  2. Thanks for the prompt replies Otherwise ACE you can rest your brain for a while now the other reply i had was the right one oh and as you can see i was wrong about the bone through nose This is the site i was looking for https://jivaro-models.org/trucs_soluces/page_trucs.htm#gsc.tab=0 Here is the pic from homepage Big thanks to both of you for the answers
  3. This is my first post on here for along time must be getting on for ten years i feel a bit cheeky asking for help after such a long time away. Been looking after my lady wife 24/7 for that time so nearly gave up on my flying . Thank goodness the doctors at the royal found a solution so my wife now on the mend and i have a bit more free time. Here is my question for you all i used to read loads of rc forums and websites including this one but there is one i cannot find I feel sure it is an rc website and not a forum it has a lot of building blogs +rc hints and tips.i think the site was a dutch of french one bit i could be wrong If you have seen the site i think you would remember the homepage it has a cartoon type head and shoulders picture of what i remember as sort of native with earrings and a dog bone through the nose the picture its self is set in a circle. You can choose from several languages before you start to read. Big thanks to anyone who can help as i have the odd hour or so to read but not much build time
  4. Hi because i am not fitting any spars in wing thought i may as well go the whole hog so no vertical stab or rudder. Slot cut into elevator for ply brace. Hot wire treatment. V tail held together with temporary brace. You do know i was only kidding about the wing spars. So much to do so little time

  8. Hi Kevin and Bruce thanks for the replies i have removed the box spars from the wing came out real easy my ones are not alloy more like mild steel and very thin section there is no give in the spars at all they will never bend under stress they will just kink. My spars will go in the bin they are just junk but if i did put them back in the wing i would give them a thin coat of gorilla poly first so they are connected to the foam or if i did not remove them i would just turn wing upside down and squirt some foam safe CA into the small rectangular slots through which you can see the spar. After seeing the spars out of the wing i think when the wing flexes the only thing bending is the carbon wing joiner.Even though i think the spars are junk i would still buy this model the spars are easy to replace with something more suitable. The fusealage alone is worth the price i paid for the whole kit.I have compared the fusealage to the one on my Cygnus which is duralene bought from Alan Head in the 80s think the duralene fusealages were made in the states but cannot remember who made them. The Cygnus is the Flying Wing shown in my avatar.

  10. Hi i have just received a Phoenix 1600 kit but cannot find any threads for this model so rather than start a new thread thought i would ask my questions on here. Has anyone removed the metal box spars from the wing if so any tips for removing them. Are they glued in or is the wing made with the metal spars in the mould. Thanks in advance for any help

    Plans exchange

Hi have some plans i will never use mostly from the 70s 80s if anyone wants them just pay for the postage and they are yours. RC POWER Solar Wind 52" by Chris Clayton Gyrace David Boddington plan Roulet II 54" by Hoh Fang Chiun radio modeler plan RC GLIDERS Bae Hawk 50" sloper by R.A.Conway have 2 of this plan one of which is a copy Sorcerer 52" sloper by Dave Hughes Veron Impala 52" sloper Sailplanes International Osprey 64" this plan has no wing ribs shown on it but does show root rib and tip size so ribs can be made using the sandwich method as root and tip have same airfoil. OCTET this is a plan for eight small chuck gliders for either hand or catapult launch 3 of which are scale models note this plan cost me all of 2 shillings and 6 pence. I have some more plans when i get the time to find them will put them on here. Edited By noba on 23/09/2016 21:59:47
  12. Have bought both Futaba and Hitec servos during the last few months been disappointed with both i have Futaba servos i bought in the 80s they still work better than todays Futaba. Looks like Futaba quality is not what it used to be so shall now be buying Emax so many positive comments for the servos on here. Thanks everybody.
  13. Hi has anyone used Emax servos as sold by Airtek Hobbies if so would you please let me know what you think of them. Thanks in advance for any replies.
  14. Hi am thinking of using laminate film to cover a foam model so rather than start new thread am bumping this one. Would anyone please be able to tell me if there is any weight difference using laminate film instead of strapping tape and coloured tape.
  15. Hi have a birdie kit and a few questions for any birdie builders. In the box is a full roll of 1" wide reinforced tape it does not seem wide enough to use for taping leading edge only thing i can think of is use it to reinforce the elevon hinges or perhaps tape over the servo lead slots please does anyone know what the tape is really for. I have removed the foam from the top of the servo pockets and glued it back in the bottom so the servos are now on top of the wing. Am going to try using a couple of 5gm servos and a 400ma battery has anyone used lighter servos than the recomended 9gm ones. The weakest point i can see on this model looks to be the nose where it joins the wings any tips please to beef up without adding to much weight. Dave
  16. Hi has anyone bought from R2 Hobbies if so i would like to hear your opinion regarding this company. Thanks in advance for any help.
  17. Thanks again for the replies have ordered a Spook so should be here sometime next week. As for a DLG have been looking at a Bobolink 1m DLG by Arthobby seems they produce quality glider kits i reckon i shall be ordering this model so if anyone has built or flown any of the kits from Arthobby please let me know what you think.
  18. Thanks for the replies it was my intention to buy both Alula and Weasel i shall order a Spook so that will fill in for Weasel. All i have to do now is find a model instead of Alula i will not bother with the model on Ebay as Hobby King sell them for £35.42 plus postage but non in stock in UK warehouse it is however in stock in EU warehouse for 43 euro. reviews on Hobby King site are not that good. I shall do a bit of research on DLG models to fly instead of Alula something small like the DLG sold by Slopeside shall search the forum see if anyone has owned or flown one. 19. Hi cannot seem to find Alula or Weasel for sale anywhere and Dreamflight are still in the process of having new moulds made for these two. So i need some help from the forum please does anyone have any idea for alternative models for both the Alula and the Weasel. Edited By noba on 28/04/2014 19:05:41
  20. The wildthing i have is the newest version the mhs it has several updates/changes from other wildthings cannot remember them all as when talking to Alan Head he gives out so much info it is hard to take it all in but the main change is to the wing chord at the root now smaller than previous wildthings so hence the cog change manual for the new wildthing mhs gives cog as 70mm - 75 mm i think the ailerons have had a change in size as well but not 100% sure on that one i do remember Alan Head telling me the changes to the new model had made it more manouverable and able to recover faster after a hit. 21. Hi Phlil thanks for the reply but am not slowing it down with elevator if i use even the smallest amount of down to get the speed up it just goes down and i mean down with capitol D as though it wants to tuck under same with up elevator wants to flip over backwards when i mentioned putting in up elevator in last post i did so only to highlight the fact it is stable like this slowly pulling up elevator whilst facing into wind but even full up was ok model would just fly backwards over my head letting go of the elevator then returned it to flying forward think i might just have to move the c of g forward see how it goes Edited By noba on 15/06/2013 14:12:58
  22. Anyone have the new wildthing mhs same as mine if so perhaps you would help me out flew yesterday on baslow edge i know the lift was good as i flew my phantom same day no bother ok setup on wild thing is as per manual weight 648grm 12grm under the stated weight elevator 10mm up/down aileron 20mm up/down c of g 72.5mm back from root leading edge at side of fuselaage manual says 70mm-75mm model is stable if facing into wind can ease back on elevator and model will just gain height still stable but try to fly across the slope either way and it is very twitchy tries to keep droping its wing with the turn have to go really easy on the sticks to get level again i have the feeling if i did not level the wings it would just keep rolling over and turn right into the slope the elevator is about the same very touchy slightest movement on the sticks and  it wants to either tuck under or flip over backwards have double checked everything the model is built true and square i even balanced the wings across the span the only thing i can come up with is to move the c of g forward but am reluctant to do so as it is set as the manual is there anything else i should try never had problems like this with my cygnus, pecker or obelix thanks in advance for any help Dave Edited By noba on 15/06/2013 13:27:56
  23. Flew the wildthing today was hoping the wind would be westerly as we are only a 20 min drive from baslow edge at curbar no luck was cloudy with wind ssw drove up there anyway and walked to the monument hoping wind would turn more to the south but it stayed ssw running across the slope it is not the best of sites even when wind is bang on had a launch or two anyway did need a bit more reflex but flew straight and level first time every time i guess the wind strength was changing between 5 - 10 mph just had to wait till i thought it was strongest before launching flying was slow and because the wind was of the slope the lift was nearly non existent would fly ok if i kept it tacking into the wind but turn left or right out of wind model would descend quickly have to say i was suprised how stable the wildthing was if it started to get twitchy whilst flying slow a touch of down to get the speed up soon had it stable again all flights were short but all in all really pleased got back home around 5oclock and guess what the sun came out then wind turned westerly will be up there again this week for sure
  24. Here is my wildthing mhs Hitech minima rx/2 x s128 servos/2600mah battery pack/648 gr ready to fly turned out nose heavy so had to move the battery further back by placing a 3/4" foam block in front of the pack having allways built balsa models before this has been an experience for me with an epp/tape build if i ever do it again am sure i would do a better job of the finish and faster hopefully will have first flightl tomorrow if wind in right direction thanks to all for build tips Dave
  25. Hi CB been camping for a couple of days so not finished fiu have done wings for the wildthing today Have to say did not like the covering method for this model but wifey says it looks ok more likely it is me being fussy as i tend to be at least i took my time making sure the build is straight and true any problems flying will be down to the me on the sticks the servos/pushrods have been removed whilst covering just need fitting again shall finish the fuselage tomorrow Edited By noba on 03/06/2013 19:32:49
