  1. At our flying field you can usually tell what colour everyone's skirting boards and window frames are, 'cos their flight boxes are painted with the leftover paint. A simple bit of gloss emulsion seems to do the trick and I've yet to have one fall apart due to being fuel soaked.
  2. It's got to be between my Permagrit 12" sanding block - I've even used it for the dreaded DIY, or my Kavan balsa stripper. One is possibly the most useful, whilst the other one saves me an absolute fortune in strip wood.
  3. A warbird will always go down well, but lets have something that you can't get easily as a kit or ARTF: 1) Stuka No retracts to worry about, some good colour schemes, interesting variants (87G with those big cannons) & the possibility of some very cool diving manouvers. 2) Blackburn Skua http://freespace.virgin.net/john.dell/blackburn_skua.htm 3)Boulton-Paul Defiant http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/types/uk/boulton_paul/defiant/Defiant.htm The mrs wants a bleriot, but if she wants it on the list she can damn well do her own post.
  4. You could always use a pair of longer bolts instead.
  5. My Uno Wot has a OS 46 LA up front and flies a treat (vertical performance rather good ). Managed to balance it by putting the battery pack and receiver well back (behind the servo tray). There is one member of my club who flies a UNO wot with a laser 70 on the front......
  6. Aliphatic's good for joints where you need to sand afterwards, as PVA dries into a rubbery compound that's a pain to sand down. On the other hand, aliphatic is more brittle than PVA, so PVA is a little better where there might be a bit of a shock load or vibration. To be honest, just about all of the glues we use are stronger than the wood they are joining together.
  7. Shaun, On the bar above each post, on the right hand side you'll see a box with the time & date of the post, with an icon of an envelope next to it. Click on the icon and you can email me from the forum. Saves putting your email address on a public forum....
  8. Don't worry 'bout postage, just email me with your address and I'll send it. I'll send it, that is once the postmen (persons) go back to work.....
  9. The real trouble with the "health and safety" culture is that all the noise generated by the "do-gooders" who come up with daft rules (eye protection whilst playing conkers, for example) drowns out the common sense and worthwhile stuff that others are trying to do. The rules that came out recently that everyone quotes as "builders can't use ladders" don't actually say it. They say "feel free to use ladders if you're being sensible, but if you're going up and down a ladder in the same place over and over again for weeks wouldn't stairs be a better bet?" The daft buggers in charge of the country who miss- read the rules and are scared of being prosecuted turned this into "oh my god we can't use ladders!!!!!" Rant over......for now
  10. Shaun, Apologies for the delay. Tried scanning the manual, but it created a HUGE file. I don't have any use for a Tutor 40 manual anymore, so if you still want it, I'd be happy to post it to you.
  11. True, carbon fibres not far off metal when it comes to chopping things up. The trouble is with nylon is that it tends to break leaving a sharp edge at the tips, which would turn into just another cutting edge. Wooden props probably still need more force to break them than most bones. Anyone care to be a volunteer for some practical tests? Thought not.
  12. "No...it needed a new fuselage, wings, tailset and a motor." Bit like trigger's broom then?
  13. Hi Shaun,  I keep my wing bands in a tin (old tobacco tin), with a bit of talc in. The talc helps soak up some of the goo that gets all over them. Only trouble is I end up smelling like my granny. On the lid of the tin I've got a sticker on which I've written a best before date for the bands. When that date comes around I bin the bands, put new ones in and write a new best before date on. Easy peasy.
  14. There a couple of dimples cast into the wing of my arc Jupiter that are meant to be on the C of G. Might well be a "feature" across their range.
