  1. A year or so back, I visited Paul Heckles and his R/C flight school near Swindon. Whilst there, a team from Southampton University arrived with a selection of UAV drones they were testing and evaluating. The venture supplying the IOW using a drone suggests their efforts are now bearing fruit.
  2. For insomniacs among us, take a look at Flightradar24 tracking app during the early hours after midnight and you will often see a drone regularly operating out of Lydd. This craft then flies over the English Channel for several hours. It's a twin engine AR5 machine reg G-TEKV operated by Tekever. Other details on the net describe its operation with videos too.
  3. SLEC sell (or did?) Plan Protector - Pack of large sheets last an age. Before the current situation, Waitrose 'vegetable/fruit' bags were a great free source after their content had been removed! (The plastic has a 'greasy' feel to it and repels most if not all adhesives). Film backing was never fully successful for me, ended up picking bits of plastic off anywhere glue found a way out.
  4. Memories ... I built one of these beauties. At the time, just finding an adhesive which would stick the fuselage halves together sufficiently strongly posed a problem. No doubt modern adhesives are now fully capable of achieving a robust bond. Mine needed a hefty, but good quality launch to get it aloft, (OS 25FSR powered) but once the prop got on its 'step', the craft fare motored around the sky just like the original full-size probably did. Good luck, enjoy!
  5. Mmm ... Royal Pro 9 v Cockpit 9 ... (I have both). I expect our resident MPX expert Frank will give a more detailed and knowledgeable reply, but as a quick response from a general user, I don't find the 'Cockpit' quite as extensive. Being honest, how many (if not most?) general sports flyers use the fullest capabilities of any computer radio(?) they own. The gimbals are angled on the 'Cockpit' but do not swivel adjust like the 'Royal' does. The 'Cockpit' is still a highly capable set once you get the logic behind it!
  6. To illustrate my original first post, here are the plastic (polypropylene?) pin clamps. The little black plastic discs slide onto most size of pin and due the nature of the plastic, they clamp in the position you set them. The Peck wooden ones, I'd be cautious they didn't stick to the balsa if any stray glue came into contact with them. (Glue does not stick to the plastic one at all!). Also attached, a selection of pins I've accumulated down the years. The 'Aeronaut' ones are currently available.
  7. Building a Phoenix Model Products sport scale 'Chipmunk'. Would like to add service serial numbers using inkjet vinyl decals. Can anyone advise what font style is used for these circa 1970s? Also is there a web page with these on I could use to scale to size to fit the model? Many thanks.
  8. Big Thanks to Stan Yeo at Phoenix Model Products (PMP). Superb service as always even in these difficult times. Well done Stan!
  9. For anyone wishing a little light relief radio listening and a break from the current sadness reported in the news, may I recommend internet radio. As most of our community here are of a mature age, you will likely have grown up with the likes of: 'Dads Army', 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue', 'Navy Lark', 'Likely Lads', 'Les Dawson', 'Our Brave Boys' , 'Just A Minute' etc. etc. ALL these and many, many more are available to stream 24/7, on several UK Internet Stations: 'Abacus Comedy Radio' , 'British Comedy Radio', 'Pumpkin FM Comedy Radio' Enjoy Keep Safe, Keep Well, Keep Smiling Folks
