  1. Good catch, apologies for posting the incorrect link. However it doesn't change the fact that the accounts do remain a matter of public record, so password protecting them seems somewhat unnecessary. The 'Statutory Accounts' that must be sent to Companies House and must follow a prescribed format and must contain certain information and that is what is made available to download from the CH website and viewable by anyone. - They DO NOT have the proposed budget, nor the membership numbers, nor the reporting on financial turnout against the previous budget/years, nor the various reports by officers of the BMFA etc etc - which is what was being protected by the password. So the 'fact' you refer to is not correct as they are different - not in the financial outcome etc. but in what they contain. In addition; those AGM accounts/budgets/documents/proposals were until adopted or approved at the AGM are just proposals - even the accounts - so what you were displaying to the forum at large could well have been changed, amended or even rejected at the AGM. Which is why password protecting them was 'necessary' to prevent possibly inaccurate information being bandied about. The rest of the documents to which you refer to (handbooks, minutes etc) that are available to the public for viewing via the BMFA website, have been approved by the various committee(s) or BMFA officers for publication. Which as they are the copyright holder(s) they are entitled to do so. Hopefully that will help you become less confused? The approved accounts and other documents will no doubt be made available to the BMFA membership in due course - perhaps in the next BMFA news. Which by the way is probably 10 months in advance of the 'Statutory Accounts' appearing on the Companies House website as 'the public record'.
  2. It would seem that people have a poor understanding of copyright law. Copyright refers to the legal right of the owner of intellectual property (in this instance the BMFA is the owner). In simpler terms, copyright is the right to copy. This means that the original creators of the item or work and anyone they give authorization to are the only ones with the exclusive right to reproduce the work. If you did not create it, the work is not yours to use freely, even if there is no copyright symbol. Copyright does not need to be applied for, it applies automatically. The fact that the BMFA required you as a member to get a password to access the documents - including the budget document (the document copyright belongs to the BMFA) would seem to be an obvious indicator that it was for the eyes of BMFA members only. That would also indicate that it could not be used under the copyright 'fair use' reason. If people do not wish to click on a link then that is their problem, but is not a reason to ignore the forum's code of conduct. Just because someone does not see a clear reason for something does not excuse them from following the code of conduct or copyright law. Edited By Christopher Long 1 on 16/11/2020 16:37:00
  3. Here's a thought (as a member of the BMFA), I wonder why a person or persons feels it is their 'right' to publish extracts of documents and to copy and publish other text from an organisation to persons who are not paid up members of that organisation, unless of course they KNOW that everyone on this forum is without exception a paid up member of the BMFA or that person has asked for and obtained permission from the BMFA to do so? Hence the requirement for a password to access those documents?   By the way it also infringes this forums Terms of Use - Copying material between this and other sites. Always use a link if referring to modelflying.co.uk from other websites. Do not copy material from other sites to Modelflying unless you own the copyright.   Edited By Christopher Long 1 on 16/11/2020 14:23:46 Edited By Christopher Long 1 on 16/11/2020 14:24:42
  4. From my experience of running surveys and email/social marketing campaigns anything over a 15% response for surveys and over 5% for email/social media campaigns would be considered a very successful result. So nearly 35% or over 10,000 replies to a survey is a great success. So no not a disengaged membership, in fact the reverse! It will be more than enough to give the BMFA a good idea of what members think and it will also give them some solid evidence on which to base future negotiations with the CAA etc.
  5. Thanks David, I noticed it arrived yesterday, normally the digital version beats the print one arriving by up to a week - which why I asked about it. Chris
  6. Hi, I have a subscription for both the digital and print versions of the magazine, so I was surprised to get my printed October edition, without getting the digital version first. I have just checked my Pocket Mags page and the October edition is not there. Can this be sorted ASAP as I use both versions - which why I subscribe for both. Chris
  7. Count me in - I never win anything either....... but you have to be in it to win it!
  8. Dens Model Supplies does a lot of CL stuff - **LINK** as well as Cox engines and spares. I have no connection with them apart from being a customer.
  9. How about the Vintage Model Company **LINK** lots of balsa models to choose from to build. All traditional balsa builds.
  10. Tim and Simon, Here is the information you need (the exemptions don't just concern registration if you are a member one of 4 organisations - of which the BMFA is one). Easy to find if you go to the home page of the BMFA and click on the very obvious link! **LINK** All you need to do is download and save to your phone or print and carry with you along with the other exemptions. I do wish people would check before replying in forums airing their ignorance and spreading confusion.
  11. Hi Tim, It goes around the bottom of the rudder where the tail wheel slots onto it. I guess it is used to add a little more strength in that area. The hole lines up with the hole on the tail wheel assembly. Hope that helps. Chris
  12. I understand that Westwings kits have been licensed for production by the Vintage Model Company and are due to be phased in starting in the first half of this year.
  13. May I suggest that both of you either read the BMFA news or go to the BMFA website(s) as they both explain why if you have paid your CAA operator ID fee via your club/BMFA you are wrong, especially about the legality of flying until the CAA registration number is issued. That way you will have the correct information!
