  1. GrumpyGnome was that the version off the supplied disk ? I have the downloaded version which I tried the dongle with and no luck , the disk itself is faulty .
  2. Hi all, Now that Phoenix the simulator is no more and all the files are available for download free of charge does anyone know if the 22 in 1 Chinese dongle actually works with Phoenix ? I bought one when I lost my genuine dongle and it didn't work and I could not read the supplied CD ( faulty) at all. My dongle turned up ( under my nose all the time) so didn't try it again . Has anyone on here actually got it to work ? As usual thanks for replies .
  3. Sorry not making myself clear , I can read the SD card either via a card reader or by going into bootloader that is not a problem , reading or seeing the internal flash is the problem . After much googling and a read on github I managed to update the Ethos version from 1.0.9 to 1.0.19 by placing the firmware.bin in the sdcard root and running bootloader , read it and flashed it to radio - success . Now how do I get OpenTX on it using that method because the OTX bootloader will be wrong I think . Any ideas anyone ?
  4. Sorry Kevin if there's no internal flash where is the radio upgraded because the X10 works without an SD card . Every you tube update video shows a flash plus sd card contents . Are there any forums where I could ask my question ? I was looking for someone on here with a X10 Express running Ethos to plug in a USB cable and confirm what happens regards what appears . I know the procedure with X7 and the RM Tx16 for upgrading but this without seeing firmware is a bit of a pain .
  5. I got one of the above delivered today and after playing with it for a while decided I would like to backup the Ethos operating system before maybe putting on OTX later . I took the supplied USB cable plugged into the Win10 PC and found straight away that it didn't find a driver for the device but did appear as an X10 joystick . Odd I tried another PC and again it appeared as a X10 joystick but not a port so someone suggested try it in bootloader mode which I did and this time I could see the SD card contents but not the internal flash contents . Am I missing something obvious ? Lots of you tube vids show the USB lead being plugged in and the internal flash and SD card contents being visible but not on this one . I have even tried a WIN7 PC but no change and tried several different USB leads but again no change . With it showing joystick not USB I looked for a switch in Ethos like the one in OTX where the option is "ask" but there is nothing that I can find . Anyone shed any light on it for me , I am thinking of sending it back at the moment as I can't get anywhere with it . All replies gratefully received even if I'm an idiot and missed the obvious.
  6. Thanks Dad_flyer that went right over my head on first read ! Maybe I should read and read again until it enters my addled brain but that's the sort of thing I was thinking of . On the Frsky sensors they became an absolute doddle when i discovered the configurator program so easy to use , wonder if some clever type fancies writing one for Spectrum ? Cheers P.S anymore info about Spectrum ? Put the E back into RCM&E .
  7. Hi all, I had great success with the magazine article and forum comments putting together Frsky telemetry modules and adding GPS which wasn't covered in the original article , they work brilliantly without costing too much and have even knocked a couple out for Graupner users at the club . I am now hooked on telemetry- current, vario and GPS sometimes voltage but have a lot of Spectrum models that need the same treatment but cannot find much info on homebrew Spectrum sensors using Arduino boards , anyone got a link or have done it themselves and wants to share ? I see that Spectrum uses a hub TM1000 ? and all the sensors plug into that , I imagine it's not hugely different to FRSKY setup and could be replicated using an Arduino . Does anyone have any links to working code ? Thanks
  8. I googled until blue in the face and that didn't come up , would prefer -u but can live with -b adjust as necessary. Thanks
  9. Sorry to ask again but has anyone got a spare hall effect sensor for this project as they seem unavailable everywhere ACS758 LCB-50u or 100u . Alternatively is there a substitute that could be used ? Bit stuck now for the current sensor Banggood do something but they are all -100b or 50b bi-directional ones that dont measure down very low . heres hoping someone has a spare in the bits box . Cheers
  10. Yes I had to move the throttle servo about a bit , usual thing as 2 strokers are side operated and Saito are rear linkage but nothing insurmountable . Still love the setup of Boomerang and Saito just right for me plenty of umph but not too much to make it a hassle to fly .
  11. Hi all Thanks Chris B for pointer to original magazine article that's all up and running on breadboard except the current sensor seems to out of stock everywhere but I have tested the port with a varying voltage and it will work but need calibrating . Anyone got a spare ASC758LCB they could sell ( RS out of stock ) ? Using the configurator I built the GPS version to log location, height and speed again on breadboard to the RM TX16S SD card and that all worked really well all I need now is something to plot the .csv log onto as i'm not keen on Google Earth which works but is a faff , preferably free alternative to Google that I can plot the flight path on ? For those interested in technical aspects I built the GPS and voltage/current circuits on Arduino Nanos with a Neo 6M for the GPS ( only 4 wires and a resistor) and for the voltage/current/pressure with a BMP180 and the voltage resistors on Veroboard . When its all tested and calibrated I will heat shrink it for protection . If anyone is interested I can email .ino file and a connection instruction but it is all in the description .h file for OpenXsensor anyway . For those interested in this topic there is a nice standalone circuit using an Arduino that writes to an SD card instead for those who don't have telemetry on there radio gear . I think for larger models the CAA may demand some form of logging soon but lets see.

  13. Meant slow GrumpyGnome , usually a second or so be sufficient ?
  14. I think I'll go for flap with elevator compensation and a delay , leave the stabisation to do what it does best on a gusty day . I always go for belt and braces on stabilisation a switch for off and a pot for the amount of gain but never use the other setting ( can't remember the name) as that's too intrusive and makes it unflyable . On my gliders I tend to use the stabisation only to launch and keep the wings level while I get my hands back on the sticks after that unless it's very windy I leave it off . Thanks for replies all .
  15. If you are flying with stabilisation on either Frsky or AS3X etc would you expect the application of flaps to be compensated for by electronics ? I have never tried it myself but wondered if it did compensate for a sudden pitch up with the application of flaps - anyone know for sure ?
  16. Sorry about the lateness but just decided to make some GPS sensors to work with Frsky X receivers and noticed this thread . I believe there an article in 2019 RCM&E with an article that might start me off , can someone confirm for me the month or a photocopy if not available ? I have managed to read GPS data to arduino uno and run the Frsky Sensor to test whether the data is read by TX16S telemetry ( it was) just now need to hook them together but not sure where to start. If i had got into this back then I would have had some of the sensor boards but probably way to late for that . There is sketch from googling that says it does GPS to Frsky telemetry but i could not compile at all and too thick to work out why . Was looking for location, height ,speed from the GPS and maybe some pack info such as current ( worked out volts easily enough) . Hoping someone can help .
  17. Was a little slow out of the box but then fairly quick to lock on subsequently. The switch was just so I could control the logging so it wasn't going all the time without moving and you can set the how often it logs I.e. 1 second etc.
  18. I purchased the above unit for my RM TX16S the other day and what a cracking little unit for just over £30 . Installation a doddle , connect to smartport look for new sensors create a special function for the logging and assign a switch - all done and working superbly . Walked around the block with it on an X8R and a battery then looked on Google earth where I'd been - superb . Seems such a good piece of kit for a superb price when other mainstream manufacturers seem to want extra kit and a mortgage taking out for the same functionality . Looked into building my own but can't get near the price and size ( arduino nano+gps+sdcard writer) . Anything equivalent to it for Spectrum out there without extra telemetry hubs etc ?
  19. Companion will not play audio files unless you tell Companion where to find them in the settings ditto your jpegs . Just look in the setup and link to the files otherwise it's just blank .
  20. That's a great idea , I'll give that a try later really good video.
  21. Thanks for suggestions I have now sorted it by copying the settings from a laptop one by one , not sure which one or combination caused the change but its back as I like it .
  22. Maybe doing something wrong here but when I go to Latest posts the ones I haven't read yet are no longer in bold but used to be . More irritating is that the topics are ordered oldest first despite me clicking newest first at the top , for example topics "signs of times " and " members new models" start at about 10 years ago. Just does not respond to being changed anyone any ideas ?
  23. I like the Amber sound pack love the voice but if I won the lottery I could get Joanna Lumley to voice the commands -bliss !
  24. Edge companion working well and now got everything saved on PC just in case . Someone asked above was I flying with Edge TX answer yes 3 models Bixler , Ranger and Phoenix 2.4 M gliders . No range problems no unexpected glitches using a combo of S6R and RM168 receivers ( only use the stabilisation for launching just to keep the wings level ) , yet to come across any problems at all . Just love the Amber sound pack there are some lovely phrases in there ( snafu ) and one something like "that went well" never had other flyers before asking for the volume to be turned up before .
