  1. And I wouldn't even attempt it if there's a cross wind!
  2. @Richard Could you check your email again please, I've just sent you another one to see if that gets through, sent from my home Mac this time. Failing that, all as per our 'phone conversation today. Ron
  3. Thanks Paul, as you say, it's semi scale so doesn't look too bad as it is, well at least yours and DD's don't!
  4. Probably a stupid question and the answer will become clear when I get my one, but why can't the wheels fully retract into the nacelles like the full size?
  5. Ok, ok you guys have finally convinced me that I really do need a 110. Jrman has already helped me out with the LA-7 as part 1 of my winter builds so are there any unstarted 110 kits out there in desperate need of a new home (please?).
  6. Hi Walts, really good what you're doing. Any chance you could expand on the linked flaps using the Bowden cable please?
  7. +1 for getting the SLEC soldered threaded ends, much better than cutting thread. However, have you tried to solder some of the pushrods supplied with Great Planes 'kits', what a bu**er they are!
  8. Have done it with 2mm ones but you have to go steady and use cutting fluid and be careful not to bend them whilst doing it!
  9. Posted by sgwlm on 15/08/2017 08:12:46: i use m3 threaded rod with ball links, then heatshrink to cover, i use this method on my own and customer planes, never had a problem. use a matching colour heatshrink or a totally different one, Edited By sgwlm on 15/08/2017 08:15:57 Edited By sgwlm on 15/08/2017 08:17:59 Apart from looking good and locking, what is the point of the heat shrink? Does it make the rod stiffer?
  10. @Richard - retracts to suit incl oleos and any other bits for the build? Trying to keep you listening, Jon isn't!
  11. Well, thanks to jrman I will soon be in possession of an LA-7. So my winter project will soon be queued up in the workshop, just got to sort out a new motor for it now. Jon, are you listening?
  12. Well as it's my birthday in a few weeks time I've made my wish list and sent it up the chimney. I know that's what we do for Christmas and I know that I've got a wood burning stove, nevertheless I thought it was worth a try.
  13. So have we now got to a conclusion with this thread? No more kits from Richard?
  14. And if said Sea Fury were capable of being powered by a v twin then I'd place another order with you Jon! I can imagine the sound now, on over-run after a fast (ish) beat up the runway. Oh yes!
  15. Typical, the boat has sailed as I arrived at the quayside! The law of S*d Richard, you should have made 20!
  16. @Joakim, it really is part of the reply to the OP's question but in answering it there are many associated issues that have also to be taken into consideration. I have already stated my lust for the LA7 and / or the JU88 and or the 110 but equally if Richard had a non warbird scale 'plane of a Reno racer (from any era) then I would fill my boots with that too. I like flying in all weathers, I see it as a challenge especially cross wind landings, and I like flying scale-like. With a Reno racer my thirst for speed would also be satisfied thus killing 2 birds with 1 stone (if I only wanted speed then a Weston UK demon machine powered by their 52v2 would be enough, but I like scale). As I said in my previous post, most of my club members fly sports types, the Reno racer would cover both sports and scale.
  17. It's taken me the best part of 3 days, on and off, to read through this post and I've gone through emotions ranging from euphoria to deep depression, so I can only image what it's like for Richard! I came back into model 'planes, after a 40 year break, a couple of years ago and that was thanks to Flite Test and their You Tube videos which I found amusing and very informative. I built a couple of Depron based 'planes and bought myself some new RC gear, FrSky Taranis. I set myself a target of spending no more than £150 on any new 'plane that I bought and after the quick demise of the Depron ones I joined a club and progressed to the foamy WOT 4 with which I took my A (back in the day I never bothered with clubs, I just found a suitable field and flew). Some 20 or so foamies later I decided that I wanted more so stepped up to gas powered ARTF, the first one being the GP Giant Revolver, which I must admit is still one of my favourite 'planes to fly and at the then price of £300 was good value. I now have 5 gassers but have started to lust after some glow powered mainly because several of my fellow fliers are glow only chaps. Obviously high on my list was a Laser and have ordered one from Jon to power my Wots Wot XL, why this plane? Well the reason is simply that 3 others have the standard one and I love the way that they fly, so I was influenced by their choice. I have also just bought a std size GP Revolver for glow power (Weston UK 52) and this purchase was again influenced by others, in that we all want to get similar sized, relatively fast fun sports models so that we can all fly together. When I look at how my involvement in model aircraft has changed over the years, I used to spend 80% of my time building and 20% flying, now it's the other way round. However, and here's the thing, I now want to build more of a kit type 'plane but whilst I have the ability (cos that's what I used to do) I don't want to scratch build. My current hangar is mainly sports types although scale does feature in some of the edfs and foamies and I also have a Seagul P40 gasser (bought as an incomplete build and am not that impressed with it's quality!). So I'm after a scale 'plane or 2 but the Spit / Hurri / FW / ME are a bit mainstream for me. Imagine how excited I got reading through the initial pages of this thread, a Whirlwind, JU88, ME110, LA7, all of these met my criteria and could either be leccy or (another purchase) Laser powered but also imagine my disappointment to see that Richard will only be producing the Spit. It looks like I will have to go back to scratch built to get my scale 'plane or will just have to forget them altogether and stick with the more sports type. As s matter of interest, the vast majority of planes flying at our club are of the sports type, very few scale even though we have a large number of stick and tissue builders and even some who build their own engines. I also do fly quads and fpv and love the technical aspect of those, but at 65, I'm not capable of competitive fpv quad racing!
