  7. Posted by cymaz on 23/12/2018 13:51:29: Couple of things on this.. Anybody watched the Navy series about HMS DUNCAN on Channel 5? Apparently this ship can track a tennis ball sized object at great speed from 5 miles or so........so why didn’t the military track this object and follow it to home ? Yes it's true, the Samson radar on the Type 45 Destroyer can supposedly track small objects at Mach 3 out to a lot more than 5 miles (and up into space). It seems odd that the authorities don't have some means of tracking a drone that can only do 30mph or so. I guess it was the 'pop up' nature of the target that defeated them.
  8. You beat me to it cymaz. I was just about to say, the press treatment of this couple is like that of Christopher Jefferies, the landlord of Joanna Yeates, who was murdered in Bristol in 2010. Jefferies successfully bought prosecutions for libel against the Daily Mirror and the Sun. I guess this couple may want to pursue something similar.
  9. I gather that having had their pictures plastered all over the newspapers, the couple arrested have now been released without charge. Trial by media again . Even if he isn’t guilty though, it seems someone should have a word with this guy, as I gather he was often seen by neighbours flying his multi-rotor up and down the cul-de-sac where he lives. Obviously completely unaware of the words in the ANO about not flying near a built up area.
  10. Just a heads up, in case you've missed the trailers. Starting on Channel 4 this Sunday (9th Sept) at 8:00pm. First of three episodes. "As part of the RAF's centenary, model aircraft enthusiasts from Britain and Germany recreate the Battle of Britain in miniature, to understand and commemorate the pilots." **LINK**
  11. Yes I saw that thread some tome ago thanks. To bring the info in it up to date: Robotbirds : As I said in my original post, I’ve bought some from there, but they told me they will no longer be stocking the larger sheet sizes. flyingwings.co.uk : Not on the website. epp-versand.de : Appear to have it, but they’re in Germany eppfoam.co.uk : Only list Depron on the website. rcfoam.com : List it, but all their white EPP is shown as Sold Out - and they’re in America epp540.com : Website seems not to exist anymore. I guess (short of having to ring around, and potentially end up driving to a model shop half way across the country) the answer is to call the traders going to the next shows (LMA Much Marcle?), and see if they'll be taking any.
  12. Leeds Model Shop, Flying Wings and others don't list EPP sheets at all on their websites as far as I can see, so it sounds as though maybe they have it in the shops but don't want the pain of having to package it for sending out by post. The guy at Robot Birds indicated that they and others would no longer be sending out large delicate sheets because of this. I can't remember whether I've seen EPP foam in trade tents at the shows around the UK recently. But I guess if it's available in future, it'll be to personal callers in the shops only.
  13. Thanks for that Andy. I've had a look, and as far as I can see Phoenix sell EPP foam kits, but not the EPP sheet that I'm looking for. Cheers, Clive
  14. Does anyone know where I can get supplies of EPP foam sheet please? I've just bought some from Robot Birds, and had a call from the chap there to say they won't be sending out any full size sheets in future, as it's such a pain to pack them for transit. I've looked around for other suppliers, but failed to find any (and that includes eBay). I can't be the only person left who still builds from plans, and needs full size sheets occasionally. Any ideas?
  15. Hi All, One of the 30A Opto ESCs in my 5 year old DJI Flamewheel F550 has developed a fault. The associated motor judders back & forward, and won't start properly. With a series of motor substitutions and FC to ESC signal cable swaps, I'm now confident that it's the ESC that's at fault, not the motor or Naza FC. The original DJI ESCs no longer seem to be available. So the question is, can I replace the duff one with any similar 30A Opto-isolated SimonK type ESC? Or am I likely to encounter problems with throttle calibration, speed matching (to the other 5 motors) etc.?

  18. Hi John (et all), I've answered my own question now thanks. The answer was to reverse the elevon connections so that left now goes to Ch3 (Elevator), and right goes to Ch2 (Aileron), and then reverse the aileron servo direction at the Tx. There had to be a way, it was just a question of finding the right combination ! Pitch, roll and everything else OK now, so I can go and fly!!!
  19. Hi All, I'm using an Orange RX3SM 3-Axis Flight Stabilizer/Receiver in a small flying wing. I know that you have to keep the wing-type settings at the Tx to just basic aileron, and change the 'Delta' switch at the RX3 to 'Delta'. I also have the left elevon connected to Ch2 (Aileron), and right elevon to Ch3 (Elevator) at the receiver. All works OK except that the pitch gyro works in the wrong sense. I.E. Roll stab is OK in that if right wing goes up, right elevon goes up, and vice versa. However Pitch stab is wrong in that if the nose goes up, both elevons go up rather than down as they should. I've tried every combination of servo direction reverse settings at both Tx and Rx, but the only thing which corrects this problem, is to mount the receiver the other way up, which is inconvenient due to its position on top of the wing. The reverser switches on the RX3 only affect the servo direction (as controlled by the Tx), not the gyro sense direction. The OrangeRX instructions are very vague with regard to mounting orientation. Can anyone suggest a way of reversing the pitch gyro sensing orientation please? Ta.
  20. Hi all, I'm looking for ideas. I have an old Ultrafly Spear which has seen better days, and I'm looking for another airframe to put the fan, motor & electronics into. The Spear was always a bit of a handful, I.E. small and fast with a very high wing loading . A catapult was the only way I could get it into the air. There used to be a 70mm version of the Taft Hobby Viper Jet, sold minus EDF (so you could fit your own) by HobbyKing; but as far as I can establish there is now only a 90mm version - the 70mm version being discontinued. Can anyone suggest something else suitable, which doesn't come already supplied with a fan and motor? Thanks.
  21. Hi Chris, Interesting to hear the situation regarding the designer's intention for Chticat sales to remain in France. You can't keep anything to yourself nowadays though, a number of people in our club have made passable copies of the original, which is why my Guixmodels original is accompanied by 5 or 6 others at most of our indoor nights now. Merry Xmas all . Cheers, Clive
  22. Hi Chris, I live in Bristol but managed to order it from eBay; here (although he seems to be out of stock at the moment: **LINK** He's in Puchheim, Germany apparently. As for the Airbug, I believe originally it came as a kit from flyingwings.co.uk, although I don’t think it’s still available. I got the plans for it though my club, as there must be 15 to 20 of us who have them now. It’s not as stable or directional as the Chticat. I’m now on my 3rd Airbug (they get ‘tired’ after a season or two being thrashed around the school gym), and I've never yet been able to build one which corners properly - although others seem to have managed it . Cheers, Clive
