  1. +1 on the Sky 120. Great (literally) kit, very good to put together, and flies well. Will do aerobatics as well! Obviously not 3D ones
  2. So if my maths is up to scratch, there are now two flying Mosquitos, and one on the way? Always thought, once you have the jigs to build one Mossie, more are bound to follow. Sweet!
  3. Another vote for coffee stirrers plus those little waxy paper cups from the likes of golden arches. Ideal for small amounts of epoxy, and can be used again, once the first batch of epoxy has gone off. (not that I'm tight or anything!) I have also used a bit of garden hose to increase the reach of a small screwdriver/hex spinner.
  4. Managed to get an hour in at our flying site (make as much noise as I want) . Ran two tanks through it at three turns on the mixture screw and she was a sweet as a nut. Towards the very end of the second tank, I tuned the mixture and then let it empty the tank. Mixture was at 1 7/8 turns. Still had oil dripping from breather, but I'll live with it. I'll leave the pipe on as well. I read on a Saito related site folks having a few inches of pipe, so my 1.5" does not sound too excessive. Thanks for all your thoughts, perhaps now I can finally get this kit into the air.
  5. Thanks guys, this is my first 4 stroke, and my startling ignorance is starting to show itself @js1 No I didn't, would it have been better if I did. Is this something 4st, as opposed to 2st, benefit from? @cb1 I will take another read through the article. We have guests this weekend, so no time for engine running, but I will put a couple of tanks through it, as and when, and report back. Thanks for all suggestions Richard
  6. @BC Trouble is, it's a bit more than a dribble. If I put my finger over the nipple and turn the prop, pressure builds up. Maybe a broken or stuck ring? I'm tending to convince myself that I need to dismantle the engine. Gloom.       Edited By Richard V-D on 19/06/2014 21:28:45
  7. Background. Bought this engine some time ago, as in early last year. Ran a couple of tanks of fuel through it, and all was fine. Circumstances then happened and it was not until a couple of days ago it was time to fire up the model, a Flair Cub. Problem. Engine just would not start in the model. put it on test rig, still no start till I turned mixture crew out. Started then and ran ok, but bit of a dribble from breather nipple. Replaced test rig fuel setup with Cub fuel tank. Engine started and ran ok but with lots of stuff coming from breather nipple. Stopped engine! Question Have I destroyed my engine? Or blown a seal? Or damaged a bearing through non-use, not running in properly? Is it repairable? Thoughts please Richard
  8. Glued and screwed, a happy combination. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  9. Sounds a good idea painting it black, I'll investigate it. The tape was electrical insulating tape. Trouble was, whilst it was ok round all the curves at first, the tight curve at the rear of the side windows proved too much and it started to curl over. Judicious slits has cured that, although it's not the prettiest job in creation.
  10. Thanks for the ideas, used stretchy tape in black to match other bits of the a/c. Fingers crossed it holds when she starts flying (whenever that will be!)
  11. Slowly getting on with my Cub build, and have come up against "glazing"! Fixing the side windows was fine, I used canopy glue, but I was stumped about the front bit. Searching the forums came up with using a heat gun, so that was better, at least it was shaped a bit and would be easier to glue. Trouble is, how do you stick the front bottom edge of the actetate as shown in the picture? Canopy glue? Epoxy? Trim a bit of covering first? Thoughts please. Richard
  12. Which is what Ernie? My Solartex work could do with being a bit more 'regular'. If the tex changes colour slightly, is that too hot?
  13. That's a crying shame Stevo. Looked a lovely model. What caused the accident? Was it something on the kit that broke? I've just re-started my Flair Cub after it has lain dormant all summer. I've got a Saito 56 as well, but vertically mounted. Lovely motor. Are you re-building yours? Richard
  14. That looks like it, although just had a small trawl ont' net, and it has several drawbacks. No pressure regulator and no water trap for starters. Maybe not such good value after all.
  15. Was in Lidl yesterday and saw a compressor and airbrush combo. Can't remember how much it was, but should be reasonable being Lidl. Any good? Richard
  16. I saw their products at Cosford, I to was impressed. They make them on a 3D printer, so you could have yourself in the office if you wanted! Try perfect-pilots.co.uk as well. Richard
  17. Then there is always "fuel on the ground may be expensive, but in the air, it's priceless!" Works for models too
  18. Hi Neil Put 100mls into 3 litres of petrol.
  19. Must admit I didn't think about heat. I thought it was more a vibration thing.
  20. Just checking on the rx fitment in the 4st powered, Flair Cub I'm building and at the moment it is velcro'd to a piece of ply glued to the frame. On my trainer, I have it wrapped in foam and all cozy. My question is, do I really need to wrap it in foam or can I leave it velcro'd rather conveniently to the fuz? Do you wrap yours? Cheers Richard
  21. The long, bendy extension thing, and Christmas present drill stand.
