  4. I now have a figure I needed, along with a few others. 33,000 - 35,000 modellers/pilots ! I am on the east coast, no motorway to the midlands or anywhere else, 2-1/2 hours if lucky. This will never be a place I will visit. Sorry but it is as simple as that. I know you can't please everyone but it has to be something very special to commit time and money to travel so far and to what is considerably smaller than Barkston. Oh dear!
  5. Location is such a no brainer, no matter where it is, most of us will be looking at an unacceptable journey to make it a regular visit. We are not going to the nearest field we have access to, or a local club, this has to be worth the journey. I started modelling around 1971, then there was a long gap, but I still can't see the appeal of looking at old models, I would rather build one for myself. What can this centre offer me that would make me travel and spend the money it will need to make it viable? Free flight? I can do that locally, vintage? again I would rather build from an old plan. The Nats? I used to live in Sleaford so yes they are a good weekend but exactly just that. The only thing I can think of is that it should be combined with an aviation museum, like Duxford etc. even that idea doesn't give me a vision of big income. Am I correct in thinking there are actually less modellers than there used to be? Late 60's into 70's I knew loads of young un's like myself flying our own built stuff, I don't see enough youth out there any more, the computer game had washed the grey cells totally clean. So where will the attendance come from?
  6. I am trying so hard not to be negative, but well said Dave, my thoughts exactly.
  7. Well I will throw in my twopenuth although they will need far more finance than that. I like the idea, I am not for or against, like several others I need convincing. I'm normally far too optimistic but in this case I can't get my head around how this could possibly be a financial success, hard as I try I can't find enough people, even in my imagination, with time off during the week, most are working people. Those out of work should not be able to afford to visit regularly during the week. Those of us retired tend to keep a tight grip on expenses. Well, that leaves weekends! If the vast majority only attend at weekends we then get overcrowding, can't win here. And no matter what the location is, the midlands are a 2-1/2 hour each way drive for me. No matter how successful this venture turned out to be I would probably only visit two or three times a year. Anyone have an even vague idea how many pilots we have have, BMFA members plus others around the U.K.? Aero modelling is not on the same level as fishing, football, cycling or doing the Hokey Cokey whilst drunk at a wedding. What do you think?
  8. Still following the thread, just been quiet for a week or two ! Building guitars! And waiting for your maidens before I finally attack mine.
  9. Very worrying, not good to see at all !
  10. I have now estimated my collection of hangar queens at about £500,000 if I call them art rather than models I'm trying to find time to fly. Then I can buy a real plane and get my licence.
  11. So it made a very good impression of raining hard and blowing at 18mph+ all morning, until 15:00 when I said sod it and went down the pub to meet me mates. Now at 15:50 it has stopped blowing and bright sunshine. I am convinced this is some sort of plot against me flying. Conspiracy theory's abound here. First day I have had off for 27 days. Just makes me go hmmmm!
  12. Sorry for the last post but I felt the need for a deserved rant !
  13. Sam Wragg ! I am sorry for everyone else but I agree with you totally, it's a shame we are not allowed to swear on this site but I can think of many words to use. I worked so hard all my life, now I am a little more than comfortable to say the least, but every model I have no matter how expensive I can afford and price is not really an issue....but I have never borrowed or stolen or whatever. Is it a nice feeling if everything you have was paid for by someone else? And I do dispute the word 'benefit' can anyone on this forum explain to be how you deserve this 'benefit' ?
  14. You don't have to be 'in the money' or as they used to say loaded to spend far more money than SWMBO need ever have even a hint of! I hade a mad spell in 2013 and spent just under £4000. It was my money not affecting the family at all but you know how they are, 'you spent how much?' All the planes hang from the ceiling of my workshop, I haven't bought a new model or finished a project for some time as she knows what is hanging up! Shame really as there is another £2000 worth unfinished and semi hiding!
  15. Can't wait for this, the mossie has been on my wish list for an eternity!
  16. Sorry to sound like an echo, but I only use PayPal for any overseas transaction.
  17. Alter the spelling slightly then !
  18. I now what you mean ED, I'm in total argument with you where spoil chickens are concerned! Edited By Steve T on 29/04/2015 13:31:41 Edited By Steve T on 29/04/2015 13:32:22
  19. Cor dear me, my old DX6i has been a great piece of kit, running 6 models and never missed a beat. I am going to upgrade to DX6 but purely 'cos I can but I will not get rid of the old TX, as long as you do not need more than 5 channels them you don't need any thing else, why would I buy a 12ch or whatever if I'm flying a 4ch cub?
  20. I've been disposing of all my old AA and AAA batteries, I'm gutted! If I had put them on EBay some cretin would have bought them. I could have been rich and famous by now!
  21. Got my box set of Thunderbirds on Saturday, I've watched the first three episode, Fireflash is still awesome. Also managed to see a new episode on ITV player, .....oh dear. I must be getting old, the strings are part of the magic. CGI does not work. Love the Stargate though, definitely Team America! The first TV programme I can remember was Torchy the Battery Boy, didn't he have a dog who's stuffing kept coming out and floating off into space....or something?
  22. Shame though, never mind a DX6 may have far less channels but I suppose I will be a little more confident with Spektrum, no problems with any of mine so far, and I did have a FRSky that wouldn't bind with it's own rx so replaced the lot with Speky gear.
  23. Just been on FRSky site for a better look, you are right, I stand corrected, this looks a neat piece of kit now I can see it properly, colour shouldn't matter....but it looks much better in black. Question please, anyone have an idea how compatible it will be with other makers RX, like Spektrum? Edited By Steve T on 27/04/2015 13:25:07
  24. I still didn't know how to spell mould, did it!
  25. I ordered a part for a heli with camera, just a small part but important as this is the only one I have managed to fly successfully. After a month they realised they had forgotten to order it. 1 month later...'er we are not sure why it's not in yet'. 1 month later, still not there. So on the phone to Steve Webb and received a couple of days later. I have stopped using the model shop, simply a waste of time unless it's artf in a box! How much longer for most of these waste of time model shops ?
