  1. HI Steven   Thats good advice from Phil and Peter. I ran a 40 on a workmate and never gave it a second thought.  Some time later I did a  test run on a  120 FS on the workmate -  it nearly took off.!!   Secure the workmate!   Al
  2. SEAGULL - probably. However I would more than likely just sunbathe and talk to a Basketball all day!
  3. Have a look at the SAVOX range as an comparable option.  High quality - High torque - very fast.
  4. Hi Jaycee   It is a good idea to add a separate battery supply on larger aircraft as suggested.   Its quite easy to do.  Basically on the receiver/throttle cable from the ESC.  Separate the 3 wires about an inch back from the receiver plug. Use a mini screwdriver ie jewellers or a sharp point and press down on the MIDDLE metal connection/wire this is normally red (the live connection) to release it and pull it out of the plug.  Fold it back along tthe wires and tape it up to isolate it.  I wouldnt suggest NOT cutting the live wire as you might want use it again for future use on its own. This then goes into the Throttle port on your receiver as per normal.   All you need to do now is add your separate flight pack connected to the battery socket on your receiver as per normal (Via a switch preferable) the choice is yours!  If you are using 6 digital servo's it might be an idea to use a 6 volt flight pack but you would have to check that your receiver and servo's would handle a 6 volt supply.  If the servo's are bog stardard then a normal 4.8 should suffice.   I hope this helps   Al Edited By Alan B on 25/10/2010 10:00:55
  5. RC Factory Flash - Brilliant.  Fly it slow,fast,F3 even train on it!  Fly it close or rip up the sky. You  wouldn't be disapointed.  Will take off in about 10  ft on tarmac -short grass - or over/under hand launch.  Made from tough EPP foam.     Edited By Alan B on 20/10/2010 09:01:59
  6. Thank you John,Doug,Steve and all the others doing their bit - it actually makes me feel rather humbled!   Thanks John for posting the link.  You never know - I might have had a bit of you lot swishing around inside of me - probably why my flying has improved dramatically over the years! .    I had 2 BMT,s (Bone marrow transplants) the donor being a young German Chap. Out went the Old Austin Rover Rover engine and in went the New BMW engine.  The strange thing is I now have a liking for BMW's, I shop a lot at ALDI and drink german beer mostly - so there could be some truth in it ref the improved flying bit! .   As John has commented people.  Please think about - even if its just one of you reading this post and going for it.  One is better than none!   KR  AlanEdited By Alan B on 19/10/2010 14:31:38
  7. Hi Tony   What a wonderful thought.  Reading your post has really hit a nerve with me. I would love to organ donate but unfortutunately all my usable bits would go straight in the yellow Bio-hazard bin!  As so does some of my blood they drain off me occasionally.   Just to get on my soap box briefly.  Organ donation is like organising your will.  People want to do it but dont like thinking about it or getting around to doing it.   I was very poorly for about six years (I wont bore you with the details). I would say in that time I probably had about approx 80 blood transfusions. If you cant donate your organs for whatever reason - then please donate your BLOOD. There are numerous very kind faceless people out there who gave up an hour of their lives to save others like me. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be writing this now.   I doesn't cost anything and it is the greatest gift you could ever make.  If you are under 40 then also think about the Bone marrow donation register. You will make a difference.   from the comments above - gents -  you are all stars in my book!   I'm off my soap box now!  Thank you   AlEdited By Alan B on 19/10/2010 10:30:07

Hi Dan   You have my sympathy as well.  I agree with David,  going under the Knife is the last resort..  I was like you,  very athletic and suffered alot of back pain in the latter years of my time in the army.   As for imediate safe pain relief - try a  "TENS  machine" available from Lloyds pharmacy or boots - I think they are selling them now in boots as I saw them advertising on TV the other night.   A strange story - about 15 years ago I was living on pain killers. I went into a old pharmacy one day to get a heat pad or something for extra help as the pain was making feel really ill..  The old lady behind the counter said why dont you try these -  people have said they have had good results. It was a japanese product.  It contained about a dozen small round sticky pads with a magnet in the middle. it came with a Body chart to show you were to sight the magnets (a bit like acupunture sites on the body)   I was very sceptical.  I put them on my lower back for a week as instructed.  I was still in awfull pain during the 7 days and for the next 3 days after removal.  I thought what a waste of money!  Do you know - on the 11th day the pain had gone!  I have had only the odd twinge occasionally in the last 15 years and have never took another pain killerr for my back since!  I dont know if that sort of thing is still available but it did it for me and I am still amazed it actually worked!   Al        Edited By Alan B on 19/10/2010 09:40:23
  9.   Hi Mark - you could be right!  Heres the original -  with almost 300 million views there should be a few old boys in there!   Must admit i prefer the students take on it - it doe make me laugh, they have all the moves right!   Edited By Alan B on 18/10/2010 18:29:56
  10. Somebody sent me this recently.  Best of all they can sing!
  11. Hi Tony   Well I joined the Panther club!.  I think they all look great. I have kept mine standard - went for the Blue and yellow below. Took these last Friday after its maiden. There was a 10 knot wind but it handled it fine. It flew it again on Sunday, wind approx  the same but sunny.  I had repositioned the battery further forward after the first flight but it still wasn't enough as it still wanted to climb.  should sort it on the next sorty when I get the chance.   As Ken and Craig have commented - it flies well - no vices - bags of power in that Lander fan!   Have you flown yours yet?  The U/c is naff but so far it has held up but with a little epoxy added to strategic points.   PS  I had a real problem (is it just me!) trying to take off the top canopy cover. In the end I glued two small clear plastic tabs on it either side -  just by the forward ejection seat stickers. Lifting it off is so much easier now!   AlEdited By Alan B on 12/10/2010 00:27:31

  14. Hi phil Yep brilliant next day delivery. So you went for the f16. My son went for the full package ?150. As the lander fans are ?85 and the esc's are ?60. You almost get the model and all the servo's free!
  15. Thanks Ken & Craig (older member!)   The Panther is the Lander Fan and 4s - as so is the F-16   I did suggest to my son the Panther and it was highly recommended at the show by the Overlander seller. He just sort of looked at it and I saw the blank look on his face which suggested to me he was thinking old looking!  It was more of a case of "I want that one!" as he drooled over the F-16.  Youth eh!  His money, his decision!   I will see how the retracts go as I'm not a great fan (no pun intended!) of hand launching EDF's. There are though the full beefed up all metal retracts available if needed.   ATB  Alan
  16. If anybody attended the Nats this year - they probably noticed that the Overlander stand were selling off their Lander kits at 1/2 price. My son picked up a ARTF Lander EDF F-16 below     I put it together and set it up for him - yet to maiden it!  Weather depending. From what I have seen so far these kits are of impressive quality and at half price, I think they are a bargain.  I was twitching at the show wether to buy the F9F Panther (RCME April 2009 Review/article) but kept my hands in my pocket!   Anyway - Overlander are still running the offer online  CLICK HERE and I finally sucumbed and picked up the Panther - arrived yesteday - Lovely kit   As they are still almost 1/2 price I personally think they are a bargain.   Al
  17. Yep - the wind dropped off and the weather went lovely up at Barkston for a few days after the Nats. Now back to normal -Windy windy- windy.
  18. Hi Tony   I'm like you - it never seems straight forward. I prgrammed my DX7 for a V tail Blaze ST. It was supplied with a Y lead for the ailerons.   The Blizzard manual should tell you the direction of the V for Rudder.   I would say turn off the flapperon on the TX.   Unplug the elevator and Rudder from the receiver. Plug in one at a time to establish which is which. Once established - turn on the V tail on the transmitter and then both should mix automatically so the v tail works correctly.   If you are going with separate servos for the Ailerons - put the right aileron sevo into the Aileron socket on the RX and the Left servo lead into the AUX/Aux" then go to Prog Mix on the TX - say mix 5  and put in  Aileron  - Aux  -  on.  The 2 ailerons should now work. you may have to adjust the values to get them both working correctly.     That would of course be a standard set up without flaperons - I'm still getting my head around that bit!   Hope it helps  - It was nice  to meet you at the Nats   KR  Al
