with his flying training . Fingers xd for the long term !! Colin
  19. Hi all and thanks for the very warm welcome ! I hope to be able to add some useful input in due course . Percy - I think I can beat you by about 2 years as I ordered my Flight Link Duette in 1972 from a show at Kempton Park . Its still in the shed but stopped working about 15 years ago. I remember Idris Francis throwing a receiver he had repaired but had stopped working again, down the workshop in Slough !! He of course gave me a brand new one immediately . Cheers Colin
  20. Morning all ! Been watching this forum for ages so thought it time to join up . Started flying helis in Bath in 1984 with a Morley Hughes 300 and formed Bath Model Helicopter Club with Maurice Tait from Morley shortly after. Before that boats at Clapham Common from 1969 and started multi racing with help from Alan Greenfield`s Dad George. Radios were McGregor,Climax, Flight Link .Started fixed wing a year ago in Frome, Somerset and have taught myself with an Easyglider, Riot, Parkzone Typhoon, Acrowot Foam e (love it !) .I had tinkered with a Twinstar on a field next to home but they built the hospital on it !! Now building a Hobbyking Rainbow F3A which seems superb for £47 !! Cheers Colin
