Thank you for all your input and support.

I started building and flying back in the 60's single chanel click clunk haha , I've had a 25 year break from the hobby and getting older my confidence is a bit lacking after the break. That's why I started again with an old free flight design, very forgiving.

When I said upright I was speaking figuratively

Yep more bands will be used , just 2 for c/g checking
-
Thank you, no its not a 60 its the 48" diamond demon. Original it was a free flight design so in built stability, I built and flew one 25 years ago, just needed to confirm things , lacking confidence

Test glide off until tomorrow so just checking radio gear. I have a Spectrum DXS transmitter and receiver,I've managed to bind them together, now can I ask numpy question re elevator, when I pull the stick down/backwards should the elevator move to the upright position thus making the model climb, when the stick is pushed forward/up the elevator will be in the down position thus model dives. At the moment the control is the opposite so will I need to revese it. Sorry in advance for my numptyness

Still raining here so test glide off until tomorrow 🙄. Hopefully will not need to put lead up front. I remember a mate of my Dad's, who built a Aeronca Sedan free fight, it crashed, there was about 1/2lb of church roof lead glued under the tail 😆

The model is now completed, just checked the C/G and it balances level, on the plan it says " A more rearwards position improves the glide. Previous models I've usually had a slightly nose down. I don't really want to add any weight to it, would it be ok as it is?. Was going to have a test glide this morning in the field next to me , guess what it's raining.

Thank you Engine Doctor, appreciate your knowledge

Just purchased a new Master Airscrew 7x4 prop, to replace my old original, which I used on my first Diamond Demon 48" wingspan 25 years ago, it powdered it fine. I will be using the new one on The Answer a 44" wingspan, when ordering the prop I was questioned about it being too small, suggesting a 8x4. I've gone with the 7x4. Any thoughts

Croeso, Welcome aboard from mid Wales

The 2 Mills engine's in my photo show my original one my dad bought me in the late 60s the other one I purchased in 1992 a India replica, after a couple of fights and a bit of a crash landing the prop shaft got bent, the shaft was slightly smaller in diameter than the original and possible not as good quality metal, monkey metal springs to mind haha, fortunately my dad turned me a new shaft for it , overhauling the complete engine even though it was new. I will be using the original engine in my next build.

Hi JD8 may I enquire what size prop your using please. Jonathan

I'm a stonemason, so the charger and battery was on a piece of best quality Welsh slate, only the best haha 😄

Thank you very much Shaun and John, I really appreciate your advice and have taken it on board, I put them on charge this morning in my workshop as I worked, never left them until charge finished.

Yep I used Model Technics After Run Oil, they all turn over nicely, still going to give them a clean before starting

On the home straight with my latest build diamond demon, first time electric. Sorting out my old engines for my next build, The Answer by cumbrian models. Last used the 25 years ago, I put them away cleaned and oiled, just ordered some fuel, quite a bit more expensive than last time haha. Looking forward to starting them up. Will probably use the original Mills .75 , it was a sweet little engine I remember.

On the home straight, my first build in 25 years, Diamond Demon. -
Thank you so very much Philip, really appreciated. New to these batteries, on the home straight with my first build in 25 years, and have gone electric. Best regards Jonathan

Please can I ask, should lipo batteries be completely discharged before recharging, or is it ok to top up charge them when they say something like 75 %. Thanks Jonathan

I've got canopy glue clear drying. The reason I asked before or after covering , not sure if the oratex covering I will be using will stick to the windscreen edge overlapping about 3mm. Or after glueing on top of the oratex. I have sprayed the cabin balsa with matt paint and not sure whether the oratex will stick to the paint, does it have to be untreated balsa.
-
Thank you, its only 3/16 sq balsa so glueing,

What's the general consensus regarding windscreen fitting, should it be glued on before covering or after.

Thanks for the replies really appreciated. My flying style has always been nice and slow pottering around the sky, my reaction time even when I was young has been slow 😄 The plane I'm building now ben buckle diamond demon I built and flew back in 1993, nice and gentle flying with the mills .75 engine about 3 minutes flight time with the standard tank just enough for me. I've purchased a spare battery so will hopefully be able to have a couple of flights per session.

Evening Lipo Man, thank you for the heads up on the battery capacity checker , got one , brilliant, once I start flying I will use it most definitely.
