  1. A very interesting discussion and one that needs a lot of attention. I’m linking in on trimming guidelines used by the aerobatic folks **LINK** S
  2. I used to collect all balsa dust and use it to mix into a filler but find I am sensitive to the dust and now use a mask (twin canister “ Force 8” ) both when sanding and when cleaning up. I also clean up the bench with every piece I sand and vacuum the entire garage as often as I can. I’ve also found that I can sand with an orbital sander with a dust collection system that cuts down some of the dust that can fly around.  All depends on what needs sanding.   Edited By Stuart Z on 14/12/2018 21:57:16
  3. I think RCME are testing one of these and will report back in the mag according to the last mag I saw. S
  4. Erfolg The roller I am looking for is for consolidation, rather than to act as either a mop or applicator. This sort of thing perhaps? **LINK**
  5. Just to add a supplier I find very useful and helpful when you call, Bucks Composites, with lots of useful guides as well as tools to help you do a good job. **LINK** I have limited experience in the world of resins but find Bucks site very helpful and have helped me progress with jobs I have no experience of. S
  6. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 07/12/2018 14:25:14: I just came back from the Friday shopping to a pile of mail on the doormat, included in which was the new BMFA mag. The curious part is that I got not one, not two but three virginal copies, all addressed to me and alll marked with the correct BMFA membership number. I know it's Christmas, but really? Three copies? Edited By Bob Cotsford on 07/12/2018 14:25:57 And I got two! Like Bob’s with matching data on the envelope. (And are BMFA going to stop using plastic “envelopes” ) S Edited By Stuart Z on 07/12/2018 15:40:11
  7. Hi Has anyone taken out a separate policy, if it can be found ? S
  8. Sounds like money laundering to me. S
  9. I use a Force 8 half mask. Good range of filters available. **LINK** For example filters- **LINK** Of course others suppliers as well S
  10. Posted by Martyn K on 29/11/2018 11:19:02: New link from the BMFA. Nice detailed instructions BMFA Bulletin Regards Martyn Martyn Thanks for this, it appears to make clear that I am not permitted to remain a Country member if I belong also to any club. Not sure why this should be, but it appears that is what BMFA are making happen. Not heard from BMFA but it does seem to be the case. S
  11. Hi I guess I’m lucky having excellent broadband so can only speak of my experience. The process was very fast, surprised me how quick it was. At last a system that did most of what I expected. I was however slightly surprised to find that I am apparently now affiliated through one of the clubs I belong to when in fact I had stayed a Country member to not give preference to one club. Did I do something wrong? For info, I taped my “membership card” inside my old one this time but suspect that next year I”ll laminate it. BTW you can get ‘cold seal’ laminate pouches which may be an option, both routes at a cost though, albeit not great. I would like to know about the affiliation though so I can correct matters. Or is the BMFA not allowing me to stay a country member? Confused! S
  12. Thanks for the input folks, I’ll take a look see what’s out there. I generally only use 2S & 3S cells but want to be able take along 4 to 6 cells at a time, charging only at 1C so higher watts and a balance board seems to be the way to go. S
  13. Hi I have a pair of B6/AC 80w chargers. Have been fine for 2-3 years, now the menu’s have a mind of their own and don’t offer a balance lipo option. Clearly weird and undesirable! I don’t have a huge demand on electrics as I prefer IC. However now we are heading into the cooler season electric models, for me, become more desirable. I’m looking to get a new quality charger that might be steady and safe over the next several years and wondering what you folks use and rely on? Any practical suggestions welcome. Many thanks S
  14. Thanks Denis, Probably best to wait until I get the new PC then I”ll give it a try later in the week. S
  15. Thanks Frank. I’ll have a fiddle around tomorrow. I’m looking to buy a new PC in the next few days so a search around now would be good. If I have to buy a new sim, well at least the winter is coming so I’ll get some use out of it! Rather not if I can as I can buy a new TX / 3 RX for similar money! Wish they’d packed it in something larger than a DVD box!!! S
  16. Thanks Percy, I’ll look into it. Being a Futaba user can be a challenge with some things , BNF etc, let me have a look see. S
  17. Kevin, If they still exist. As no-one sells the software now. It doesn’t’t use a dongle as such. Not sure how to convince Phoenix I’m just “relocating” the software! Any suggestions welcome. The previous computer died and took the software with it. S Edited By Stuart Z on 14/10/2018 19:38:07
  18. Thanks Denis, I do hope I can, trying to figure where to look next. S
  19. Hi, Resurrecting this thread! I’ve just changed computers and guess what, I can’t find my Phoenix disc!!! What is the current thinking on flight sims? Is there a preferred version? Is there one that enables an experienced flyer to develop, not just a “circuit and bumps” version” that works on Win 10? S
  20. Hi John, Some research into set up of a model glider **LINK** Of particular interest the section oh aileron differential set up. Another article that gives a similar perspective **LINK** At least a starting point to use anyway. If anyone else can add anything? Who knows, if I get this right I might get into gliders more? S
  21. Thanks John, I’m sorry to hear of your problems, hopefully some good suggestions will be forthcoming. I’ve seen the videos of it flying well so there must be a “right way” to set it up. S
  22. Hi Gary, As you say, not a good choice if you’ve not flown before. Lot’s of advice will be forthcoming including a) have you joined a club? b) check with club on type of radio to see if they can “buddy box” to help you c) might be best to look at an rtf trainer whilst you work on the Fokker D7. Good luck! S
  23. Posted by Chris Hall 4 on 19/06/2018 18:05:26: I have been flying an Alpine 1200 for some time - an excellent flyer! However, the aileron travel as given in the guide results in severe control problems. The down going aileron cause inverse yaw due to the increased drag. I have set mine with considerable differential far more up than down! This has resulted in a far better flying model. Hi Chris I’be just bought one of these. Any recommendations on the amount of travel you’ve used in your diffential set up? The manual talks about 6mm either way. Sounds like I might be looking at 9mm up & 3mm down? Is that the sort of figures you used? Thanks in advance - and if anyone else can make recommendations before I start I’d be glad to hear them. S Edited By Stuart Z on 12/10/2018 14:34:56
