I have one of these with a Laser 80 in it, exhaust exits downwards so no need for anything to show. Bit a handful to fly actually, one the the club "experts" usually has to land it for me. Needed a lot of rudder mix dialled in with aileron control as it just wallows in the turn with no general authority otherwise. I will try and post a picture when I can find one.

So Drew thought it could be worth £4000. Come on! I think it should have been given back to Andrew Boddington. Would have made a nice ending to the program.

Went to Asda this morning to get some bog rolls, the panic buyers and hoarders had cleared the shelves in the bog roll aisle. I'm so glad that I managed to buy 480 bog rolls last week before all this panic buying started.

The "black box" won't be much bigger than a receiver, and it's to identify your "drone" so a commercial device can take avoiding action. Not received my card yet. Going back to a previous post, I also remember information regarding discounts on Sainsbury and Tesco shopping which like Amazon and Argos appears to be wishful thinking.

As the letters only have to be 3 mm high, get yourself a "P" Touch printer and then you can charge your club mates for making labels up for them.

Received my operator I.D. this afternoon from the CAA, letters must be at least 3 mm high so no big deal. At least they didn't need it right across the wing!

I received a Re-Affiliation pack from the BMFA. In it was a leaflet describing the advantages of the card. It showed a lot of logo's including B&Q, Argos and Amazon, plus the details that it will give you 4% off all purchases at Tesco's and 5% off at Sainsburys. I also went on-line as per Gary Manuel's post and only Halfords came up in the search, even though I have a B&Q and Argos just down the road. Interesting that. Yes that's what I thought. Think about transporting a plane in a car, as bad as plod finding a firearm in the boot!

If you own them aren't you classed as an operator?

I asked this question before but didn't get any sensible answers. Just assume for now it is a hypothetical question. Have a garage full of model planes, used to belong to a flying club that was affiliated to the BMFA. Haven't flown for a couple of years and put model flying on hold due to other interests. How does that leave you with the new "drone" regulations?

Here's a new take on the registration fiasco. It's been stated that there could be a £1000 for anyone not registering as an owner and paying the £16.50 fee. Just suppose you have stopped flying recently, either due to ill health or some other reason. You used to fly with a club that was affiliated with the BMFA, so by now all your details are with the CAA. You have a garage full of air planes, so where does that leave you in regard to the registration process? You can hang a firearm on the wall providing it it has been professionally deactivated, but where is the bottom line for a potential airworthy model. What about the antique shops that always have large models hanging from the ceilings complete with engines and ancillaries, not to mention model shops as well. Are all required to pay the £16.50 charge to avoid a fine? A pretty poor state of affairs as an old ex RAF friend used to say.

Hi Andy I think your best bet would be to have a word with sarik hobbies who have an advert in the latest RCM&E. Looks like they have acquired most of the plans that were sold by Traplet. The Duncan Hutson plan number was MW2534 that was listed in my old copy of RC Model World plans book. Tony

Hi Andy The wingspan of the Duncan Hutson Islander was 61.5" but I'm sure it had windows not solid sides. Might be worth measuring the span to see if the previous builder decided to change the design. The other plan is an 84" design badged up as drawn by Roy Norris. In fact this is not the case, the plan was initially drawn by Garth Pearce who belonged to the Warminster and District Model Flying Club and Roy was a club member at the same time. Roy built a model from the plan and entered it in the 82 Nationals. Soon after he sent the plan off to who ever was selling them at the time and his name went on the bottom. Garth was quite philosophical about the whole them but Roy Norris didn't fly at WDMFC again. Garth went on to design and fly a Trisander model but there is no plan available. I only know all this as I spent three years building the "Garth Pearce" Islander and it has yet to leave the ground. If I can get my head around posting pictures I'll show you why it has taken that long to build. I actually have a plan, a bit yellow but it is "brand new" in packet as I made a couple of copies to build on. The build is not for the faint hearted though as the fuselage has curved surfaces on all four sides. I would put it on par with a Brian Taylor Spitfire for complexity. If you are interested the plan will be very cheap, there was not a wood pack or canopy bits available for it, so you are not dependant on Traplet re-emerging from the ashes.
