  1. I have had a rather busy last few days so lost touch with this posting. I have caught up now and cannot see for the life of me where it is going. Just mindless repetition. Sorry, all of you who still care, I don't anymore.
  2. I always charge my Lipo's as soon as I get home, to avoid forgetting and taking out an uncharged battery next time. Never had a problem so far and some batteries are about 4 years old.
  3. I despair when it comes to the 'younger pilots' who practically do not exist. I have tried letting teenagers have a fly with one of mine, general opinion it's boring. I tried letting them have the virtual experience using Pheonix, now that was much better! Much more like it, for about 15 minutes then that was boring as well. Building a model of your own, that resulted in a look of absolute disbelief, was I some sort of moronic idiot, they all had far better things to do than build a plane. Out of a class of 20, 14 year olds the interest level was a whopping zero. It just does not appeal to them. I know the place does not even exist yet but what could a NFC do to prevent our hobby dying out with us in the next 15 ish years? Edited By Steve T on 06/06/2015 12:24:18
  4. What is the point of arguing backward and forward about location if it will never be financially viable! Put it in the Shetlands or next door to the NEC...if not enough people are interested in watching/learning/the history/ sodding etc. radio control anything then it will not be worth er.....much! The only issue should be monetary, shame really as I would love it be be somewhere to encourage youngsters, (the future)
  5. Yep, agree totally with Dave H, as I have with others that feel a shared enterprise is the only sensible way to go. Saying there are 12 million people within a 62 mile radius is nonsense, what percentage of those are modellers then? How many of that 12 million have even the slightest interest in visiting a centre for radio models, let alone aviation of any form? I really would love to see even a suggestion of expected revenue, and from what! Edited By Steve T on 29/05/2015 13:45:33
  6. AP2, location has been an issue from day one of this thread. It has never mattered where the location was, the vast majority would always need to travel, there is no particular region of England which has more modellers than any other. More clubs maybe but in some areas many of us fly on our own land or anywhere allowed. Forget location, if it was a new 'wonder of the world' the people would come. It's not, it's based on flying models, some of us are struggling to even imagine a survivable income, not allowing for startup expense.
  7. Unless you buy loads of stuff, which I do, from Amazon, then stay well away. You pay £79 a year for free postage and some other download bits. I got my money back after 2 months of postage charges, but you need to buy loads of gear. I'm talking 3 to 10 things a week. There you go.
  8. So am I totally selfish? My children are grown long ago and musicians but no interest in anything aero. My Grandchildren are either musical or theatrical. So the NFC would have been for my pleasure mainly (ok selfish) but I try my best to encourage the younger ones to get off the tablet/computer/phone and into the open air, fly anything, just 'do it'! 15 years, sorry I will be way past caring, the NFC has lost me, count me out!
  9. 15 years time I could quite possibly have a very different set of ephemeral wings !!
  10. Mine is here, but not had time to open.
  11. Having tried to keep up with the regular postings on here, which now go around in never ending circles achieving and stating nothing....I can't be bothered with apathy!
  12. Beth are you going to introduce yourself to us all ? And definitely welcome ! Edited By Steve T on 17/05/2015 14:31:22
  13. Thanks Cymaz, I trailed all the way through, read every word...and thought it was excellent. Well done for finding it.
  14. Dear me, this post is becoming 'full handbags at dawn'! Any road up, if the location is A1 / A47 ish then it becomes a totally different proposition for me. But I am sure it will be the complete opposite for those from the West side (story). Still don't think it is big enough flying area etc but if it is going to happen then I will cast aside all my reservations and support as best I possibly can. And no more bitching or whining. Any chance of reading some positive responses on here? (still don't totally believe it's a financial winner but....). From here on in 'count me in'.
  15. So sad, I used to live at the end of the runway at Finningley, from my birth to 15 years old they flew over every day. I still never got tired of seeing and hearing them, loud as they where, and even hearing the wash after they had passed over Austerfield. A huge part of my 'growing up' and certainly an inspiration into the hobby. Yep, so sad! Edited By Steve T on 15/05/2015 17:43:45
  16. Haven't gone too far into the website, what sort of price are they looking at?
  17. I am so bad! I think it is awesome, don't care how illegal, I want one.
  18. Area 51 suggestion regarding shared has all the correct boxes for me. Stand alone? Afraid not!
  19. If this could attract the youth away from on-line computer gaming and into the air I would be 'over the moon' as they say. Our hobby and interest is turning into an oldies pastime, myself included. That would be such an achievement for the NFC and worth all these pages on the posting that keep repeating the same for and not quite sure.
  20. TWS, I was not implying that I would need to visit to benefit from the NFC, what I meant was if I will find it difficult to support by attending, then the same applies for many others. I have no financial constraints, sorry but that is the case, but we are not a hobby with a huge following. Attendance will eventually be the only source of income. It needs to attract through the gate and hands into pockets and wallets. What with? A souvenir copy of a vintage model? I know that sounds childish but give me an alternative that will bring people in. Cafe, everywhere has one, souvenir shop, forget it, flying time? Not really practical insurance wise for general public who have never tried before. Before anyone else thinks I am being negative, I have already offered my voluntary help as a Chartered Engineer but also as a member of I.O.S.H. (HSE) so my support could be there, if Manny asks, he has already accepted for later. It needs more than just model planes, doesn't it?
