  1. I've not posted anything since the end of May - other things have been getting in the way as is often the case these days, although progress has been made. I spent all day today in the shade out in the garden, so at last the fuselage is finished except for installing receiver, battery and switch. The fin, rudder and tailplane saw me use up my last piece of Solarfilm and I sprayed the fuselage using a rattle-can of white (from Aldi). I gave the whole fuselage a couple of coats of sanding sealer first, sanding down after both coats, and the paint then went on a treat, even though it was so hot outside that it was almost dry before it hot the wood! Fitting the 9gm servos was definitely 'fiddly' to say the least, as were the snakes. The rudder uses a snake inner with wire running through to connect to the horns. I'll take a few pics tomorrow and get them posted. I didn't finish tonight 'til 9-30 - still working on it out in the garden - by which time it was too dark to do any more. All seems OK so tomorrow will, with luck, see me make a start on the wings. I'm making it split wing, so that I can fit an optional power pod for a Cox .049 fitted between the wing halves. This will mean joining them with rod and tube which will also locate the power pod. The ribs are already cut out (in the garden a couple of weeks ago), the balsa was bought last week (60-mile round trip!), so watch this space. Edited By Geoff Peacock on 25/07/2018 21:54:20
  2. I just heard that we're no longer in the competition, so don't have to play France in the final. Oh dear! On that note, as the originator of this thread, I suggest we kick it into touch. Commiserations to all who actually enjoyed the wrestling, and to quote Bruce Forsyth - "Didn't we do well."
  3. Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 28/06/2018 14:08:49: Its OK, I have the solution. We will record it, I will not look on here for the result! That way I see the game, and I can fast forward the boring bits (sorry!). I'm learning that you have to be creative and resourceful to follow football,.... BEB Somewhat reminiscent of an old episode of 'The Likely Lads'. Hope you managed to avoid hearing the result… they didn't!
  4. Posted by kc on 22/06/2018 09:40:29: I note that this thread has had 2444 viewers compared to the 981 of the pro football thread------tells you something about the forum members I think.
  5. Posted by Geoff Sleath on 20/06/2018 23:44:22: I buy it from our local Poundland and it seems as effective as more expensive varieties. There are 2 sizes of bottles. The smaller ones I reserve for use as emergency repairs at the filed and keep an unstarted container in my toolbox and replace it after it's been opened. Geoff for Poundland cyano - works very well I find.
  6. Not my latest model, but it hasn't flown yet. Vic Smeed's Tumbletot was a free plan, for a Kalper 3.2cc engine. I belive it was Vic's last but one design. I scaled it UP for my Boddo Mills 0.5 R/C engine. Maiden is due shortly.

I suspect it has, but I can't be bothered to search for it in case I miss something on t'Telly!!!!! No! Please no! We had one just a couple of months back, it droned on,....and on,....and on,.... Spare us that BEB I can be bribed BEB. What's it worth?

  9. Posted by Peter Miller on 19/06/2018 08:19:12: Hi Geoff. No, I don't mind in the least. Enjoy. I will PM you shortly. the 22" span version flew like a dream. Info duly received with thanks. Looks a little complex - could be quite a challenge! Thinking cap and kettle now on.
  10. Posted by Peter Miller on 18/06/2018 21:03:00: Now that sounds reasonable. Should be a nice model. Maybe, once I have done the drawings I will send you PDF files so you can play with that size. How about that Thanks for the photo Peter. It looks even 'odder' (is that a word?) in the flesh, but definitely worth following up. Totally bored with watching the 'wrestling match' between England & Tunisia, I switched it off, fired up the Mac and started drawing, after first downloading your plan and opening it up in Illustrator. It came out at 10" span, so I'll trace that, then scale it later to suit the Boddo diesel. After that I can alter the wood sizes to suit. Hope you don't object to my 'playing about' with your work. I've done the wing plan and ribs already! I can send you a .pdf when I've got as far as I can, so you can compare it. A copy of yours would be most welcome when it's ready, just to see where I've (no doubt) gone wrong. No rush for this, as I've currently got several other plans on the go. I find it pays to keep at least a couple of jobs on at any one time - I ike to have a break from just one job. Thanks again for your offer.
  11. Sorry Peter, the 'spinner' on the front and the likeness to Ringtail got me going down the track of an an all-out power machine. Revised thinking is now to scale it down and use my Boddo-Mills 0.5cc diesel. Any further thoughts would be welcome.
  12. Posted by Devcon1 on 17/06/2018 21:35:11: It's only once every four years, free to watch and it is the national game so what's not to like. Germany losing, Brazil drawing, Iceland first ever World Cup point and the smallest nation ever to take part. Could this be our year ? Yes, if you include wrestling, as in tonight's game. A disgusting performance from Tunisia - I turned it off just after half-time, probably the only game I would be watching this time. I couldn't put up with it any longer, as I thought the clue was in the name, i.e.FOOTball. Edited By Geoff Peacock on 18/06/2018 20:56:37
  13. Isn't an .09 a bit small for 72" wingspan Peter? That size is way too big for my shed - I was thinking of something around 48" max. - about as big as I can handle (unfortunately) these days after moving house not too long ago and inheriting a very small shed! As for the print shop suggestion - I would prefer to redraw the plan in vector format and scale it. That way I can resize the wood to be correct. Drawing and illustration is what I did for a living for many years - I now seem to spend a lot of rainy days chained to the Applemac since retiring, purely for enjoyment. Sad, or what? Going back to my previous post - I'm surprised nobody seems interested in this plan. I think it's great, so assume that It can only be the electrickery thing - the only downside for me - hence my earlier comment. Diesel in the blood, but I can stretch to glow when needed .
  14. Posted by Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 18/06/2018 13:07:56: Flaps are always a bit of a headache to set up, they very rarely in my experience need full servo throw - often considerably less. The way I often do it is this: 1. Set the servos to centre with a servo checker and place the arm on tilted towards the flap by about 30 degrees. Set the flap linkage so that servo centre is flaps up - flush with the wing. 2. Set up your Tx with a very small servo movement - 10-20% 3. Disconnect the linkages - that way if the servo is going the wrong way it won't strain the hinges. 4. Try that out, make any servo reversals necessary. 5. Start a trial and error process increasing the percentage throw until you get the settings you want. Now you might be thinking "What a waste of servo movement and control resolution - he's only using half the throw" Well yes, that's true, but in my defence I would cite the following - firstly, you usually only need about half the throw on a flap anyway so it doesn't really matter where the half comes from; secondly, its easy to align; thirdly deploying flaps is not a high resolution activity - they are "off", "half-on" or "all-on" just three descrete positions, you don't need high resolution for that! Hope this helps a bit BEB Edited By Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator on 18/06/2018 13:09:05 Perhaps this might help: my DH Beaver uses 15 deg down for take-off and 45 deg down for landing - set up just as the full size aircraft. I achieved the 'full flap down' (45 deg) by setting the servo and flap horns by trial and error. I also use a servo slow in the circuit - very realistic. High wing models are apparently the ones which most need a little down elevator mixing in, although mine has none (possibly helped by the servo slow), but as BEB and Dennis say, they're all different, so you'll most likely have to 'suck it and see". Hope this helps.
  15. A Peter Miller post, on here for two days and no replies - that must be a record. Everybody watching the world cup? Love the design Peter - but electric? Something a little smaller for diesel/glow and I'd be on the case. The fuselage is very reminiscent of Ringtail, and Australian C/L design from the late 50s/early 60s, which had twin booms. Possibly an r/c conversion - I'm considering it at the moment.
  16. On plugging the servo into the flap channel on my Sanwa rx, the servo immediately goes to full extent of travel in one direct, giving full travel the other way. Yours might do this. You may have to reverse travel direction at the tx.
  17. Anybody else sick of the world cup already? It's live on TV, plus they're following up with 'highlights' (surely a misnomer if ever there was one!), it's on the news (every channel) and it's also on the radio. To make things worse… it's •••••• raining for the first time in weeks (expletives deleted by me, before the Mods get to it). However… Last night's Spain v. Portugal match was a bit good. Am I getting sucked in? Should I go fishing?
  18. Shed owners beware! A good friend of mine, who works as a crime scene investigation officer, reliably informs me that taking the roof off a shed is by far the most common form of gaining entry. It only needs 2 men, 1 sledgehammer and a couple of well place (upward) blows and they're in.
