  1. What a find in AJ Blades! I have recently received a set of 61mm blades, great advice given before purchase, fast delivery, extremely well packed, and fantastic blades received.
  2. I have a 26cc petrol engine looking for an airframe (my first 'big model'). Has anyone installed a petrol engine in the Simon Delaney Sportstar (74" wingspan) design (built from a plan, not a kit)? it was origionally designed for a 120 four stroke, and I have the plan, so am tempted, but would be interested if anyone has gone petrol with the plane.
  3. Thinking of you Boddo, get well soon.   Best wishes   Bertie
  4. 1.  Mode 1   2. East Midlands (Derbyshire)   3. East Midlands (Derbyshire)   4. My club flies mode 1, so that is how my instructor taught me.
  5. Many thanks for the replies.  The engine is now installed in a model and I have run it up okay. Still very little compression, but starts okay on my electric starter, and seems to run fine. The tappits are loose (I used an O.S. set of feeler gauges which came with my first generation O.S. 40 FS years ago). So I will use the engine and see what happens!   Happy flying, and thanks once again   Bertie
  6. I have a new to me but used SC30FS in very tidy condition. I am however puzzled by its lack of compression, or low compression. I have tried to hand start it, but no luck. Tickle it with an electric starter and she is away, as sweet as a nut. Good throttling, good top end (10500rpm on a 10 x 4) and sweet idle. I may be worrying unecessarily, but the engine just doesn't feel right with no, or very low compression! Any one out there with a similar experience?
  7. Might as well have a go....................you never know your luck!!
  8. No luck so far with the Modelflying prize draws, so I had better have another go. Good luck to all
  9. I don't suppose I will win, so good luck to all! Who ever wins enjoy your prize. GOOD LUCK from Bertie
  10. I've been flying my old Mk1 Maggie for the last 20 + years, goes nice with a Laser 50, so a modern 52 4 stroke will be ideal. As Adam says, there are no traps with a Maggie, they are just brilliant, and can handle flat calm to quite windy/gusty conditions. Also fly from steady to quite aerobatic if you wish. A super choice as a move from ARTF, great to hear you want a go at building, and good luck with the project, you won't be dissapointed. I will never be without one, If I eventually break mine, ( I dont think it will fail through old age) a new one will be constructed asap.
  11. Cured the flutter in the end by building a servo box into each wing, and fitting a standard servo on each aileron, tried all sorts prior to this with no luck. The model is now a very nice flier, but extremely fast with an ASP46 on the front. You also get unlimited vertical performance with this powerplant. A good 40, such as an ASP or SC would be more than enough power, and going a bit slower might have prevented the flutter. I was finding that most manouvers, other than long vertical rolling climbs could be undertaken on about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, hence the 40 suggestion. I can only assume the aileron torque rods were the problem, perhaps flexing to allow the right aileron to bounce. Still, just had 4 x 12 minute flights tonight, and all was okay. Pity I had to go through so much to get it right, but I wasn't going to let it beat me!
  12. Many thanks for your suggestion. That's the puzzle, the ailerons are built up, and stiff, there is virtually no gap between wing TE and aileron, and there is no slop in the linkages,  it also has a new aileron servo (Hitec). There seems to be no logical reason for the flutter. If I slow the model down it goes, open up and it returns. The only suggestion from a couple of 'experts' at my club is to move the linkages on the aileron servo into the inside position on the arms. In my 30 years RC flying, this is the first time I have experienced aileron flutter.
  13. Just flown my new Ripmax Xcalim today. It suffers with Aileron flutter at speed. All looks okay, no slop etc. so a puzzle why I get flutter.  Anyone else experienced this? I have heard that on early kits the tail was prone to flutter, but that seems okay (when viewed on a low high speed pass).
