Scruff, Try this it's available direct from the Deluxe Materials and other retailers... https://deluxematerials.co.uk/collections/building-finishing-products/products/foam-armour It may be better to coat the foam first before painting and then again after as even the most compatible paints don't always stick to the waxier foams. Andy48 The document I referred to above appears as a email circulated by Duncan McClure South Midalnds Area Delegate to the BMFA and recommends that a local club adopts an embargo of open source radios as he maintains it IS possible to change the power settings using this system. I have now seen this email but it is an internal club communication so I won't put it online without permission. You may want to contact Duncan directly on this subject. Andy.

  5. I recently made a 15" x 13" vacform box from ply and MDF and a frame from ali angle. The frame was sized to slide under the grill in my cooker, for this reason I couldn't use bulldog clips which would have made the loading of the material much easier. With a home vacuum cleaner and a cooker the rest was just a bit of workshop time. My first and only piece came out perfectly first time.

  7. My explanation comes from several decades of model building and flying experience, While aerodynamics is a complicated subject all I can say is I have actually seen these effects occur. If you are not bothered about trimming for best performance then have at it. A.

Pat, I can explain why this is the case. The application of rudder not only tends to create yaw it also acts like a kind of aileron causing a rolling effect. With right rudder applied it tends to roll the plane to the left. We all know that on a rudder steered plane you need a fair amount of dihedral to induce a turn because the rudder yaws the plane then the forward going wing presents more air resistance which rolls it into the turn. There is a point at which if just the right amount of dihedral is applied the adverse roll effect of the rudder is cancelled out by turning effect. This why pattern ship designers always strive to get this just right to create the most neutral flying characteristics. Andy.

  10. The glue I bought from the local pound shop for sticking down edges of wall paper turned out to be PVA which I ended up using to cover foam wings cores with lining paper. I wouldn't use standard PVA as a heat sensitive adhesive as I don't think it's very effective. Instead I have used Deluxe Materials CoverGrip which is made for the job. A.

  15. If there are to be delivery drones I'm sure too many of them will go missing in action to make it worth it, let's hope so. It might turn out like the community bike hire system tried in many cities where there were too many ne'er-do-wells. A.

How do you vary the input voltage to suit differences in line length? Robin, I think you misunderstand, this IS the controller, you need a DC power supply to feed it. The power is applied to the rails, positive and zero(-ve) and the motor is connected to where it says motor o/p. The speed is controlled by the potentiometer labelled VR1 on the schematic. No need to use any other controller as explained above The input voltage needs to be enough to overcome the resistance of the lines so using a variable power supply is the best solution. We have been using the same controllers since I made them 25 years ago and they are still going strong. They were built into small plastic project boxes with slider pots some with spring returns. We have had them on really long lines at the Model Engineering Exhibition and short lines at club meetings in a village hall. The power supply we use is one in yellow case with various output voltages, I'm not sure who made it. It looks like Harry Butler isn't selling RTP kit any longer so it may be necessary to get a laboratory style bench power supply for this application.
