  1. Well done on this one tony it looks great, all your models look good!! Im thinking about doing the tn hurricane, shal I buy the laser cut pack for it or cut the bits myself? I do have a band and scroll saws. Cheers woody
  2. I will be watching, my tony nijhuis 46" spit is at the covering stage, really should get it finished. woody
  3. Hi Neil unhook the spring on the throttle link before you connect the throttle to a servo as this will burn out the the throttle servo. 50: 1 is a bit of a low oil content to run an engine in on really 25 or 30:1 is usually the norm. As said before you should be able to get an idle of around 1850 but if you can't get it just fly the plane it will get better with time. To stop it pulling forward on idle just nip up the wheel collets so the wheels are binding this will help, and make sure you have a throttle kill switch set up on your transmitter. Cheers woody.
  4. I have the goldwing sbach with a jc 30 evo and it flys really well plenty of power, make sure you get the cg right because they are short you may need some weight up front! Cheers woody.

    New to petrol

Get some Sullivan petrol tube it's nice and flexible. Woody.
  6. I have a v2 which I bought from Hong Kong a couple of years ago I fitted in my Funtana s90 and it was brilliant, it would start very easily by hand and had plenty of power to hover that lightweight airframe. however a friend of mine had the same one but had a lot of problems with his, exactly as engine doctor says the crank pin scored the back plate, he sorted it in the end as the parts are also cheap. i still have mine and would buy another one if needed, I don't have any experience of the v1 but do like the idea of the bearing at the back of the crank. I would get one from Hong Kong as retailers over here want silly money for a cheaply built engine. Cheers woody.
  7. There ok it does depend on what your planning to put them in. It's the 995's you need to stay away from! the 996 is better but not always perfect I've had some that don't Center exactly, and some that have been fine. On the whole not a bad servo for the price. Cheers woody.
  8. fly boy3 I have shed loads of the white wing bands pm me your address and i will post you some 8" bands foc unless your in bristol and want to pop round and pick them up!! cheers woody

  10. I'm watching wolston! Im home from work as I broke my leg a couple of weeks ago! your build looks great I might build the tucano after I finish my nijhuis spitfire, the pain has just settled enough for me to get on with it!! Cheers woody
  11. Thanks Adrian, I've been flying artf's for years, but this building business is new to me! very enjoyable though!
  12. Hi, This may seem like a silly question, I am currently building a tony nijhuis 46" spitfire, and have just joined the wings together. I have purchased a wing joining kit which is two small bottles of epoxy and a strip of glass cloth. My question is do I wrap the cloth/bandage around the the top and bottom of the wing or do I apply it to just the top or just the bottom? Regards Woody.
  13. Hi Adrian those mvvs engines are good from what I've seen. I would imagine that thoes ignition curves would be for different power outputs depending on the type of model you are flying and prop size required. Short being smaller props and faster revving and long being larger props. Puffin models sell mvvs perhaps give them a call. But I suspect you will hardly notice the difference between the two settings. I have a 3w55i this does not have any settings it's just plug and play. Cheers woody.
  14. Hi guys im not aware of any publications purely on gas engines, you will find you will get all the info you need on here just ask away, I fly mainly petrols so will help where I can. Eamonn, aluminium tube will be ok for petrol. Cheers woody.
  15. Most of the time I fly my goldwing 30cc sbach, but I also love to fly warbirds too. Regards woody

make sure th throttle is closed, then put the choke on and it will latch on the throttle linkage, then as soon as you move the throttle it will click off. i hope this makes sense! cheers woody.
  17. I am building a tony nijhuis 46" spitfire thats what the paint is for, i am covering it with deluxe materials eze cote and lightweight glass cloth then i was going to airbrush the paint on do you think this will be ok? also would you be able to supply me some paint masks for the roundels as i want to airbrush these on also? Thanks again Tim Woody.
  18. Tim I've just been down to hombase and they mixed me up pru blue from the paint code you gave me it looks spot on, £3.28 for 250ml thanks again! Woody
  19. Hi Tim I think that that will look great when done, quick question, can hombase mix any colours? If I took a tin of humbrol pru blue to them, could they copy it in emulsion? Cheers woody
  20. Hi Martyn Most car spares shops sell sheets of gasket paper, which will work well. cheers Woody.
  21. Hi mike can I ask will you be using humbrol enamels? If so do you know the number of the colour blue you want to use, I'm thinking if painting my tony nijhuis 46" spit in this scheme. Sorry a bit off topic! Cheers Woody.
  22. Make sure you have plenty of power and make sure your control surfaces have plenty of movement but lots of expo as Brian rightly says when you get it stable in the hover you will need very small movements to keep it there, but if it falls out you will need lots of movement to get out of trouble if your low down, as you have no air speed so you are relying on prop wash over the surfaces. You will also find that when you do master it, the plane wants to roll to the left ( torque roll) so you will find you will need to keep putting right aileron in or sometimes holding it in to stop this. Above all practice all the time, I learnt to hover on depron shock fliers these are great to learn on and I think the easiest to hover of any aircraft, also they are cheap and easy to overpower with cheap motors. Have fun Woody.
  23. I always shape my wings after gluing all the parts together I've built a few of tony nijhuis designs and this is how he says to do it. But I do see what Martin is saying and it doesn't sound a bad idea.  The glue I use to join wing parts is titebond wood glue.  Cheers woody   Edited By woody on 06/01/2013 20:34:04
  24. I would use the aliphatic and fill any gaps with cheap light weight filler but its up to you, ive not really had much experience with gorilla glue but I know others that use it. Woody.
  25. Wolston, When you stick the panels together Sellotape the join on one side, so it's like a hinge then turn your panel over and run your glue in between the parts then put it down on a flat surface and wipe the excess away, pop a weight on top to keep it flat and leave to dry, when done just peel the tape off and you have a nice clean join. This also stops it sticking to the surface you leave it on.   (You may already know this!)   Gorilla glue will be ok, I use pva and any gaps left I fill with light weight filler before sanding.  Cheers woody      Edited By woody on 06/01/2013 17:40:41
