  1. It would seem that people have a poor understanding of copyright law. Copyright refers to the legal right of the owner of intellectual property (in this instance the BMFA is the owner). In simpler terms, copyright is the right to copy. This means that the original creators of the item or work and anyone they give authorization to are the only ones with the exclusive right to reproduce the work. If you did not create it, the work is not yours to use freely, even if there is no copyright symbol. Copyright does not need to be applied for, it applies automatically. The fact that the BMFA required you as a member to get a password to access the documents - including the budget document (the document copyright belongs to the BMFA) would seem to be an obvious indicator that it was for the eyes of BMFA members only. That would also indicate that it could not be used under the copyright 'fair use' reason. If people do not wish to click on a link then that is their problem, but is not a reason to ignore the forum's code of conduct. Just because someone does not see a clear reason for something does not excuse them from following the code of conduct or copyright law. Edited By Christopher Long 1 on 16/11/2020 16:37:00
  2. Here's a thought (as a member of the BMFA), I wonder why a person or persons feels it is their 'right' to publish extracts of documents and to copy and publish other text from an organisation to persons who are not paid up members of that organisation, unless of course they KNOW that everyone on this forum is without exception a paid up member of the BMFA or that person has asked for and obtained permission from the BMFA to do so? Hence the requirement for a password to access those documents?   By the way it also infringes this forums Terms of Use - Copying material between this and other sites. Always use a link if referring to modelflying.co.uk from other websites. Do not copy material from other sites to Modelflying unless you own the copyright.   Edited By Christopher Long 1 on 16/11/2020 14:23:46 Edited By Christopher Long 1 on 16/11/2020 14:24:42
  3. From my experience of running surveys and email/social marketing campaigns anything over a 15% response for surveys and over 5% for email/social media campaigns would be considered a very successful result. So nearly 35% or over 10,000 replies to a survey is a great success. So no not a disengaged membership, in fact the reverse! It will be more than enough to give the BMFA a good idea of what members think and it will also give them some solid evidence on which to base future negotiations with the CAA etc.
  4. Thanks David, I noticed it arrived yesterday, normally the digital version beats the print one arriving by up to a week - which why I asked about it. Chris
  5. Hi, I have a subscription for both the digital and print versions of the magazine, so I was surprised to get my printed October edition, without getting the digital version first. I have just checked my Pocket Mags page and the October edition is not there. Can this be sorted ASAP as I use both versions - which why I subscribe for both. Chris
  6. Count me in - I never win anything either....... but you have to be in it to win it!
  7. Dens Model Supplies does a lot of CL stuff - **LINK** as well as Cox engines and spares. I have no connection with them apart from being a customer.
  8. How about the Vintage Model Company **LINK** lots of balsa models to choose from to build. All traditional balsa builds.
  9. Tim and Simon, Here is the information you need (the exemptions don't just concern registration if you are a member one of 4 organisations - of which the BMFA is one). Easy to find if you go to the home page of the BMFA and click on the very obvious link! **LINK** All you need to do is download and save to your phone or print and carry with you along with the other exemptions. I do wish people would check before replying in forums airing their ignorance and spreading confusion.
  10. Hi Tim, It goes around the bottom of the rudder where the tail wheel slots onto it. I guess it is used to add a little more strength in that area. The hole lines up with the hole on the tail wheel assembly. Hope that helps. Chris
  11. I understand that Westwings kits have been licensed for production by the Vintage Model Company and are due to be phased in starting in the first half of this year.
  12. May I suggest that both of you either read the BMFA news or go to the BMFA website(s) as they both explain why if you have paid your CAA operator ID fee via your club/BMFA you are wrong, especially about the legality of flying until the CAA registration number is issued. That way you will have the correct information!
  13. There is 4 page article in the latest November 19 edition of AeroModeller on Depron written by Steve Midson, it says that white Depron in any thickness is no longer manufactured. Only grey (known as black) is now made in 3mm and 6mm (nominal)thicknesses for insulation. He describes how he produces thinner thicknesses using a jig and hot wire along with a lot more information.
  14. Why not export or save the drawing in .dxf ? - most laser cutter services will accept .dxf files (well all of the ones I have used). Chris
  15. My Sabre had its maiden on Monday, built using the originally specified AEO unit, and as designed by Tony, it flew like a dream. A fellow club member who has a lot of experience with EDF did the first flight and trimmed it and he said it flew really well with plenty of power in reserve and loved it! Really pleased with it, but I did have to put in a lot of work on the supplied kit as the wood sizes supplied differed from the plan and the cut slots in the plywood formers! For instance the fuselage square stringers are specified as 4.5mm on the plan and the formers are cut to that size, but the wood supplied was I guess meant to be 3/16th sq (4.76 mm) but was 5mm square (nearly 15% bigger than specified)! The same could be said of the specified 4.5mm sheet which was again 5mm thick. I know a little variation in size is to be expected, but this was the worst I have experienced from a supplied kit. At most I would expect a 5-6% variation especially when it needs to fit into accurate pre-cut formers. For the pilot I used Real Model Pilots who do a military version which is just about right at 1/16th scale (the Sabre model is about 1/17th). Despite the problems I am looking forward to building another EDF (this was my first) from Tony.
  16. West Wings have closed due I think to retirement, but I understand that the kits will made available again soon via another manufacturer in the UK.
  17. Hi Beth, Got my airbrush prize yesterday, very pleased as I never win competitions (well up to now!!). Chris Long
  18. I just looked on www.heritageabrasives.co.uk, but the finest 125mm self adhesive discs they did were 320 grit (unless I was looking in the wrong place) - which is finer than 240, but I am looking for 400 grit.
  19. Hi, The print edition of December RCM&E has arrived in post (great), but the digital version (which is usually available on Pocketmags before the print copy arrives) is missing. Please can you get this sorted ASAP? I do subscribe to get both versions. Thanks Chris PS. I have also contacted Pocketmags - but they are usually slow to reply if they bother at all!!
  20. To save frustration, the company BECC that Tony used for the decals WILL NOT sell directly to the public, so you have to use one of their stockists - which I have found don't stock all of what appears on the BECC website! I shall be making my own.
  21. Thanks Alan for the correction, not made clear on the LMA website - post corrected!
