  1. as title suggests, anyone know what this delta is and who the designer is. I think it's 40 sized.
  2. from me. Had one with an RCGF 15cc in which was more than enough. Balanced perfectly and flew fantastic, very stable and almost pattern like. Firewall to prop driver is quite small, only about 130mm, so your 20cc might not fit without severe surgery.
  3. This? Should build to withstand club fields **LINK**
  4. There not cool about this in the US, hence impending legislation by the FAA that the AMA is serious worried with significantly curb RC flying. I have made comments on their YouTube site that they might want to consider AMA membership and to not fly in a street with people around, but expect it will get ignored. I just hope that these quads rapidly become boring and the next best thing comes along, before those people who have no understanding of the CAA rules, or what the BMFA is cause too much damage for us to pick up the pieces later.
  5. Berlin Bde definatley gone. 7 Bde now almost gone, so Fally and Hohne closed. Paderborn, Sennelager will soon be the last of BAOR/BFG until they close in a few years. Even Herford now almost closed and 1Div now in York.
  6. I'm not sure I'd consider the T8j a beginner set, maybe the T6j, but I do agree with your point at £140 the new Taranis can't really be compared, it's streets ahead.
  7. That should read Hohne not Horne, getting qu te annoyed with this iPad auto correct function.
  8. I'm out of Germany now, but my guess would be Sennelager, since Horne is about to close
  9. I just hope they don't go the way of English heritage, who have banned flying from a few sites near me on the Marlborough downs.
  10. Probably also add that the term entry level is not that useful either. The term suggests a beginners set, so most want to quickly make the psychological step forward onto a 'better' set, even if they don't need it, due to the psychological conditioning of terms like that. Perhaps Futaba, need to take a long hard look at where their market is, and not try to pander to all. Perhaps, on the contrary, the Beauty of an entry level set, is manufacturers known you will want to move on and they hope they have you locked to their brand, through loyalty or economics of changing receivers ( if on a different protocol)
  11. Very sad. Looking athe the videos posted, it could have been a lot worse. The show line separation looks a bit too close, especially with people in the water, even if they had a fairly high low altitude limit to the display box. Perhaps the show boss controlling the display box, might be interviewed over this?
  12. Raised in the why Futaba are failing ( or words to that effect ) post. What percentage of channels on their TX are people actually commonly using. So for example, have a 14 channel sets, but the majority of aircraft only flown on 7 channels -50% Edited By Reno Racer on 03/06/2015 14:55:51
  13. It would be an interesting survey to see how many channels we actually use as a percentage of those available of our radio sets. I would hazard a guess that most don't really use more than 6-8, but I bet lots have 12+ channel radios. If this assumption is correct, then the entry level set stands no chance anyway, even if that actually all we need. In flying jets, EDF, petrol and normal IC, I find my Futaba T8J more than sufficient, although I do actually then use all my channels. Edited By Reno Racer on 03/06/2015 14:53:38
  14. Happens all the time. The challenger 2 tank was on a range road, with is designated military traffic only. German and Brit civilians use the roads illegally as a shortcut, but stopping a 70 tank when there a civilian car on the wrong side of the road, it shouldn't be there,  and the tank is out of gauge for civilian  roads, meaning it takes up most of the road - not exactly in Highway Code stopping distances.  Edited By Reno Racer on 03/06/2015 14:48:02 Edited By Reno Racer on 03/06/2015 14:48:34
  15. It is a shame. I guess the opening of the UK Hobbyking warehouse put an end to stores that are really just selling the same stuff Hobbyking sells ( or even reselling there stuff in the case of a few EBay shops).
  16. Beyond reliability of their sets and protocol used, after scrambling around at the bottom of the barrel, one thing IMHO Futaba do have in their favour is that their sets do look nice. A bit left field I know, but some of theses flash😉 type sets reviewed in the recent mag might have all the new features, but they do look cheap and plasticy, a bit like some of the low end Spectrum stuff. At least the Futaba sets always seem to look nice aesthetically. Obviously, without a recognisable business marketing plan that attracts buyer, looking good gets you nowhere. Come on Futaba, please get a grip.
  17. Perhaps, their problem resides with Hobbico- the organisation is far too broad and its seemingly letting them down. Their decision to discontinue some really good Great Planes models, such as the Revolver or military Steerman is perhaps an example of this. Horizon hobby, by contrast at least cross pollinate their products through there RTF and BNF across Hangar 9, Parkzone, Eflite and Spectrum.
  18. I haven't yet found the need for telemetry and all the other gismos, so I'm more than happy with my T8J S-FHSS Futaba set, it gives me the confidnece and reliability that I didn't get with my old Spectrum DX7, but that personal choice. I suspect Futaba will retain its share of the market and slowly transistion it's followers to FHSS protocol from FASST. Most of my models fly on 6 or 8 channel Rx, which are under £35. What I find interesting is the cyclic shifts from brand to brand, which seems to be driven by technology advancement, whichever brand starts with telemetry, open source or whatever te next thing, ends up getting a swing across from other brands. Whilst living in the US, I saw a different shift of user, those who originally had spectrum or Futaba sets. Their shift was not to Taranis or similar, but to Airtronics (Sanwa). Most I asked, declared their shift Was driven by a desire for greater reliability/confidnece )of early spectrum users) or more programming and less complexity ( for old Futaba users) . By the time I left, I was one of the few still flying Futaba, the remainder were now flying Airtronics, helped by there relatively cheap price of both TX and Rx from US suppliers. 19. Construction article for the notforsale is here, looks quite similar **LINK** I guess this is the 40 sized one you based yoir design on, so there is scope to up size for those that want a 40-50 sized version Edited By Reno Racer on 20/05/2015 19:32:14
  20. Nice , It looks very much like the notforsale design from a few decades ago, link here**LINK**
  21. Well said Andrew, I do feel that the Spektrum deny party fail to see any issue than pilot error, which interestingly would suggest that HH would not expend time and effort repairing boards, if they didn't acknolwedge some degree of liability and see a reason to shift from DSM2 to DSMX. In any case, not not accept any pilot error for my loss 4 years ago. As a CEng and full size pilot I'd do take Maint and system checks seriously enough to avoid silly mistakes. Perhaps DSM2 was more suspect able to interference than other systems? Any one who wishes to look into my albums will see I'm no rookie, nor do I fly small foamies. If pilot error / incorrect Rx placement, flat batteries etc was the fault, then the chances of probability, based on number of flights and different models since, would suggest I should have suffered another loss on Futaba, yet I've had nothing but solid connections since. You've probably guessed, I do take umbridge at suggestions of pilot error, whilst not acknowledging that there may have been an issue witth he Protocol/ TX. I won't bash Spektrum, but from my thousands of flights and about a hundred models, the loss of control issues I had were when I flew Spektrum; I simply lost confidence. I sense the original posters may be in the same frame of mind. PS, people do use this forum from time to time to ask advice and pop in and out as necessary. I do feel it has become a chat room for the 20 or so regular forum posters and is starting to feel unwelcoming to others Edited By Reno Racer on 14/05/2015 07:53:53 Edited By Reno Racer on 14/05/2015 07:54:52
  22. I had the same issue when flying/living in the States. I also until this point believed it was pilot error. That was until I lost my beloved Eflite Leader 480. Power to the Rx was from the ESC and a almost full (by that point) 30c 2200mah quality lipo. The plane had been range checked and all was fine, reciever was mounted correctly and in the location suggested in the manual. I had just taken off, done a few aerobatic turns then whilst flying past me, about 10m in front of me and at about a height of 50ft, it just went into a knife edge, then inverted and into the ground. On inspection, all servos were fine and the lipo was still at 4.1 V/cell. The reciever was flashing, which would suggest a brown out, but I know when setting up the servos were not binding and not pulling any excessive current. I also know that the lipo was heathy, so I'm still at a loss to explain how it happened. Rightly or wrongly, I decided that I'd had enough of Spektrum and their DSM2 protocol, so switched to Futaba SFHSS and have not looked back, or had any RX issues since and that was 4 years ago.
  23. Posted by Mike Etheridge 1 on 06/10/2014 22:30:24: Went to stay at my older brother's house last week at Broughton Gifford in Wiltshire. A number of Hercules transport planes flew over as usual, and at very low level two hot air balloons came over the roof top plus the next morning a Paramotor. As I mentioned a few months back there is a red Hawker Hunter gate guardian not far away off the A 350. I took a few photographs of the plane and discovered it appeared to be owned by a car repair business. There is also a cafe on the site with a sign that reads 'No beer and lousy food' Edited By Mike Etheridge 1 on 06/10/2014 22:39:33 Mike, I'd love to know where that Hunter is, is it near Melksham somewhere?
