  1. Thanks guys. I'll stick with M3s. On with the resurrection. Half a bottle of thick cyano for various dings and a wing mount to repair still to go. Almost gave up today but I don't want to spend 300quid on a new trainer when I'm almost grown out of it.
  2. I spiraled in my Multiplex Magister with one of these in the nose and bust up the mounting plate about a year ago. I've made another out of ply but when I come to fit it to the plate, I had no idea what the screw types were. I have plenty of M3's but these seem too loose. It may be cos of the crash but this broke the mounting plate - I don't remember the screws being stripped. There's no details I can find on the AXI site. Anyone have a clue? Cheers.
  3. There's a UART on the DFT - wasn't expecting to crack open the T9. Was just looking for interim solution before I drop cash on a Frksy TX at the end of the year..
  4. I've seen a few DIY versions online for the bluetooth but is there an off-the-shelf product for connecting the DFT (currently sitting in the back of a Futaba T9) to an Android phone to view telemetry? Or is it going to have to be DIY? Edited By playtime222 on 25/07/2019 08:57:00
  5. Given that I have a Futaba T9CP Super with a FrSky 2.4GHz module with telemetry, what do I need to get the voltage of the motor battery displayed on a screen somewhere? I assuming I need a sensor and a screen (that slots into the campack slot at the top of the TX) What do I need and what are my options? Cheers
  6. Watched a youtube vid on dismantling engines and they just pop the casing off, no drama. So I obviously had something physical stopping it. The next attempt, mine just popped off too. And I found a staple and one of the grub screws that secures the shaft I lost the first time I tried to dismantle it. You couldn't make it up. Everything fine, no sign of oxidation, bad scratches or anything. So a bit of good luck this time around.
  7. Nice to see a few of you still around too :D Yeah, that fin is a brick. Going to build mine up. Also thinking about making the tail wheel steerable. Managed to find a slot in a local flying club last night too. I'll be taking the Magister up for a refresher on Valkenberg next week. The facilities there are amazing. Great people, huge workshop, plenty of storage and a bloody huge field to fly on.

  9. Thanks. Indoors in a box drawer but it's near a location where the wall sheds a bit of plaster occasionally. The stuff actually felt soft tooo. A couple of tiny lumps fell out and I could squeeze it with my nails. Already 4-Max and waiting. Let's hope I can get it open.
  10. I've got a 4-Max PO-5055-595 that's been on the shelf for years untouched. I finally took it down to look at mounting options for a TN Lysander and turned the casing and the prop shaft (by hand). I got a lot more resistance that I was expecting and some white crap came out of it so I think something has got in there and needs a clean. I undid the 2 grub screws at the back but can only remove the shaft - I can't move the casing more than half an inch. It may be the magnets, something may be stuck in there, etc. I've put it back together for now but what is the proper methods for dismantling and cleaning a motor? Cheers
  11. Hmm noob alert. Some appear handed but they aren't. They all still need sanding cos the obechi from the wing spar is too thick.
  12. Glue is meeting wood. Left inner wing panel. I am frankly shocked - pleasantly surprised doesn't cut it - that the laser cut ribs are handed!!!!
  13. A shift in case outcomes driven by insurance companies, possibly with assistance from appropriate legislation (Hahahaha! I know, I know), would push drivers further away from the bikes but it should only be part of the equation. I used to have an example of this where the law didn't have to change but the insurance companies stopped paying and the... whatever it was changed. Dammit...

The obvious aim is to go for the least ballast possible - you had the lightest build of those I have weights for - 2.47kg (5lbs7oz old money) - even with ballast, so you must have done something right! Looking at some available 4S LiPos, all of them will fit into 160 x 50 x 50 mm. I can't quite do a vertical battery behind the engine - even the smallest is 139 and the inner radius of the cowl is 140. Mounting it at an angle like yours will let it fit in there and is also a good way of getting the mass further away from the c/g too. On the other hand, it may put it too far forward and be a complete waste of time! Haha. A quick release Terry-style cowl has the advantage of not having to break up the cowl with a hatch. So very interesting in the offer of a pic or two. No rush. I am a very slow builder and will not get to the fuselage for months yet. Even though I have the wood pack, I'm going to thin down the stab ribs and build up a fin instead of using the block balsa. I'll hollow out the tail cap a bit if I can too. This will help balance up some scale features like a decent tailwheel (steerable?), the robart hinging, interior actuators, ladder, maybe passenger figures. Yeah, I know, 'More than I can chew?'   16. @Tim - Overcrowded roads are the main cause as there is no realistic, safe, alternative for most journeys (apart from more kids walking to school). I wouldn't cycle on a road in the UK most of the time - no cycle lanes, let alone road rage - yet here I will happily do so, even if the cycle lane runs out for a while, because it's in the culture to respect bikes. Average bike ownership here is 1.6 bikers per person - everyone bikes so they empathise when they drive. They even started fining cyclists for using mobile phones this month and in Autumn you run a serious risk of a fine for your lights not working. Culture and infrastructure. I have to admit to being very tempted with a 2.4GHz rig with a little telemetry such as battery voltage and temperature... :D I would have to fork out a decent bit of cash to replace TX and several RX, not to mention surgery on models, transfering model setups blah, blah, blah and I just cannot justify that right now. I asked the guys at Steve Webb when I was there last how much a conversion would cost for my 2 Futaba TXs but they said they weren't readily available and not worth the trouble. Quite happy to be a luddite in this respect. As above, I expect mijn vreselijke Nederlands and Mode 2 (as god intended for pilots) will be bigger problems at any local club.

  19. Brit in the Netherlands here. With high bike usage since forever, and high accident rate in the 60s, they started putting in cycle lanes everywhere in the 70s. Even where I live now they are nicking a lane off the road and putting in better cycle lanes. Also the assumed fault precedence here for legal purposes is car > bike > pedestrian which calms everyone down. Also the trams/trains/buses are sensible and all use the same pre-pay card. Plenty of options. It works. Less cars needed, fitter people, less accidents, less pollution blah blah. In the UK, I just cannot see the public or the politicians accepting greater bike use so the conversation around encouraging/discouraging something with appropriate taxation or lack of is premature. Don't get me wrong, I've tangled with assholes on bikes when driving in the UK before I moved. Anecdotal evidence from biking friends in the UK tells me it is still dangerous for sensible, law-abiding, bike riders as they are perceived as taking up car space by assholes driving cars.
