  1. Tim, a nice simple light model of that Elf wont design itself you know... Chop Chop.
  2. Did you ever build the Reaper? I have one currently on a Wren supersport. The build is really straightforward. I added all moving canards which arent really needed but work very well as airbrakes. This is an older design but well developed. It flies very well and the slow speed handling is excellent. If you need any info just shout, oh, and post some pics! Scott
  3. Funny you mention that, its something Ive already noticed with the Lenovo, it doesnt seem to get hot at all, not even warm. My previous laptops all got pretty warm, especially if they were sat on your lap! The Lenovo is pretty chunky, probably the heaviest laptop Ive ever had but it feels really well made, no flex in it at all. Ive had the sim on it for 2 hours straight and it performed well, no stuttering or freezing and it stayed cool. Couldnt ask for more, especially at the price. Thanks again for everyones input! Scott
  4. Thanks for everyones input with this. I tried cleaning up the fan and heatsink on the Toshiba without making much difference. Once it powers up its time to go make a cup of tea before its ready for use, and still wont run RF7.5 for more than 5 minutes. I found out a guy from work has a Lenovo T430 of a similar spec to what I was considering so I borrowed it to try, its amazing! The SSD makes a massive difference and it turns out it can run RF7.5 without any problems at all. On the back of this I ordered a refurbed one from Amazon for £350, it arrived next day (Amazon Prime is great!). *gb ram, 256GB SSD drive and it does have a graphics card, (forget the name) but its only a tiddler. Starts up in about 6 seconds ready to use. The downsides are the track pad will take some getting used to, and its a bit small at 14" but makes it easy to get in the bag for going offshore... Scott.
  5. Im in need of a laptop upgrade, my Toshiba sattelite will run 7.5 but gets hot and turns itself off after about 10 minutes once it keels over due to heat exhaustion... Im not very clued up on Laptops but I was thinking about buying a Lenovo T430 with 8GB of ram, the i5 processor and a 256 GB SSD drive. Im hoping the extra processor speed will compensate for the lack of a dedicated graphics card. Anyone have any idea if this will cope with realflight 7.5 without cooking itself? Scott.
  6. Nice to know it flies well, bit of a shame about the U/C though. Seems to be a common issue across all ARTF's, you'd think the manufacturers would have learned by now? Especially as its not exactly a cheap model. You haven't put me off though, might still get one for myself. Scott.
  7. Im awaiting delivery of a used Behotec J66, it will be my first model turbine. Its full auto start but still gas. Im planning to run this on Diesel and Aeroshell 500 oil. Has anyone here had any experience with these engines? I realise its a bit different from the usual Jetcat/Wren offerings. The model its going in is a Mick Reeves Super Reaper, hope my strip is long enough! Scott.
  8. Thats a nice looking mode, and different from the usual Chippys! Has it had a flight yet? Scott.
  9. Nice solution to the rear cockpit issue with the folding wings, very neat! How would you feel about showing us mere mortals how you make the engine cylinders? The look very convincing. Get some covering on it, this isn't a nudist camp you know...
  10. Thanks for the replies everyone! The solarlac paint codes seem very confusing, I'd probably get it wrong and have to buy 2 tins, a very expensive cowling. I trotted along to B&Q, got a tester pot of Valspar mixed up to match the tex. 250ml for £3, can't complain! I'll post a pic when it's painted to see how good the match it. Scott.
  11. Having just covered and applied the decals to the fuselage of my Tigermoth, I've discovered I've made a bit of a faux pas. I need to paint the cowl. Now what I should have done was paint the fuselage and cowl together but in my rush to progress my pile of stick to an aeroplane shape I go carried away... Anyone know if there's a suitable paint match available for red solartex? Red being a perticularly hard colour to match. I'm hoping to not have to peel the decals off and paint the whole lot! Scott.
  12. Looks lovely! That's a mighty amount of progress, you build quick these days! Got a plan for the rear cockpit glazing? That could be tricky... Scott.
  13. You build at some speed these days! How do you solder the brass p clips to the piano wire? I presume you use soft solder? I have bother getting it to flow all around the joint.
  14. Very neat work as always! That nose looks like a geometry nightmare, you make it look easy...
  15. Well those turned out well didn't they! You have the imagination and foresight for these things that normal people don't have, life isn't fair! Well done sir, now stop messing with pram wheels and crack on. Scott.
