2016 RCM&E Autumn Special- Free Plan Modellers Choice
Steven S replied to Tony Nijhuis's topic in Tony Nijhuis plan builders
I had just watched the movie "The Wind Rises" when I voted and so I listed the Zero as one of my choices also, looking forward to the magazine. 66" or under and electric powered would be my choice. Edited By Steven Shaw on 15/02/2016 13:34:45 -
Phil - I live in Canada, but upon checking I found that this Chipmunk was built by De Havilland Canada and ended up in The Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warren, Bedfordshire, England since 2000. I see that it flew in their airshow in 2013. Edited By Steven Shaw on 15/02/2016 05:00:52

Not what you were looking for, but this is the RCAF Royal Ensign used from 1941 - 1968. Edited By Steven Shaw on 14/02/2016 20:10:51

The flag that Jim Pucha shows is the official Canadian Red Ensign used from 1922 - 1957.

Thanks Robin - with a little quick research I believe you're right. It was a Canadian plane from 1946 until 1962.

Nice paint/covering scheme, what does the underside look like?

I enjoyed my years as an air cadet with 177 squadron in Winnipeg [Canada]. Went to Sea Island one summer in a Lockheed Hercules C130. I remember the water dripping onto us as we flew over the mountains, sitting along the walls in webbed seats. I don't know what type of plane we are in front of, not the Herc, that's for sure.

Capter One (Project X)
Steven S replied to Ron Harrison's topic in Building from Traditional Kits and Plans
Actually it's in the November 2015 magazine. -
Sikaflex is used in farm tractors also. I worked for Ford-New Holland and then Fiat Agri and we used a fair bit of it on our cab production lines. Edited By Steven Shaw on 09/02/2016 20:32:27

I don’t believe there is a renewal process. I am a digital only subscriber and it took me over 2 months and several emails to get back onto the subscriber list. There is no place in the online system where I could enter my subscription number and when everything was finally sorted I ended up with a new subscriber number. It was a most frustrating experience.

I also have been following this build from the beginning. It’s a good looking plane that I’ll be interested in building once the plans are available. Already I’m incorporating a couple of its’ features into my current build.

John's Ballerina Build

I mounted the cowl for my volksplane with rare earth magnets. Works quite well. -
I've not been able to find it in my LMSs. We have "Foam Board" which has a heavy paper layer on each side. Edited By Steven Shaw on 01/02/2016 22:46:39

Hi - I'm a new balsa builder in Canada and haven't tried Depron yet, but am following all the Ballerina builds with interest, including the non standard ones like yours. I'm learning a lot from all of them, but don't really have much input as I've just finished my first plane and am half way through my second.

Please - carry on, I'm still very interested.

snakes - lubrication?
Steven S replied to Tony Harrison 2's topic in Model Engineering and Accessories
I would use a dry lubricant, such as "extra fine graphite", it works well on scooter/motorcycle cables and since it's dry it doesn't attract dirt. I've rubbed some on my inner snake cables and noticed an improvement. -
I have a very small shop [5'-6" x 6'-6"] so a Dremel scroll saw and a Proxxon table saw for me. Actualy they call it a Moto saw
